Ranking the ten best Billy Joel songs of all time in honor of The Piano Man's 77th birthday

Today is my son's second birthday, which is pretty cool. But, more importantly, it is also The Piano Man himself, Billy Joel's 77th birthday (that was a joke, honey).

In all seriousness, I want to wish a happy birthday to Mr. William Martin Joel, whose entire catalog has provided me the soundtrack to many a nighttime drive and mediocre spaghetti meal cooked in the comfort of my own kitchen.

It's such an impressive catalog, in fact, that I decided to rank the 10 best songs the man has ever written.

Obviously, this is a subjective ranking, and I trust that most of you angry New Yorkers will be burning the comments section down with pleas for "Piano Man," which, spoiler alert, will not be making the list.

10. "Pressure" — The Nylon Curtain

Many fans assume that Billy Joel hit a creative and commercial lull in the early to mid 1980s after Glass Houses, but there's still plenty of fun to be had on The Nylon Curtain, and "Pressure" is one track that delivers.

Joel is as cynical and sneering as ever, spitting lines like "But you will come to a place/Where the only thing you feel/Are loaded guns in your face/And you'll have to deal with/Pressure."

The song is a reflection of the pressure on Joel to follow up on his success in the late 70s, and the prodding synthesizer riff adds to the claustrophobic nature of the tune.

A hidden gem if there ever was one.

9. "All For Leyna" — Glass Houses

Speaking of hidden gems, "All For Leyna" is another B-side off of one of Billy Joel's most critically and commercially successful albums, Glass Houses.

It deals with the almost paranoid obsession Joel feels for a girl (presumably named "Leyna") and once again, the instrumentation matches the vibe of the lyrics.

"All For Leyna" features an ear-worm of an opening synth riff that sets the tone for the obsessive and oppressive tune, and Joel captures the essence of young heartbreak to perfection.

It might be one of the catchiest songs about forlornness you'll ever hear.

8. "The Stranger" — The Stranger

Joel really shows off his piano (and whistling) chops on this title track, as the first and last minute or so of this tune is dedicated to a smokey stroll down the ivory keys before busting into a full on rock song.

One thing Joel was very underrated at in his heyday was writing a good, guitar-driven rocker, and "The Stranger" is a great mid-tempo track with a great guitar riff attached to it.

The Stranger as an album was a massive commercial windfall for Joel, but the title track is often overlooked when it comes to the pantheon of his songs, and that is a crying shame.

7. "Allentown" — The Nylon Curtain

I bet you didn't think you'd see not one, but two songs off of Nylon Curtain, did you?

"Allentown" is Billy Joel's ode to the Pennsylvania coal mining and steel factory scene, which was on the way out by the album's release in 1982.

For as much as Joel gets chided for being "just a lounge singer who made it big," he deals with some pretty heavy subject matter, and an entire generation's dreams going up in smoke is pretty dark, though he does a great job of making it more palatable and masking it behind a real toe-tapper.

The instrumentation in this one is, as usual, very on point, and while some might think the addition of the factory horn and banging steel press was a little too "on-the-nose," I think it complements the track perfectly.

6. "Big Shot" — 52nd Street

Another Billy Joel hard rocker, "Big Shot" is about as guitar-centric as the Piano Man ever got, and he hits all the right notes in it.

52nd Street may be an ode to the jazz legends of Manhattan that came before him, but this one eschews that tribute for a good old-fashioned guitar banger.

Joel delivers some all-time classic lyrics such as "you had the Dom Perignon in your hand and the spoon up your nose," and "gonna cry in your car, baby don't come bitchin' to me," in this tale of a woman biting off more than she could chew.

This is late '70s rock at its finest.

5. "Sleeping With The Television On" — Glass Houses

Much like "Big Shot," "Sleeping With The Television On" relies on a slashing guitar riff, but does so in a more quiet, understated fashion than its direct predecessor on this list.

The lyrics are pretty straightforward, dealing with a picky woman who turns down every guy who makes a move on her and goes home to fall asleep "with the television."

Joel gives every shy guy their anthem, with the line "I really wish I was less of a thinking man/and more a fool who's not afraid of rejection" pretty much summing up my "dating" life in college.

Regardless, it's a great B-side off of an album chock-full of hits, and is worth a listen the next time you give Glass Houses a run.

4. "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)" — The Stranger

The vibe of this song is hard to describe, but if I had to sum it up in just a short, succinct sentence it would be this: Every time I'm eating chicken parm alone in my living room (which isn't often enough for my liking), "Movin' Out" is playing from my phone.

Nothing captures the vibe of late '70s New York quite like this tune (though there is one a little later on the list that beats this puppy in that category).

The bassline to this tune has been stuck in my head probably since 2011 and it's not leaving anytime soon, and the motorcycle sounds during the outro are just the touch of class this baby needed to bring it all home.

It's the little details that set Billy apart from his peers.

3. "You May Be Right" — Glass Houses

If ever there were a great, radio-ready Billy Joel song, this is it.

It's one of Joel's most recognizable songs, and for good reason.

The guitar riff and chorus, respectively, are some of the catchiest in the man's extensive catalog, which is saying a lot.

The harmonic honking in the outro deserves special mention, and the lyrics are some of Joel's finest ("I walked through Bedford-Stuy alone/Even rode my motorcycle in the rain").

It's hard to say too much about this one, it's just a classic Billy Joel pop song. Nothing more, nothing less.

2. "Sometimes A Fantasy" — Glass Houses

While "You May Be Right" is the more recognizable song, "Sometimes A Fantasy" is the better song in every conceivable manner.

The guitar riff is such a delicious slice of early '80s pop-rock mastery, the lyrics are a hilarious double-entendre minefield, and the chorus is more infectious than influenza.

The call-and-response in said chorus is worth the price of admission alone, as you'll be singing "It's just a fantasy (whoa oh)/It's not the real thing (whoa oh)" until the day you die.

Bonus points if you look up the 1987 Moscow performance of this song, where Joel flips out on his stage crew and ad libs his angry epithets in between some of the lyrics.

He's a true professional, even when he's irate!

1. "New York State of Mind" — Turnstiles

If I had to pick one song to capture the entire essence of Billy Joel, it would be "New York State of Mind."

It's an autobiographical and introspective look from Joel himself about how he moved to California, grew "out of touch with the rhythm and blues," then moved back to the Empire State to reconnect with his roots.

The lyrics evoke a longing for a city I've only visited once (and hated), showing Joel's mastery of storytelling and the piano work in this one is second to none.

Joel is obviously known as "The Piano Man," and the intro to "New York State of Mind" should be at the top of his resume.

It absolutely sets a mood of longing for a hometown and a routine, and it makes this one the song for a late-night slow drive through a big city.

