Tom Hanks has been in many movies through his career as an actor, some of which are "Forrest Gump," "Saving Private Ryan," "Big" and "Cast Away." In 2022, he starred in the "Elvis" movie with Austin Butler who played the King of Rock and Roll.

Hanks was born on July 9, 1956, in Concord, California to parents Janet Marylyn and Amos Hanks. His very first role was in the horror film, "He Knows You’re Alone" in 1980. Shortly after, he played the lead in the 1983 movie "Splash."

In the following years, Hanks was in many movies like “The Man with One Red Shoe,” “The Money Pit,” “Nothing in Common” and “Dragnet.” In 1988, Hanks played Josh Baskin in the movie “Big,” where he got his first academy award nomination for best actor. Hanks was then in “Turner & Hooch” and the coach of a professional female baseball league in “A League of Their Own.”

In 1993, Hanks won an Academy Award for best actor for the movie “Philadelphia” and then won the award again the following year for “Forest Gump,” and is also the second actor ever to do so. The movie made over $600 million at the worldwide box office and is a movie that Hanks is widely known for today.

Hanks has also done some animated voice acting. In 1995, he voiced Woody for the first time in "Toy Story" and continued to do so for the following three movies. That same year, he was also in “Apollo 13.”

In 1998, Hanks was in “Saving Private Ryan” and then played a FedEx executive who got trapped on a deserted island in the 2000 movie “Cast Away.”

Some other movies Hanks has been in over the years are “Catch Me If You Can,” “The Terminal,” “The Polar Express” (where he plays multiple roles including the conductor and Santa Claus), “The Da Vinci Code,” “Angels & Demons,” “Ithaca,” “Sully,” “Inferno,” “The Circle,” “The Post” and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”

Some of Hanks more recent films are “Greyhound,” “News of the World,” “Finch” and the 2022 movie “Elvis” where Hanks plays Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker. He is also plays Geppetto in the upcoming “Pinocchio” movie.

Hanks is married to actress Rita Wilson and has been since 1988. The two have two children together, Chet and Truman. Hanks also has two children with his ex-wife, Samantha Lewes, Elizabeth and Colin.
