Josh Allen scores game-winning touchdown as Bills topple Jaguars in wild-card round

Josh Allen has finally won a road playoff game, and it took his Superman traits to get it done for his Buffalo Bills.

The Bills took down the Jacksonville Jaguars, 27-24, behind Allen’s two rushing scores, including the game-winner on Sunday afternoon.

The fourth quarter was electric for both teams, as each scored two touchdowns in the 15 minutes that ensued. But it was Allen’s second rushing score of the game that mattered most in the end.

Allen and the Bills’ offense faced a 24-20 deficit after Trevor Lawrence found Travis Etienne Jr. for a 14-yard touchdown catch, where he broke one tackle and flew into the end zone. The Duval County crowd went nuts, but the clock was still in Buffalo’s favor.

After all, we’ve seen Allen have some good playoff heroics in the past. But he was 0-4 in road playoff games for his career coming into this contest, and the pressure was certainly on as Jacksonville’s defense was making it hard for him all game.

Allen’s first clutch moment of the drive came when he threw the ball 36 yards off his back foot to Brandin Cooks to flip the field into Jaguars territory. Cooks stepped up with 58 yards on three receptions, including this key one down the stretch.

Then, the Bills found themselves with a fourth-and-inches play, the game on the line from Jacksonville’s 11-yard line. It wasn’t hard to tell Buffalo was going to run their version of the tush push with Allen, but no one expected what happened next.

Not only did Allen get the push he needed for the first down, but his teammates continued to thrust him forward for 10 yards, almost finding the end zone.

On the very next play, after officials reversed their initial ruling of a touchdown, the Bills went back to the well as Allen was pushed into the end zone without much of a Jaguars threat. Jacksonville seemed to want them to score with just over a minute left to play and down three points.

Given kicker Cam Little’s leg — he reset the NFL’s longest made field goal record earlier this season — Lawrence didn’t need to go too far to allow a chance to send the game to overtime.

But on the very first play of the drive, a pass intended to Jakobi Meyers was tipped by Tre’Davious White, who had a tremendous game, and intercepted by safety Cole Bishop. Bishop smartly fell to the turf and the game was over with the Jaguars not possessing any timeouts.

The Bills will now wait to see who their next opponent will be in the divisional round.

In the box score, Allen was 28-of-35 for 273 yards with a touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid in the fourth quarter. He also had 33 rush yards on 11 carries, while James Cook had trouble all day against the league’s top rushing defense, with only 46 yards on 15 touches in the backfield.

Khalil Shakir stepped up for Buffalo as well, hauling in all 12 of his targets for 82 yards.

For Jacksonville, Lawrence had three touchdown passes on his 30 attempts, but also two interceptions, the other by Shaq Thompson in the first half. He threw for 207 yards with 31 rushing yards on six attempts to close out his season.

The rush attack was good for the Jaguars, who saw Etienne pick up 67 and Bhayshul Tuten adding 51 on only four carries.

In the pass game, Parker Washington closed his season with yet another solid performance, hauling in seven catches for 107 yards to lead the game.

Super Bowl champ criticizes Jaguars' decision-making in crucial spot vs Bills

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a chance to go up seven points in the second quarter against the Buffalo Bills in their AFC wild-card round matchup on Sunday.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence took a snap on 4th-and-2 and ran to his left. He tried to reach for the marker and officials initially ruled that he got enough for a first down. But the Bills challenged the spot of the ball and a replay showed that Lawrence was down well short.

Jacksonville ended the drive with zero points. The Bills scored on their following drive to take a 10-7 lead.

Super Bowl champion T.J. Ward took issue with the play-call on fourth down instead of trying to take the points.

"I’m so sick of these coaches going for it on 4th down," Ward wrote on X. "Take the points. The points are more than just points.

"They keep your momentum going! And when you fail the attempt on 4th down, you give the other team a tremendous momentum boost. Football is not rocket science."

Jacksonville rushed down the field from its own 1-yard line and was able to get a field-goal attempt from 54 yards out before halftime. Cam Little missed the kick just a bit to his left.