Simply put, "New York State of Mind" is a perfect song, and I don't say that lightly.

Let's get Saturday Screencaps rolling with Paige "Paigeviews" Spiranac hitting some absolute bombs at the Truist Championship pro-am this week where the PGA boys are battling a meat grinder of a course. Rory's brain is scrambled over this course. Did you see the two-foot gimme birdie putt that he pushed to the right during Friday's round?

I did. I was sitting in the man cave last night stuffing Thursday Night Mowing League sticker envelopes – get yours before they're gone! – and actually felt bad for Rory. That's how close the putt was.

Let's get back to Paige. There was a time when the PGA Tour wouldn't dare invite this content machine to its pro-ams. Over at the LPGA Tour, she was pretty much blackballed over her attire. Paige has talked about how she was shunned. Paige was, it seemed, from the wrong side of the tracks.

Now, here we are two to three years removed from the Bud Light fiasco and we're getting more Paige from the PGA. Listen to the people in the video calling out her name. Women love Paige. Men definitely love Paige. The kids want her autograph. That's the America I want to live in, not the one where Bud Light hasn't featured a single woman on its Instagram page in 2026. More TNML envelopes are going out today

If you sent me an envelope for a TNML sticker, I have stuffed your envelope...IF YOU SENT ME THE RIGHT SIZE ENVELOPE. I never even thought to tell people to send envelopes that would fit a 4" sticker. I had people sending me envelopes that wouldn't fit a 2" sticker. I have probably 10 sticker requests that I'll have to eat the postage because people didn't send the right size envelope, but that's on me for not spelling out the rules and regulations. Lesson learned on my part.

Speaking of TNML mail, I received a University of Tennessee graduation invitation addressed to "Ella Langley" and sent to the TNML mailbox. The invitation includes a very long note from the female grad directed right at Ella. It's absolutely bizarre.

Americans and their DoorDash addiction

– Chris W. in California has thoughts: Reading about how much we great Americans are spending on DoorDash is insane! I cannot for the life of me understand why people want to pay a premium for cold food delivered by some random dropout in a barely running Honda Civic. My youngest step-daughter has food delivered via DoorDash all the time and not only is almost all fast food way overpriced but by the time she pays the DoorDash fee and a tip she could have gone out for a halfway decent dinner at a sit-down restaurant or bought a nice steak to grill up but she can't be bothered to drive literally 1 block away to the McDonald's down the street!

I refuse to have anything delivered to me, even pizza. It's much quicker, easier and cheaper for me to get in m truck and drive a few blocks to any of the local places we get food from. I don't have to tip (because I'll be damned if I'm going to tip if I'm picking up the food from a takeout counter), the food is hotter and if something is messed up with my order I can get it fixed right then and there. Running out to pick up Chinese REALLY isn't that hard or that inconvenient and I'd much rather do that then sit around hoping and praying my food shows up in a timely, somewhat edible manner delivered by someone I probably wouldn't want as a guest in my house anyway.

As for the person that wrote in about the stranger that pulled into his driveway with a job, I think he was right on. In my 46 years of life I've learned to trust that little voice in my head and if something seems off it normally is. It sounds like the whole thing turned out okay, but the one time you don't trust that voice could be the one time the s hits the fan. Even if the stranger's intentions were truly ultraistic that is still an extremely odd thing to do and I think most of your readers would have reacted the same way.

A stranger pulls into my driveway and I'm not expecting them I'm coming out locked and loaded. I live in California so I'll probably get life in prison for just thinking that but I don't care. I'd rather be prepared to protect my loved ones than be left flatfooted. We've all gotta wear it from the wife from time to time because let's face it, we just think differently than they do on certain things but it's worth it and this too shall pass.

Random thoughts including a question on winning the Savannah Bananas lottery

– Jeff dumped out a few thoughts on Thursday: - How much life are folks getting out of mowers and yard equipment? I have a 25 year old John Deere 125 with B&S 20hp engine. I rarely do any maintenance on it (had to replace a head on it 10 years ago due to rods bending from overheating). It sits in the shed over the winter with whatever gas is left in the tank after the last leaf chopping. Fires right up in the spring. Same with my 25 year old Craftsman 14" rear tine tiller. The 11 year old Honda push mower that I use to mow & bag around the pool sits outside all year. I keep a rain cover on it but that's it. Pretty sure anything new I bought today would not tolerate that kind of treatment or get the same longevity. But maybe I'm wrong.

- Has anyone scored Banana Ball tickets from their lottery? I've tried a couple of times (Louisville a few years ago; Lexington this year). No luck. I don't care enough to pay scalper prices but am curious how often folks are able to get tickets from their generic lottery.

- How could you let the Outkick store run out of XL size TNML t-shirts? Seems like that would be the size you'd always want on hand. Oh well. Hopefully the Large runs "big".

- I decided I'd rather have a "dead strip" along/under my 4 board fence (with chain link) than spend 2+ hours with the weedeater. I hit it a few times a year with generic RoundUp. If that's cheating I don't care.

- Anyone else get over eager to start their vegetable garden only to get wiped out by frost last weekend? Now I get to do it again this weekend.

Time to put on the 1/4 zip (it's still chilly in KY) and get mowing.

Kinsey: My Briggs & Stratton push mower lasted 15 years, and was still running, but I'd reached a point where I was ready for some better mulching features, which led to my Honda purchase. A neighbor picked up the mower in a trade (Mrs. Screencaps wanted a bike that this guy had), refurbished it a little bit and I assume flipped it on Marketplace.

As for the Bananas, Canoe Kirk won the lottery two years ago, I believe it was. Other than that, I can't think of any of my immediate friends who've won.

I will say, coconut creme pie is super underrated in the world of pies. It deserves far more respect than it gets. Not here, though. We respect the veterans in this class.

Good to have former FSU cowgirl/Jets reporter Jenn Sterger back in class to celebrate Star Wars Day. I wrote about deranged Mark Hamill this morning, for those who really get in the weeds.
I could (and have) watched that Bartolo Colon home run a billion times, and never get bored. It's my favorite MLB moment ... maybe ever?
Was I the only one a bit underwhelmed by the alien files this morning? I know it's only phase one, but still ... I've seen a thousand videos of the moving black and white dots in mid-air over my lifetime. That's nothing new or revelatory. Wake me up when you get one of these bad boys up close.

For those who missed it, Tyreek was in court this week to begin his battle against 6-1, 250-pound OnlyFans model, Sophie Hall.

Hall alleges that — and I hope you're sitting down for this — Hill invited her over a few summers ago to practice some football in the backyard. Seriously. He then had her do an offensive line drill, and she promptly knocked the 5-11 Hill to the ground. Hall then claims that Hill was so embarrassed by this, he fractured her leg.

