The New Orleans Saints joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1967 and have remained in New Orleans for their entire existence. However, the Saints struggled mightily in their early days, as they did not have a winning season in their first 20 seasons. Their first winning record and playoff appearance did not come until 1987, and their first playoff win didn’t come until 2000.
The team experienced more success at the turn of the century and won their lone Super Bowl in 2009 (XLIV) over the Indianapolis Colts. Head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees were the pair that helped lead some of the most successful seasons in franchise history.
The Saints are in the NFC South with the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