Lawrence was 9-of-15 for 88 yards and a touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr. He had 29 rushing yards on three carries.

Titans, Jaguars players fight after big hit on Trevor Lawrence

Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars players got into a heated skirmish at the end of the first half during their Week 13 matchup.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was running toward the sideline to try to make a last-ditch throw before halftime. He threw the ball away as he was being brought down. At the end of the play, Lawrence was tagged by Titans defensive end Arden Key.

Jaguars offensive tackle Anton Harrison took exception to Key’s hit and the two immediately locked horns. Key appeared to force Harrison’s helmet off as the lineman tried to push him away. Officials and players from both teams joined in to break up the fracas.

Key was hit with two penalties after the skirmish was over. He was called for roughing the passer on the Lawrence hit and a personal foul for his interaction with Harrison. The penalties moved the Jaguars up the field and Jacksonville received an untimed down.

MATTHEW STAFFORD SETS NFL RECORD WITH TOUCHDOWN PASS ON FIRST DRIVE VS PANTHERS

Jaguars kicker Cam Little came in and nailed a 45-yard field goal. Jacksonville had an 18-3 lead going into the locker room.

Jacksonville came into the game in search of a win to keep pressure on the Indianapolis Colts' slim lead in the AFC South. The Titans were looking to salvage a season that had been completely thrown into disarray with the firing of head coach Brian Callahan.

Texans score 26 fourth-quarter points to complete dramatic comeback victory over Jaguars

A thrilling AFC South matchup between the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars ended with a 26-point fourth quarter for Houston, leading to a crucial come-from-behind victory at home.

The 36-29 finish in favor of the Texans gave them a 4-5 record on the season, while the Jaguars fell to 5-4.

It was all Jaguars for the first three quarters, as Trevor Lawrence and company took a 29-10 lead into the fourth. But Davis Mills, starting in place of the injured C.J. Stroud, never backed down and came through in the clutch over the final 15 minutes.

Mills and the Texans’ offense scored a touchdown on all three of their fourth-quarter drives, including the veteran quarterback capping a 14-play, 93-yard drive with a 14-yard run to complete the comeback and give Houston a 30-29 lead — its first of the game.

Mills found rookie receiver Jayden Higgins from 12 yards out for his first fourth-quarter score, and after a three-and-out by Jacksonville, he connected with tight end Dalton Schultz to get the NRG Stadium crowd roaring as Houston cut the deficit to five with plenty of time left on the clock.

Lawrence and the Jaguars still had a chance for a miracle if they could reach field goal range for Cam Little, who rewrote the NFL record books in Week 9 with his 68-yard field goal — the longest in league history.

Lawrence made things interesting when he scrambled for 21 yards to reach midfield with 21 seconds to play. Then, Parker Washington, who had scored on both offense and a punt return earlier in the game, caught a 12-yard pass to move into Houston territory. However, an illegal use of hands penalty wiped out the play and spoiled the drive.

On the very next snap, Lawrence was strip-sacked by Will Anderson Jr., and veteran defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins recovered and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown as time expired to seal the victory.

Just a few weeks ago, the Denver Broncos shocked the New York Giants with a 33-point fourth quarter to win at home. While Houston’s rally wasn’t quite as explosive, the Texans pulled off what once seemed impossible.

Mills finished 27-of-45 for 292 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. On the other sideline, Lawrence went 13-for-23 for 158 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

For Houston, Nico Collins lived up to his No. 1 receiver status, hauling in seven of 15 targets for 136 yards to lead all players. For Jacksonville, Travis Etienne Jr. scored once while rushing for 58 yards on 16 carries, and Jakobi Meyers, making his Jaguars debut on his 29th birthday, caught three passes for 41 yards.

Jaguars' Travis Hunter notches first career touchdown vs Rams

Travis Hunter finally got into the end zone.

The rookie dual-threat Jacksonville Jaguars player caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence — the first of his young career. The score helped the Jaguars cut the deficit to 21 points, but it appeared the game was just a little bit too far out of reach.