Naturally, Hall claims, Hill then gave her a piggyback ride to the bedroom and they had a full night of sex. As one does, of course.

Hill claims Hall broke her leg because she tripped on a dog.

Koe Wetzel dropped new music for his fans on Friday, and the reactions are overwhelmingly positive.

Wetzel is one of the most talented acts in country music, and he recently sent shockwaves through the industry with the announcement of his new album "The Night Champion."

Hype is off the charts for the country megastar, and he's now spinning people up with a new track.

Wetzel released "Hurts Like You" – a song that will be on "The Night Champion" – for fans early Friday morning, and it's another example of his unique style.

FBI received tip Nazis built secret UFO craft, bombshell declassified documents reveal

Declassified FBI documents reveal the Nazis might have had secret UFO-like crafts.

The U.S. government, at the direction of President Donald Trump, dropped a gold mine of UFO files early Friday morning.

As a UFO enthusiast (impossible not to be at this point), I immediately dived in, and uncovered a gem:

The possible existence of a Nazi UFO in 1944.

The documents released to the public on Friday included multiple pages concerning a tip about a possible Nazi UFO craft.

The Nazis were obsessed with advanced weapons programs during the war, including what some might consider wonder weapons. Weapons so powerful that they could change the tide of the war.

Of course, the super weapons failed to be produced at a high enough level to have any serious impact, but that didn't mean the Nazis didn't try.

The FBI documents allege a man named Paul Peyerl handed over information that claimed the Nazis built the craft in 1944 in the Black Forest of Austria.

As you can see in the documents, the FBI makes it clear that the documents contain "neither recommendations nor conclusions" of the federal agency. That means it's borderline impossible to know whether or not the Nazi UFO existed or not.

What we do know is that the Nazis did produce some unbelievable weapons and technology for the era. Specifically, the V-2 and the Messerschmitt Me 262 were incredible inventions for the 1940s.

Operation Paperclip also saw the United States take several top Nazi scientists and engineers to put their skills to use for America during the Cold War.

It wouldn't be surprising at all if the Nazis had attempted to build a UFO-like craft. On that note, infamous Nazi Hans Kammler was a major Nazi engineer, and his fate remains unknown to this day. Some theories have suggested he eventually was secretly taken into U.S. custody.

Disney's big mistake with "Star Wars" was turning Luke Skywalker into Mark Hamill: miserable, pathetic and sad

I've said it for years now, but it's worth repeating today: Luke Skywalker has become such a miserable, depressing loser.

Just an old, insufferable, pathetic, sad loser.

I can't believe Mark Hamill has made the world hate Luke Skywalker. That would have been nearly impossible 30 years ago. Or 20 years ago. Or, really, even 10 years ago.

But a lot has changed in a decade. Hamill, like most of Hollywood, suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome. I believe he was first diagnosed back in 2016, and he's really starting to deteriorate now. You see it with old people, right? I'm seeing it happen right now with my grandma in the nursing home down the street.

Again, it's sad. It's brutal to watch. But, that's how these diseases work. They turn you into a completely different person. That's what we're seeing with Mark Hamill.

For those who missed it, Hamill posted a picture depicting President Trump in a casket to his Bluesky account earlier this week. Yes, I said Bluesky. I know, try to stop laughing. Mark swore off Elon's Twitter years ago after Trump won the election. True story.

MARK HAMILL SAYS HE'S 'REALLY ASHAMED' AMERICA ELECTED TRUMP TWICE

Anyway, Hamill faced such intense backlash for the photo that he predictably deleted it Thursday night, replacing it with some sort of BS apology that nobody believes nor really cares about. He tried to spin the photo, clearly depicting a dead Trump, as something else.

OK, Mark. Whatever you say, pal.

I don't care about that. Mark Hamill has been a lunatic for years now. When they show you their true colors, believe them. We all know he's obsessed with the president. That's not news.

But Hamill's disgusting post comes on the heels of a bad week for "Star Wars," and that's what I'd like to talk about here.

Disney's "Star Wars" started to go south pretty quickly

Earlier this week, Nielsen released Star Wars streaming data over the past year. It painted a really bad picture for Disney's controversial sequels.

And by "really bad," I mean not only are people not watching them ... people are ignoring them completely.

Not one of Disney's sequels to the Skywalker saga — "Force Awakens," "Last Jedi," or "Rise of Skywalker" — made the top 10 most streamed Star Wars films/shows last May the Fourth. Not one.

The list was mostly made up for the originals and the three prequels, with a couple Disney TV installments (Andor) mixed in.

I knew fans despised the newest trilogy ... I didn't realize they truly hated it to the point where they literally ignore it. I figured at least one would make the list, right?

Wrong. And it's so obvious why ...

Look at Mark Hamill. He is exactly what Star Wars has become under woke Disney's watch. An exhausting, preachy, frankly, boring and outdated version of his former self.

That's what Star Wars has devolved into, and that's who Mark Hamill has become.

The writing is lazy. The battles are boring. The plot makes no sense. Above all, it's become just unwatchable, insufferable and full of virtue-signaling. It's what all of Hollywood has become since Donald Trump first took office in 2016.

John Boyega, who played Finn — a Black stormtrooper — in the sequels, once complained that Disney mishandled the introduction of a Black character. Seriously. He was upset that his Black character wasn't more central in the final two movies.

And you know what? He was right. Finn's arc was awful, and that goes back to how bad the writing was. But it had nothing to do with him being Black. He was a good character that was completely botched by Disney. I don't care if he was Black, White or purple — his character STUNK.

Boyega, of course, made it about race. Again, it was exhausting.

The demise of Star Wars and the demise of Luke Skywalker are the same

But that was the case with all of the sequels, except, of course, the first one. Disney admitted that one was more of an ode to the fans, with most of the main cast returning. Shockingly, it was the best of all three ... by a mile.

Hamill returned to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in "Last Jedi," and that's when things really started to spiral. Luke, like Hamill in real life, had morphed into this unrecognizable loser. Just a pathetic, sad old man who hated the world and spent his days in solitude. It was embarrassing.

Luke's demise and Boyega's whining about the Black stormtrooper weren't the only reasons Disney's three movies failed.

There were also rumors of a gay love story between Finn and Poe.
The introduction of an Asian love interest for Finn in the second movie that literally made no sense. And I mean NO sense.
And, of course, the re-introduction of the emperor in the final installment even though Darth Vader killed him decades prior.

Don't bother watching. He returned to the big screen hanging from some sort of clothes hanger in a cave. It was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

Next to Disney's portrayal of Luke, of course. That was their big mistake. I can get past the virtue-signaling and the bad writing and Carrie Fisher floating in space (seriously).

