This week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reached a milestone in western North Carolina, removing 5 million cubic yards of debris. For perspective, that鈥檚 enough to fill the Panther鈥檚 Stadium four times, or cover Central Park with 5 feet of debris. Engineers tell FOX,聽 Helene鈥檚 effect on the region caused challenges because of tough terrain and total breadth of the damage. 鈥淚t鈥檚 this avalanche of soil and trees and rocks and homes, ya know all of that came down鈥nd were deposited in the lakes,鈥 says one USACOE geotechnical engineer.