Hunter has been splitting time on offense and defense for the most part after the Jaguars took him with the No. 2 overall pick of the draft. On Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, Hunter was primarily used on offense to try to add a spark to the Jaguars’ offense.

He was leading the team with six catches after the touchdown. He finished with eight catches for 101 yards as the Rams won the game, 35-7.

2025 NFL WEEK 7 BUZZ: JOSH JACOBS LISTED AS TRUE GAME-TIME DECISION

The Rams took advantage of that on offense in the early part of the game. Los Angeles led 28-0 in the fourth quarter, scoring one more touchdown before the Lawrence and Hunter connection led to a touchdown of their own.

Hunter came into the game against the Rams with 20 catches on 31 targets for 197 yards. He was playing 63% of his snaps on offense and 39% of his snaps on defense.

Matthew Stafford throws 5 TD passes as Rams crush Jaguars

Matthew Stafford put together an incredible performance in the Los Angeles Rams’ 35-7 domination of the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday.

Stafford became the first NFL quarterback to throw five touchdown passes in an international game. He threw three of those five touchdown passes to veteran wide receiver Davante Adams and two to rookies Terrance Ferguson and Konata Mumpfield.

Stafford was 21-of-33 with 182 passing yards. He didn’t throw an interception and wasn’t sacked. It’s the fifth time in his career he’s had five touchdown passes in a single regular-season game. The last time came on Nov. 26, 2015, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Adams had five catches for 35 yards.

Los Angeles jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime.

But the Jaguars' defense seemingly had Stafford’s number in the second half. After allowing 21 points in the first half, Jacksonville began to stymie the Rams. Los Angeles punted the ball four times, running only 13 plays.

RASHEE RICE TO PLAY 1ST GAME FOR CHIEFS IN MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER SUSPENSION

Jacksonville’s offense failed to turn any of the stops into points. Trevor Lawrence led a 10-play, 53-yard drive that ended with an incompletion on fourth down. He then had a seven-play, 64-yard drive that also ended in a turnover on downs.

It was those struggles that ultimately sank the Jaguars.

Lawrence found Travis Hunter for a 34-yard touchdown pass to get on the board with 9:06 left in the game. Stafford returned the favor and found Adams for the third time.

Lawrence was 23-of-48 with 296 passing yards and a touchdown pass. The Rams’ defense got to Lawrence seven times. Nate Landman and Byron Young each had 1.5 sacks.

Hunter led the Jaguars with eight catches for 101 yards.

NFL wraps up international games in London with Rams-Jaguars matchup in Week 7

The NFL returns to London for a third consecutive week.

The Los Angeles Rams take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET at Wembley Stadium. The game will air exclusively on the NFL Network, with Rich Eisen as the play-by-play announcer, Kurt Warner as the game analyst and Sara Walsh as the sideline reporter.

Last week, the Denver Broncos beat the New York Jets 13-11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The week prior, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Cleveland Browns 21-17 in the same venue.

For the Jaguars, they are no strangers to playing international games. Their matchup against the Rams will mark the franchise’s 14th game in the United Kingdom, more than that of any other franchise.

Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence describes 'sheer panic' as he recovered from stumble to score go-ahead TD

Trevor Lawrence led an incredible game-winning drive that saw him throw a dime to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. before he got stepped on, fell down and got back up to score the go-ahead touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.

Lawrence got the Jaguars down to the Chiefs’ 1-yard line. He lined up under center, took the snap, and as he dropped back, he had his foot stepped on. He, somehow, held onto the ball as he fell backward. Instead of throwing the ball away, Lawrence got back up, took a look around the field and found an opening.

He scampered to his left and shook up a Chiefs would-be tackler before he dove into the end zone for the touchdown. Jacksonville went up 31-28 and would win by the same score.

Lawrence described what was going through his head in that moment in an interview with ESPN’s Laura Rutledge immediately after the final whistle blew.