Let's get Friday Screencaps and the weekend cranking with Tiffany Stratton and her NEW WWE United States Championship belt going for a ride around Miami on a jet ski to celebrate her recent victory where she defeated Giulia during an episode of SmackDown.

I am not a wrestling guy, but I know content and the minute Tiff busted out that belt and started parading it around Biscayne Bay like it's a Super Bowl trophy, I knew immediately that it was Screencaps material.

By the way, according to wrestling insiders, real WWE belts have been estimated to be worth up to at least $250,000. An Andre the Giant championship belt reportedly sold for $600,000. In other words, Tiff Tiff's belt here probably isn't worth over a half-million, but it's not some cheap piece of plastic either. Put it this way, if she dropped it into the Bay, there's a good chance Triple H is sending a dive team down to go retrieve it.

Now that the blood is good and pumping, let's keep rolling with a trip to North Dakota

The legacy Screencaps readers know that this column has a contingent of readers from Crosby, North Dakota. We're talking an extremely remote part of the United States where you're on your own. The nearest McDonald's is a helluva drive. If you want Chick-fil-A, it's a four-to five-hour trip. You get the idea. These boys are REMOTE.

But, because they're in the middle of nowhere, we get videos like this from Dillon L. who is coaching the golf team. Yes, Crosby has its own nine-hole course and it's nice because the locals keep it nice and take pride in what they have.

– Dillon writes: Thought you and the caps community would appreciate this video from our high school golf meet today. This occurred on hole 5 here at the Crosby Country Club.

Kinsey: How far do the boys travel to compete? It's not for the faint of heart.

– Dillon adds: Usually about 2 hours for most meets. Was nice to be able to host this one, we even won it which was cool.... Monday will be just under 3 hours away (10 am tee off). To qualify for state we play what they call a "super region" where 2 regions combine, that will be played at Bully Pulpit (legit course, supposedly makes national lists, never broke 90 there myself). That will be a little over 3 hours to get there... Also, not sure if its normal to put distance into time measurements, but 100% the only way we compare distances, no clue mileage.

Kinsey: I looked it up. Dillon and the team will travel approximately 220 miles one-way to play at Bully Pulpit. That's like me and the text group driving up to northern Michigan, getting out of the car and playing a meat grinder of a course. Good luck, boys.

Great Americans are stepping up to Make Rec Ball Great Again

Last night, Millennial Chris B. in Bowling Green had to make a 35-minute drive for a 7 p.m. first pitch and then proceeds to see his 10U travel ball team get run-ruled in four innings. The Millennial didn't get home until around 9:30 p.m. This morning, he's back to work digging holes for gas lines and busting his ass. It's time to MAKE REC BALL GREAT AGAIN. Kids under 13 shouldn't have to make such trips on a Thursday night.

Do you wash your Q-zips after every wear?

– Chris A. says you're insane if you don't: I have a five-day outfit rotation for my office work, with five pairs of pants and five 1/4 zips during the cooler months and about 15-20 polos. The polos and 1/4 zips get washed after every wear, and the pants get a wash after 8-10 wears unless I splash something on them. I can't see not washing 1/4 zips after every wear. Your pits don't just sweat onto your shirt, they bleed through to the next layer as well.

As for DoorDash, count me among those who have never had food delivered to their house. Never. I don't want to hear another G__D___ word from anyone pissing and moaning about how tight their money situation is, they can't pay off their student loans, their electric bills are too high, and yet they blow hundreds each month getting Starbucks delivered to them when they get a hankering. Just STFU. The problem is, these are the same clowns who will cry about how they don't have money saved up for retirement, and now we'll have to bail them out. Boo-freakin'-hoo.

Rob writes: Just a few thoughts since the site changed its look. To be honest, I’m really having to adjust to the look of the new site, it just feels different. I’m pretty sure it’s me, I’m old and still love the old Blog form, but I will improvise, adapt and overcome ( shout out to Gunny Highway).

Natalie Decker- She sure is fun to look at, but she couldn’t drive a nail in with a hammer. I get it, she’s hot, makes for some great promo pics, but she is a train wreck behind the wheel. Go ahead Nascar, do whatever you have to do to get some more eyeballs on your product, but here is an idea, I’ll give you this one for free, someone over there get a pen and paper. Put a better race on, get rid of the awful looking cars, go back to the Manufacturer wars. You don’t think the Big three want to showcase their product? Drop some of the races on tracks no one gives a damn about and showcase the old school tracks, Bristol, Talladega and Daytona get three races a season. Try and get your fanbase back, the ones that got you where you are, or at least where you were, because right now the product is unwatchable. Oh, stop jamming Bubba Wallace down our throats, I’d rather watch Natalie than him.

– David takes us home this week: Your email from Doug in Mason inspired me to write. My stepdaughter came into my life when she was 6 months old. At about 18 months she was diagnosed with a chromosomal disorder that severely impacted her cognitive development, though fortunately she didn’t have any physical issues from it — she’s been mostly healthy as a horse.

Each day for the first years of her life were a struggle — not for any other reason other than just to trying to keep her safe. She loved climbing, running away, and had no fear. We had hoped she would eventually be able to talk, but even now (she’s 27) she can just say 1-2 word sentences.

On the plus side, when she was 6 she figured it out and got potty trained, and let me tell you that was one of the happiest days of our lives! Changing the dump on a 6-year old was about as unpleasant as you can imagine. She also started going to school in a self-enclosed classroom at that point and we were able to finally coast for a few years. We were a bit worried about puberty, but fortunately that wasn’t too bad.

She managed to thrive through high school, but — like in most places — once she turned 21 the state cut her loose and we were on are own again.She’s happy and pretty well adjusted but pretty much still a 3 year old. It is like being with an eternal child and though there’s a sadness associated with that, there’s still some sweetly poignant things as well. Birthdays and Christmas never get old for her. When we can do it, a trip to Disneyland is the highlight of her year.

And then two years ago I got cancer. The only thing I cried about when I was diagnosed was that the 20 years or so more I thought I had to take care of her were gone. I have to cast her to the whims of society before I’m ready. I don’t know if it will make much difference, but please ask the world to take of her when I’m gone.

Let's spin the wheel and start with the predictable freakout over this rat virus on the cruise ship. No, I ain't looking up the name. I don't much care. Not yet, at least. I choose to ignore it, because that's how I assume things just go away. It's how I live my life, really.

FIVE YEARS AFTER COVID LOCKDOWNS: THE 5 MOST BIZARRE ‘STOP-THE-SPREAD’ MOMENTS

All the hullabaloo did get me thinking about all the fearmongering I've been through over my 33 years on this planet. Obviously, COVID was the big one. Duh. But, folks forget that we've heard it all over the past three decades.