"Just panic. Sheer panic on the ground trying to … we didn’t have any timeouts. Got stepped on coming out and I was like, ‘I gotta get up.’ And I was gonna throw it out of bounds to stop the clock and there was really no one around me. So, went and made a play," Lawrence said.

Lawrence was 18-of-25 with 221 passing yards, a touchdown pass and an interception. He also lost a fumble at the goal line early in the game.

Coen called it a "goofy finish" but said it was a "tough moment" for Lawrence.

"He wasn't going to lose," he added.

Trevor Lawrence's stumbling touchdown caps last-minute drive to give Jaguars win over Chiefs

A game that looked like the Kansas City Chiefs would dominate early on turned into a nightmare before their eyes.

Trevor Lawrence led a strong comeback over the three-time AFC champions to give the Jacksonville Jaguars a 31-28 win.

It looked like it was all Kansas City early, as the Chiefs got out to a 14-0 lead with touchdowns by Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. However, Trevor Lawrence was able to find Parker Washington before the end of the first half, and Lawrence ran one in on Jacksonville’s first drive of the second to tie it up.

The Chiefs responded by marching all the way down the field, getting a huge third down catch by Hollywood Brown at the Jacksonville 3-yard line. However, on second down, Mahomes’ slant to JuJu Smith-Schuster was intercepted by Devin Lloyd at the 1 and returned 99 yards to the house, giving the Jaguars a 21-14 lead with 2:19 to go in the third quarter.

After forcing a Chiefs punt, the Jags had all the momentum – until Lawrence threw an interception inside his own 20-yard line. After a 14-yard catch by Kelce, Kareem Hunt punched one in from five yards out and tied the game at 21 with 12:20 left, but Jacksonville re-took the lead with a field goal a few minutes later. The Chiefs, though, went on a 12-play, 87-yard drive that ended in Hunt’s second rushing touchdown of the night to take a 28-24 lead with 1:45 to go.

Lawrence and the Jags had one final chance with two timeouts, and he got inside the red zone with 48 seconds left. A pass in the end zone was intercepted, but the Chiefs were called for defensive pass interference, giving Jacksonville the ball at the 1-yard line. On the next play, Lawrence, albeit with a trip to the grass, rushed in for a score and gave the Jaguars a 31-28 lead with 23 seconds to go.

The Chiefs had three timeouts, but with the ball inside their own 20, not even they could get anything going, and a Hail Mary fell well short to give the Jags the victory.

It was the first win for Jacksonville over Kansas City since 2009.

Lawrence threw for only 221 yards on 18-for-25 passing, but his two rushing touchdowns helped. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 10 carries for 54 yards. Mahomes went 29-for-41 for 318 yards.

Lawrence, who was also celebrating his 26th birthday, admitted there was "sheer panic" on his fall, as the Jags didn’t have any timeouts.

"Got stepped on coming out and I was like, ‘I gotta get up.’ And I was gonna throw it out of bounds to stop the clock and there was really no one around me. So went and made a play," Lawrence said.

Surely, they are not panicking at their 4-1 record, though. Meanwhile, Kansas City fell to 2-3.

The Jaguars host the Seattle Seahawks next week, while the Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions.

Jaguars players separate coach Liam Coen from 49ers assistant Robert Saleh after game

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh had some words for each other after their Week 4 matchup on Sunday.

The FOX broadcast caught Coen yelling at Saleh as he was being guided away from the San Francisco assistant after the Jaguars’ 26-21 victory.

It appeared the first-year head coach was getting the last word after Saleh’s comments about the team’s ability to recognize their opponents’ signals.

"They’ve got legally, a really advanced signal-stealing type system where they always find a way to put themselves in an advantageous situation," Saleh said earlier in the week. "They do a great job with it. They formation you to just try to find any nugget they can.

"So, we’ve got to be great with our signals and we’ve got to be great with our communication to combat some of the tells that we might give on the field. They’re almost elite in that regard."

Saleh said there was nothing "illegal" about the scheme.

Jacksonville forced San Francisco to turn the ball over four times. The team picked off Brock Purdy twice and caused Purdy to lose a fumble. Luke Farrell also lost a fumble.

The Jaguars scored 17 points in the second quarter and took a 17-6 lead into the showers.

Trevor Lawrence was 21-of-31 with 174 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Hunter Long. Travis Etienne Jr. had 124 rushing yards on 19 carries and scored on a 48-yard run.

Trevor Lawrence waves off head coach in tense sideline exchange during loss to Bengals

There may be some tension between head coach Liam Coen and star quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ locker room.

During the Jaguars’ 31-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Lawrence was seen waving off Coen after throwing an inaccurate pass on a crucial down late in the game.

The play came on second down with 4:14 left and Jacksonville holding a three-point lead.

Lawrence targeted wide receiver Dyami Brown on a short pass that would have likely set up a manageable third down.

But Lawrence’s throw sailed high. Brown got his hands on it but couldn’t secure the catch. Broadcast cameras then showed Coen appearing to yell at Lawrence. Coen repeatedly pounded his chest, seemingly signaling that Lawrence needed to hit his receivers lower.

Lawrence didn’t take kindly to the criticism, waving Coen off as he moved on to the next play. But after failing to convert on third down, the Jaguars went for it on fourth.

This time, Lawrence hit his top target, Brian Thomas Jr., square in the chest, but Thomas couldn’t hang on. The incompletion forced a turnover on downs, giving Cincinnati the opening it needed.

The Bengals responded with a 92-yard drive over 15 plays, capped by backup quarterback Jake Browning stretching across the goal line in the final seconds for the win. Browning was in after Joe Burrow left with a toe injury in the second quarter.

After the game, Coen downplayed the sideline exchange.

"It was just one throw. I was pissed. It is what it is. That’s emotion," he said, via Yahoo Sports. "It’s not personal, ever. That’s just me getting worked up.

"I was very pleased with [Lawrence’s] competitive nature. The way he stayed calm on the sidelines. He’s pretty even-keel, which is good for me. I need that."

Jacksonville Jaguars star quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his wife, Marissa, announced the birth of their first child, Shae Lynn Lawrence, in an Instagram post on Monday.

The love from both mom and dad showed as the Jaguars’ franchise signal-caller heads into the offseason with a new priority to worry about off the field.

The 25-year-old Lawrence is coming off a tumultuous 2024 campaign that was cut short by a season-ending AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.

In the 10 games he played this season, Lawrence saw more struggles than he did in the second half of the 2023 campaign. He went 2-8 in his 10 starts, throwing for 2,045 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Lawrence’s 60.6% completion rate was the lowest mark he’s had since his rookie season, when the Jaguars went 3-14.

Jacksonville finished 4-13 on the year as Mac Jones, Lawrence’s backup this season, took the reins the rest of the way. The Jaguars are set to pick fifth overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, where they’ll hope to add top talent to get back into the playoffs.

The Jaguars also fired Doug Pederson as head coach after three seasons, making way to a new leader for Lawrence and the rest of his teammates heading into next year.

The NFL announced on Wednesday that it was upholding the three-game suspension for Azeez Al-Shaair.

The Houston Texans linebacker hit Trevor Lawrence in the head and neck area, which landed him on injured reserve, likely ending his season.

Al-Shaair posted an apology to Lawrence on Monday, but he took a different route on Wednesday.

He posted on Instagram a photo collage with the cryptic caption, "IF YOU WANT ME TO BE YOUR VILLAIN, ILL BE YOUR VILLAIN! [middle finger emoji] SEE YOU SOON"

The four photos he posted were of himself entering the field, a pro-Palestinian cleat, a photo of Heath Ledger as The Joker and a quote reading "There is a beauty in being rejected, misunderstood, unseen, and unprotected by people. It teaches you to rely on Allah for everything."

Lawrence posted on X on Sunday night that he was "home and feeling better," but the IR stint will cause him to miss the next four games.