When I was a kid, it was the SARS outbreak. When I was a junior in high school, it was swine flu. Remember swine flu?! What a time to be alive. My then-girlfriend (now-wife) actually got swine flu, and then took the ACT and absolutely embarrassed me. I think she got a 34. I'm quite sure I didn't sniff the 30s.

Of course, there was the Ebola madness when I was in college, and then COVID. People forget about the Monkeypox hysteria after COVID in 2023. That was fun. We've also had a couple of flare-ups of the measles and bird flu.

What's that? Six? This will be my seventh! That's a lot of epidemic/pandemic/plandemic experience in just 30 years. I consider myself a seasoned vet. What about you? I'm sure we've got some real warriors in this class. Some pandemic lifers. Let's hear it!

Yesterday, I asked everyone when "Star Wars" officially lost you as a fan. I wrote about it earlier this week, but wanted to get you input because I'm of the belief that we're the smartest class in America.

Shockingly, you guys did NOT hold back.

"The prequel trilogy I thoroughly enjoyed, and think phantom menace gets way too much hate because of jar jar, but the darth maul lightsaber duel at the end makes up for that, especially if you’re 9 watching it in theaters.

But even then, the nostalgia was strong enough to get me to go pay money to see The Last Jedi (one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, let alone just a bad Star Wars movie). I agree with everything! This is why Ryan is a Nightcaps OG. "Phantom Menace" 100% gets way too much hate. The last 30 minutes of TPM are some of the best in the entire saga. There, I said it.

I can still remember the entire theater gasp when Darth Maul whipped out the double lightsaber. If I remember correctly, the trailers all kept that from us, so it was stunning. Not one single moment in Disney's awful sequels even comes close to those three minutes.

It could also be because, I don't know, they also involved a heavy dose of Mark Hamill, who has become just the most insufferable person on the planet?

Gee, can't imagine why fans were tired of Mark Hamill towards the end! He's so normal now!

OK, let's rapid-fire this long class into a big Thursday night. Strap in, we're going quick.

First up? We didn't get to Ted Turner's passing yesterday, but I did find this little nugget amazing:

Could you imagine a team trying to pull off THAT promotion in today's world? Folks would faint.

Lordy. What is it with MLB fans the last few years? We had the Pirates fan last year fall onto the actual field, and now this guy was one leg away from a potentially nasty situation. Good on the fans for stepping in, though.

Nowadays, they just whip out their phones, hit record, and let the chips fall where they may. Not here. Good work!

I don’t know what it is today, but it took a lot of caffeine to get me going this morning. It could be the rain. It could be the realization that we might have lost a real NFL love story with all the alleged Russini-Vrabel stuff.

It could be pure exhaustion from last week's claim from Ray J that he's slept with 12,500 women. That number is outrageous and the headline alone, no matter how ridiculous it is, tires me out.

I'm not even going to try to do the math or take a deep dive into how he arrives at that number. I'm going to ignore how insane it is and store that knowledge of Ray J's claim as though it's a fact.

My best friend fired me as the maid of honor

The maid of honor and bride's best friend of 7 years didn’t end up attending the wedding after a bachelorette trip to Nashville. As she describes it, the bride was engaged to an awful man and was chasing a certain "rich" lifestyle.

The couple preparing to walk down the aisle met on a dating app, and he "love bombed" her right away. It was love at first sight. The first sight of money that her friend's now-husband had flashed, that is.

She was now set "to chase the traditional dream of perfect life, wife, and kids at 30," the fired maid of honor wrote on Reddit.

As part of her duties as the maid of honor, she set everything up for the bachelorette trip. She invited her close friends, a close friend of the groom and the groom's sister.

"At first, J (the groom) was hesitant about her going on this bachelorette as he’s extremely insecure, but she managed to convince him to let her go. I, on the other hand, managed to convince the group to cover the travel expenses for the Bride," she explained.

The bride-to-be, during the festivities, started saying things like she was only with her fiancé for his money and that she was not attracted to him. She tossed her engagement ring into her purse, told people they were on a "girls trip," then proceeded to enjoy herself.

Some may conclude that she enjoyed herself a little too much. The best friend admitted that she could have stopped her, but didn’t. Not when she acted like it was a girls trip and not when she popped off her ring.

Then she found the future bride at the bar with an attractive stranger. One thing led to another and when the other ladies called it a night, she ended up going to the attractive stranger's hotel.

"I stayed with the bride to make sure she got home safe," she wrote. "Instead, she propositioned me to a threesome with this stranger, and while I declined, I did follow her to the hotel, and waited in the lobby while she did the deed."

The next day, the group went back out and the groom's friend started to get suspicious when the attractive stranger showed up again. The bride's panic about what had gone on during the trip didn’t set in until they were heading back home.

The best friend gave her two options. She can tell the groom what happened and cancel the wedding, or she can take the infidelity to her grave with her and carry on as if nothing happened.

The bride chose a third option. She told her future husband most of the story, enough for him to get mad and kick her out for a period of time, and placed the blame on the best friend, claiming she was a "bad influence."

The couple manages to smooth things over and kick the maid of honor out of the wedding. They end up tying the knot and plan to live happily ever after without the bride's best friend in their life.

Talk about going out with a bang before getting married. Now you might find this surprising, but I'm on the bride's side here. She can’t have a best friend around who tells her after a wild trip that there's only two options.

She needs someone by her side willing to do serious brainstorming. I don’t blame her for pushing the best friend under the bus.

A sugar daddy with money problems

On paper, a sugar daddy with money problems would appear to be an issue. But lucky for this young lady, the game of life doesn’t play out on paper.

Will it become an issue down the road at some point? I'm sure it will, but those are problems for another day. This sugar daddy isn’t stopping his spending.

She's been casually dating the older, wealthy man (maybe not as wealthy as he once was) for a year. She says that she genuinely likes him and wouldn’t be dating him if that wasn’t the case. The gifts, trips, fancy meals, and everything are apparently a bonus.

"I found out recently that he made some poor business decisions and is actually deeply in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy," she wrote to Slate.

"I told him that he can stop spending so much money on me, but he insisted that our relationship helps him take his mind off the major stressors in his life. He wants things to continue as usual and for me to not worry about his financial situation at all."

Can we give this guy a round of applause? It's not smart. It's more than likely going to make it more difficult for him to climb out of the hole he's dug for himself, and he's head down, full steam ahead, like nothing has changed.

She's feeling guilty for allowing him to continue to spoil her when she knows he's got some money problems, but I don’t hear any plans for issuing an ultimatum.

This is love. If she can ignore his reckless spending and pretend like everything is just fine, she might be the one.

What instantly kills mood during foreplay?

This week one of the hot topics in the cesspool of Reddit was mood killers when things are just starting to heat up. You have the classics like having the wrong name called out and there are some truly bizarre ones with body parts being used as radio dials. Here are some ways to kill the mood:

Taylor Sheridan's hit series about the world of black operations, CIA and Tier One commandos has been a smashing success through two seasons.

It's the exact kind of energy Sheridan fans have come to expect. Dark, gritty, violent, unrelenting and an incredible amount of fun.

As I've said many times before, the season two premiere featured the greatest rolling gunfight scene in modern TV history.

Now, fans are eager to find out what comes next.

"Lioness" eyes summer release for season three.

Season two of "Lioness" wrapped up in December 2024 with an epic mission in Iran. A bit ironic considering what's currently happening in the world.

Fans have been desperate to get new episodes of Sheridan's epic drama. It's been known for some time that season three will arrive in 2026. However, no obvious release window was clear.

That's now changing.

Star Michael Kelly spoke with Collider about the upcoming season, and indicated it might just be a few months away from premiering.

"We have completed it, and I don’t know for sure [what I can tell people], but I think it’s [coming out] somewhere around the end of the summer, probably, it’ll come out. It’s really good, man. Really fun," Kelly explained to the outlet in an article published Tuesday.

A late-summer release wouldn't be far off from the late-July release of season one in 2023.

Kelly isn't the only "Lioness" star who has weighed in with updates on season three. Jill Wagner revealed back in March that production had wrapped up on the upcoming episodes.

Let's get Thursday Screencaps cranking with the latest DoorDash financial numbers that continue to boggle my mind. Americans, in huge numbers, are showing absolutely no sign of weakness when it comes to having some random person deliver Olive Garden to their apartment doors.

In January, the New York Times ran a story where they profiled a couple that spends $700 a week to order food delivery. "I am so burned out and tired, I would rather just throw my credit card at the problem and delay that unhappiness until the bill comes," the guy said. The Times noted that this guy's son can't read, but he can "put together an order" on the Chick-fil-A app. "I am impressed, but I am also terrified," the dad noted.

What the hell are we doing? Are we really this lazy? I have heard from the salesmen who are on the road and just want food delivered to their hotels so they don't have to go to restaurants. I get it. Maybe you broke both of your legs in a skiing accident and you are craving Texas Roadhouse that's been sitting in some dope smoker's car for 25 minutes. I get it. Not really, but I understand you're in a tough spot.

Readers react to Doug in Mason's story about caring for a son with cerebral palsy

– Legacy Screencaps reader Sean K. wanted to say: Just wanted to pass along big props to Doug and his wife for the long-term care they've given their son Joey. I know a few people who have so dedicated their lives this way to their special needs children and/or other family members and they have told me the same; the light that comes on in their loved one's eyes is what makes it all worth it.

His email reminded me of a news clip from years ago where a newly graduated Marine in dress blues visited his sister at their high school gym who had cerebral palsy. She was so excited to see him she nearly fell out of her wheelchair. (Wish I could find that clip). You could just feel the love she had for him and he for her through the TV screen.

Best to them and keep it up. Still getting used to the new 'Fox' format but the content is 100% the same. And I read it every day to keep sane. Thanks as always for what you do.

– Jon in Iowa was stopped in his tracks by Doug's story: Had to respond after reading this morning’s Screencaps. Doug’s story choked me up. I did not have to deal with such hard things with my children and I can’t imagine what he and his family went through. I do know that people like Doug and family are what you called the backbone of this country.

I don’t want to make this about me, but I am just starting to deal with something with my wife. Not going into details, but I know what is ahead. So far I can still get out to go golfing and she can still get on the plane couple times a year to get to Arizona for the winter. Doug needs to know he is an inspiration. I know that we are very fortunate to have had the lives we’ve had.

Doug’s life made me think about people in this video. Imagine how pathetic your life is that you would act like this with your wife and daughter. Have people like this ever done anything that was hard. Or dealt with any kind of adversity. Doubt it.

Did Marty overreact?

– Marty in Idaho emails: About 7 AM Monday while I’m waiting for Screencaps to publish, an unknown car pulls into my rural Idaho driveway. My daughter and 7 month old grandson are in the kitchen with me. I step outside toward the car and the unknown driver gets out of the car and says, "I need help". He’s young (30?), doesn’t seem to be in distress and his car seems fine. He goes on to say that he found a dog wandering on the road so he stopped and put it in his car which I have no way to confirm (so he pulls into a random driveway with a 90ish pound husky in his passenger seat with no collar?).

None of this seems right to me. I look at the dog and don’t recognize it so I’m expecting the guy to get back in his car and drive away. About this time my daughter walks out and suggests I take a photo of the dog and send it to our neighbor text group. Good idea assuming everything is legit. The guy says he’s going to be late for work and wants me to take the dog.

That’s a no go for me (for all I know it’s his dog) but my daughter speaks up and says she’ll take it. I am not happy with my daughter at this point who insists we take this enormous dog (apparently I was rude to this guy). She gets the dog out of the car and I immediately take it to animal rescue. While waiting at animal rescue I text the photo and one of the neighbors thinks the dog might belong to a guy about a mile away from our house. I take the dog there and it is his; happy ending.I’ve been berated by my daughter and my wife (who was sleeping) for overreacting and being rude for two days now.

I explain that when the situation looks off, your guard should be up. This time it turned out OK but what if this guy had other intentions (or just wanted to get rid of his dog)? Did I overreact in this situation?

The end of the track season for Screencaps Jr.

– Gerard puts things into perspective for me: Track meets can be long cold and windy but those 4.5 hours are way less time consuming and expensive compared to any travel sport. Be grateful he is in track and not travel baseball or basketball!! You will have every weekend free and will be able to afford real vacations. He may even be fast enough to get preferred admission into the college of his choice down the road……..

We encouraged our daughter to do something other than competition dance (that’s another racket). She is doing track because her friends are. I had never been to a track meet before her 1st one in march. We were told to be there by 4pm. She had ONE event and it didn’t go off until 930pm. Thankfully it was a Friday but last week was more of the same. She was in 3 events, got there by 3:45pm, and her first event didn’t go off until 7:20pm on a Wednesday night!!! She was done early I might add. This is to much on a school night.

I ran track (sprints and long jump) for a CYO team from 12-15 years old, and it was all day Saturday meets in April and May. 8 hours minimum. My parents maybe went to one or two meets during that four years, and I couldn't blame them. So many events, so many age groups. At least the long distance events were one heat, but with four age groups times two genders, that's an hour right there. Brutal if you aren't participating.

How about the sub-2 hour marathons run in London a couple of weeks ago? You said your son's best mile time is 5:40 (so far). My best, and only, timed mile was 5:20 when I was 15. These guys are running 4:35 miles for 26+ miles! 64-second quarter miles, 108 of them in a row! I can't fathom that. Don't care if it's the shoes, someone's feet still have to be in them. That's right up there with breaking the 4 minute mile barrier.