That would make Lawrence eligible to return for the final game of the season, but it is hard to imagine the Jaguars risking anything in a meaningless game. In fact, the only meaning for them could be the No. 1 overall pick of the draft.

Jon Runyan, NFL vice president of football operations, announced that Al-Shaair would be suspended without pay in a lengthy letter, calling the hit "unacceptable and a serious violation of the playing rules."

The hit resulted in a melee between the two teams, but Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said the Jags overreacted.

"Unfortunate that Trevor got hurt. Hope Trevor is OK, but it’s also, if we’re sliding, we have to get down. If we’re getting out of bounds, we get out of bounds and that rule is there to protect the quarterbacks, and we want our quarterbacks to be safe in the league, so we just have to be safe. If we’re sliding, make sure we’re keeping our heads down. And the entire thing is Azeez – he hits the guy, but their sideline overreacts, and it turns into a melee.

"It wasn’t our guys. It’s their team overreacted, pushed our guy, dragging our guy to the sideline, so that’s uncalled for on that side. We have to be better on the sidelines, as well, with both teams."

Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair won't escape his three-game suspension after an illegal hit on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The NFL upheld the suspension after Al-Shaair appealed it.

"Hearing officer Ramon Foster, jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA, has upheld the three-game suspension of Houston linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair," NFL Senior Vice President of Football & International Communications Michael Signora wrote Wednesday in a post on X.

Al-Shaair's hit on Lawrence took place with just over four minutes remaining in the first half of Sunday's game between Jacksonville and Houston. Lawrence scrambled left on a second-and-7 play when he initiated a slide. At that point, Al-Shaair appeared to raise his forearm and make a hit on the defenseless quarterback.

Chaos then broke out on the field when Jacksonville players responded physically to Al-Shaair's hit, sparking a violent melee between the two teams. Jaguars tight end Evan Engram was the first player seen pushing and shoving Al-Shaair after the hit, before multiple other players followed suit.

My goal is to hit you as hard as I can then I pray you’re still able to get up and play the next play," he said in a statement. "And when the game is over go home to your family unharmed because it’s not personal! It’s just competition. We both are trying to do the same thing which is provide for our families!"

"I genuinely didn’t see him sliding until it was too late. And it all happens in the blink of an eye. To Trevor I genuinely apologize to you for what ended up happening. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson defended his team on Wednesday after a controversial brawl against the Houston Texans.

After Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence took an illegal hit on a slide by Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, chaos broke out on the field when Jaguars players responded physically to Al-Shaair's hit, sparking a violent melee between the two teams.

Pederson denied the notion that his players were "going after" anybody.

Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair’s hit on Jacksonville Jaguars star Trevor Lawrence kicked off a debate about quarterbacks’ tactics when it came to sliding after scrambles.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas weighed in on the debate on Tuesday after the NFL announced a three-game suspension for Al-Shaair. He wrote in a post on X that the league needed to get the so-called "weaponized quarterback slide" out of the sport.

"As dangerous as hits on a quarterback are when the quarterback chooses to slide, we need to stop allowing quarterbacks to fake slide or late slide in order to gain yardage and confuse the defenders on if the quarterback is sliding or not," Thomas wrote. "It would go a long way towards taking those terrible hits out of the game and making things more safe for the quarterback and for the defender.

"A late slide, fake slide, or acting like you’re gonna go out of bounds and then skirting forward for a few more yards; these all need to be 15 yard penalties against the offense. And it’s about time the NFL referees started marking the ball down immediately when the quarterback starts to slide… Which is the rule by the way!

"If this happens, the big hits on quarterbacks when they’re sliding will be completely eliminated from the game. That’s what we all want right?"

NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan released a scathing statement about Al-Shaair as the league announced his suspension Tuesday.

Jaguars sign Super Bowl champion quarterback after Trevor Lawrence injury

The Jacksonville Jaguars added a Super Bowl champion quarterback to its roster on Tuesday as the team was dealt a major injury to their depth chart over the weekend.