Kinsey: I don't have the numbers in front of me, but Screencaps Jr.'s PR is somewhere in the mid-5:30s right now. I'm thinking 5:36. He's 13. Google says that's pretty good at that age. You know what? He's eating well, running good times, packing on muscle, can handle himself in a room full of people and has been ordering his own meals at restaurants for years. Mrs. Screencaps and I count our blessings. Trust me.

And with that, we're ready to go for another day of life. The sun is as bright as it has been this spring. I plan on taking a quick stroll through the yard with Mrs. Screencaps at lunch. We need to build a plan of attack for Mother's Day weekend. Projects need completed.

But, first, let's go put in a day of work. Go get after it.

Ted Turner remembered fondly for hosting wet T-shirt college nights after Braves games, like a true hero

CNN founder and media mogul Ted Turner died Wednesday at 87. Well, scratch that. Those two labels don't quite do him justice.

Let me try again: Ted Turner — the founder of CNN, a media mogul, a business tycoon, a world-renowned sailor, the creator of the superstation, the former owner of the Atlanta Braves, and a fierce supporter of wet T-shirt contests — died Wednesday at 87.

Whew. How is THAT for a list of accomplishments to take with you to the pearly gates? Did Ted leave it all out on the field, or what?

Yes, that last one is obviously why I'm here writing about Ted today. I know he was a pioneer in the TV industry. That's his lasting legacy. But folks forget he was once the owner of the Atlanta Braves (and Hawks), and, more importantly, he used to host "wet T-shirt contests" during college nights at Braves games.

That's right. We used to be a proper country. I say it all the time, but we really did used to have it all, and we just pissed it all away. I grew up in the 1990s when Ted's TBS "superstation" was all the rage, and I loved it to death. Some of the best days of my life.

But boy, do I wish I could go back to the 1970s and take in a Braves games and then a wet t-shirt contest. Wrong era!

Ted Turner also managed the Braves for one single day

It's not often that both Clay Travis and Darren Rovell post about the same thing, but here we are.

This is the effect Ted Turner had on folks. People from both sides of the aisle spent yesterday remembering Turner. Some, for his efforts in the media world.

Others, of course, for his efforts in bundling Braves games and college wet t-shirt contests. And what an unreal price, too! Fifty cents for general admission to the Braves take on the Cubbies, and then you get to take in a wet t-shirt contest AND a Miller beer party?

"A crowd of 11,451, assumedly mostly male, showed up to watch the rotten Braves (13-24) take on the Chicago Cubs. Or at least that’s what they told their wives and girlfriends. But rain threatened the whole thing; for two hours, everyone sat around—interesting enough, no one left—before the first pitch finally took place.

"Somewhere around the sixth inning, the Braves announced that registration for the contest was under away, to be done in full view of the fans so they can see the pretty girls sign up; it took a while for the first woman to rev up the courage and walk to the table, but once she did, 42 others followed."

This Ted Turner was a genius. A true genius. No wonder he was so beloved. All you get nowadays are stupid "Bring Your Dog to the Ballpark" promotions and "Star Wars Night."

In fact, just to show you how miserable this era is compared to the 70s, the Atlanta Hawks were forced to cancel their "Magic City" promotion earlier this year because the NBA found it to be inappropriate.

And we had Ted Turner hosting wet t-shirt contests on COLLEGE NIGHT after games in the 70s! Again, we had it all, and we just pissed it away.

Anyway, some of Ted's other feats include temporarily taking over the team for one game in 1977 after firing his manager during a 16-game losing stream (they lost), and later that year loading up the entire team in a yacht so they could watch him compete in the America's Cup trials in Rhode Island.

For me, I will always remember him for the TBS superstation. Again, that's my childhood. Turning on a Braves game every night at 7:05 was the best. This is back before streaming, so you didn't really have access to much. I lived in Florida, so it was either the Marlins or Braves.

Riley Gaines fires back at Alex Cooper’s graphic dating advice: ‘It is not empowerment. It is poison’

Outkick podcast host Riley Gaines is taking aim at "Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper, calling the podcaster's graphic dating advice to women "poison" rather than empowerment.

"What's she peddling? It is not empowerment. It is poison," Gaines said on "The Riley Gaines Show" on Wednesday. "And I feel like it's time we say it out loud."

Gaines' comments follow a viral clip from Cooper's April 5 episode where the media mogul encouraged listeners to abandon traditional dating "rules" in favor of casual sex.

"So, kiss them the first date, f------ sleep with them the first night. Like, I don't care," Cooper told her audience. "You have to go based on what feels good to your body and what feels right to you."

This message isn't "liberating" but instead leads down a road of damaging consequences for young women, she argued.

Taking a look at four of the most overrated episodes of television in entertainment history

Allow me to start things off by wishing the iconic Sopranos episode, "Pine Barrens," a very happy 25th birthday.

On May 6, 2001, Chrissy and Paulie went from being a couple of made men to "just two a--holes stranded in the woods."

Many people cite the season three masterpiece as their all-time favorite Sopranos episode, but I've always found it to be a bit overrated.

So, what better way to celebrate one of the most revered hours of television ever than to go through what are, in my humble opinion, four of the most overrated TV episodes of all time.

The term "overrated" is subjective, obviously, and every episode on this list is an episode I really enjoy from some of my favorite TV shows ever, but they are also episodes that I think get held up on a pedestal a bit more than they should.

I'll stop with the rambling so we can get this show on the road.

4. "Dinner Party," The Office

One thing that almost all of the episodes have on this list is that they are very self-contained, and maybe it's just a personal preference, but I'm not a huge fan of "bottle episodes."

Comedy shows in and of themselves rarely have overarching plots, though The Office certainly has plenty of story arc to it.

"Dinner Party" is a departure from many of the plot-focused episodes in the earlier seasons of the show, and it focuses entirely on the characters.

It works, and it's an enjoyable slice of television, but I often hear people call this their favorite episode of The Office, and that's likely because of one thing: the pervasiveness of "meme culture."

As far as memes go, "Dinner Party" is one of the strongest of a show that is chock-full of meme-worthy episodes.

From "snip snap" to the tiny TV, this episode has about as many GIFs to its name as any half-hour of network television, but it almost feels like the quotes are more memorable than the episode as a whole.

If reading all that made you mad, you might want to turn back now, because it gets a lot worse from here.

3. "The Rains of Castamere," Game of Thrones

Oh, boy! I can feel the flames from the angry mob rising as I type.

One thing Game of Thrones did with aplomb, at least in the earlier seasons, was set up an entire season's worth of events for one big payoff.

Season one had the death of Ned Stark come completely out of left field after he discovered the truth about the Lannister family, while season two built up the battle at King's Landing in Blackwater.