Trevor Lawrence suffered a concussion from a brutal hit by Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. The defender was suspended for three games over the blow. Lawrence’s status going into Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans is not known just yet.

He still has to clear concussion protocol and make sure the sprained AC joint he was dealing with was also OK.

In the meantime, the Jaguars added John Wolford to the quarterback room. He was signed to the practice squad and could be in line to be the backup for Mac Jones should Lawrence get ruled out for the game against the Titans.

Wolford was a part of the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl team during the 2021 season. He has played in seven games in his career, starting four of them. He has 626 passing yards and one touchdown pass in that span. In those four starts, he is 2-2.

"Video shows you striking the head/neck area of Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence after he clearly goes down in a feet-first slide… You led with your forearm and helmet and delivered a forceful blow to the head/neck area of your opponent when you had time and space to avoid such contact," the letter to Al-Shaair read.

"You proceeded to engage in a brawl, which you escalated when you pulled an opponent down to the ground by his facemask. After the referee announced that you were disqualified for the hit and your unsportsmanlike acts, you removed your helmet and reengaged with your opponent while walking down and across the field, which started another physical confrontation near the end zone."

Runyan said Al-Shaair’s "lack of sportsmanship and respect for the game of football" does not "reflect the core values of the NFL" and called it "troubling."

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans suggested on Monday that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was at fault for the concussion he suffered on the huge hit from linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair during their matchup over the weekend.

Al-Shaair hit Lawrence around the head and neck area as Lawrence slid during a scramble. Ryans told reporters the organization stood behind Al-Shaair after the hit and the criticism he received for it. The coach did not appear to think that Al-Shaair was the only one at fault.

Ryans called the hit on Lawrence "unfortunate."

"But it’s also— it’s twofold, right? I mean a lot of the quarterbacks in this day and age, they try to take advantage of the rule where they slide late, and they try to get an extra yard, and now you’re a defender, a lot of onus is on the defender whether it’s on the sideline or whether it’s on the quarterback, you don’t know what a guy thinking," Ryans said. "You don’t know if a guy is standing up and he’s continuing to run, you don’t know, and then you get a late slide, and you’re— you hit the guy.

"Unfortunate that Trevor got hurt. Hope Trevor is OK, but it’s also, if we’re sliding, we have to get down. "I think what can be done is just you have to look at all sides, and we don’t have to overreact just because I think a guy gets hurt," he said. "We’re not intentionally trying to hurt anyone. I think there is an overreaction when someone gets hurt, but we just have to look at it all from all perspectives."

Al-Shaair apologized for the hit on Lawrence and understood why Jaguars players reacted the way they did.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are unlikely to have starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence facing the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10, but according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there is a chance it could be much longer than that as well.

Lawrence is dealing with a left shoulder injury, his non-throwing arm, following the team’s Week 9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rapoport is reporting that Lawrence "continues to get treatment and weigh options for the future."

There were stirrings that Lawrence would be opting for surgery to repair his ailment, including from former NFL head coach Jon Gruden, but Rapoport nixed the rumor.

With surgery an option for Lawrence, the Jaguars, a team that has not lived up to expectations this season, could be without their franchise signal caller for the remainder of the year.

With a 2-7 record, is it worth Lawrence fighting through injury with a playoff berth likely not coming for Jacksonville? That’s one of the questions to consider, especially with Lawrence signing a very lucrative long-term extension this offseason to remain in place as the team’s franchise quarterback.

Lawrence got the same exact extension as Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow – a five-year, $275 million deal that includes a whopping $142 million guaranteed.

But many questioned Lawrence, the Jaguars’ first overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft, getting such a deal considering he was 20-30 as a starter over the past three seasons.

Through nine games this year, Lawrence has thrown for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions, one of which came on the road in Philadelphia this past Sunday on what looked to be a promising game-winning drive.

Jacksonville is going through a roller coaster this year with their quarterback, but surgery is certainly a question considering C.J. Beathard was also signed to back up Jones. Bringing another veteran quarterback in the building can be telling.