By the time season three rolls around, it feels like there needs to be one hell of a payoff to top the first two penultimate episodes of their respective seasons.

Before I even started watching Game of Thrones, people who had already finished the series warned me about "Rains of Castamere."

I wasn't given any spoilers, but I was told this was the episode that changed everything, and that I'll never be the same after this hour of television.

When Ned Stark gets his head lopped off in season one's "Baelor," I remember being shocked, while also thinking, "Man! I can't wait to see what 'Rains of Castamere' has in store."

And, to be honest, maybe I'm a victim of something being overhyped and underdelivering, but the deaths of Robb and Catelyn Stark, along with Robb's wife and unborn child, just didn't have the same payoff.

Killing off a man who was essentially the main character, by most fantasy trope standards, in the first season was bold and subverted expectations, but it made any twist afterwards feel secondary by comparison.

I know George R.R. Martin and the producers didn't write all of these stories with that in mind, but it definitely tamped down a lot of the excitement I had going into "Rains of Castamere."

It might be unfair to dock this episode for the hype being heaped onto it, and maybe I missed out on the thrill of seeing it fresh for the first time, but "Rains of Castamere" is far from the best episode of Game of Thrones, despite what many may say.

2. "The Contest," Seinfeld

One thing Seinfeld did throughout its run is tackle taboo topics while making them palatable for network television audiences, and "The Contest" might be the best example of this.

In this season-four fan favorite, Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer all see who can last the longest without "treating their body like an amusement park," if you catch my drift.

The episode is full of hilarious sight gags and iconic lines, but much like with "Dinner Party," the quotes have almost taken on a life of their own.

For example, I bet you forgot the B-plot of this episode involved Elaine meeting JFK Jr.

Either way, the episode won an insane amount of awards for its clever writing and it is cited by numerous publications as one of the best episodes in the history of television, and that's where the problems lie for me.

It's a great episode, a classic, even. But I have a hard time calling this "one of the best episodes of television ever."

It's not even the best episode of Seinfeld from season four, as classics like "The Outing" and "The Junior Mint" are equally iconic without all the pomp and circumstance.

Maybe it's the hipster contrarian in me, but any time something gets overly lauded for its "clever writing," it's an instant turnoff.

You can take your Primetime Emmy and stick it where the sun don't shine!

1. "Pine Barrens," The Sopranos

It was the entire reason for writing this article, so you knew it was going to end up on here.

I can't think of a more overrated hour of television than "Pine Barrens."

To be fair, it's an intensely enjoyable episode, but this season-three one-off ends up right at the top of every Sopranos fans' "best of" list, and I just don't see it.

People talk about the humor from "Pine Barrens" as if it's something unique to this episode, but every episode of the show is so laugh-out-loud funny that I often pitch The Sopranos as a black comedy masquerading as a mob drama.

All that is to say, the humor present in "Pine Barrens" doesn't exactly set it apart from the rest of the heap.

Much like "Dinner Party," "Pine Barrens" is a true bottle episode, and really doesn't do too much to advance the plot in season three outside of Tony's deteriorating relationship with his goomar, Gloria.

The entire episode revolves around Chrissy and Paulie getting lost in the woods of southern New Jersey, and needing to survive until help arrives.

The premise and execution are fantastic, and the episode is admittedly humorous, but as is the case with all the other entries on this list, the humor and quotes have taken on a life of their own.

Yes, "he was an interior decorator" is a funny line the first 100 times you hear it, but the Sopranos community is guilty of running that whole exchange into the ground.

"Pine Barrens" is a great episode to throw on when you want some "comfort food," but there are far better episodes of the show, and I've never understood the hype it has gotten over the last quarter century.

Okay, I admit I may have gotten a bit carried away with the headline. Yes, Hayden Panettiere is into women, but it might not be quite on the level of a "very important message" alert.

There's a chance I got caught up in the hype of the headlines about the 36-year-old actress being bisexual. There's also a chance that I lost sight of where this should be properly categorized. It happens. I'm human.

This is about selling books, which is a move I don’t entirely hate. It was in the process of writing the book, which comes out later this month, that the idea of talking about what goes on in her bedroom first crossed her mind, she told Us Weekly.

Panettiere, who was engaged to and has a child with former boxer Wladimir Klitschko, didn’t want to be one that was seen as "jumping on the bandwagon" when other celebrities were coming out as bisexual. She didn’t want to join in on the fad.

She wanted to wait until there were books to sell. She didn’t say that part, but it's a smart strategy and one that developed organically. Her most recent public relationship was with Brian Hickerson and ended in 2020.

"It took two years to write this book, and I did not know what I was going to feel comfortable touching on … and what stories were naturally going to come up, and the fact that that did come up, I was like, ‘Why not?’" she said.

"I’ve chosen to be completely brutally honest about this, and that’s something about me that I was never able to share with the world, because it was just never the right time."

Panettiere touched on it alright. She revealed that she's dated women in the past and that she has been "much more into women" than she is men, even at a young age.

What's your biggest gripe with Star Wars?

This is a few days late, but whatever. I was off yesterday, so we're doing it now.

After this class on Monday, I wrote about how nobody is watching Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy. Nobody. Nielsen came out with the most-streamed Star Wars movies and shows for last May 4th, and none of the sequels made the list. Not one.

I realize this is a niche topic, so feel free to skip on down to Cameron Brink if you don't care. I won't be offended. But, I am curious from our Star Wars fans in class ... where exactly do you think the franchise went off the rails? I ask because some radio show in St. Louis read my story, and now they're having me on the actual air at 2:30 p.m. today to talk about it.

Bold move by them, I know.

Anyway, I assume I'll talk about how terrible the final two installments were (that's an understatement), and how, frankly, exhausting the characters became. Remember that one time John Boyega, who played Finn, whined about how Disney didn't do his black character justice?

The band spent the next few years toiling away as a jazz fusion group, but when they finally decided to make a change and bring in a dedicated vocalist to allow Rolie to focus solely on keyboard duties, they had no idea the diminutive Steve Perry (no relation) would be the key to unlocking their success.

Every massive hit Journey has ever produced has been with Perry at the helm, and they certainly owe their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and millions of albums sold to their front man.

It could be argued Van Halen was the biggest act in the world by 1985, so it came as a complete shock when they decided to jettison their acrobatic lead singer and go back to the drawing board.

Enter Sammy Hagar, the fuzzy-headed solo act behind radio staples like "I Can't Drive 55" and "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy," and the rest is rock history.

With a slew of radio-friendly hits over the next decade, it's safe to say "Van Hagar" didn't miss a beat with the new guy behind the microphone.

I love both iterations of the band, and while it's hard to argue the band got "better" with Hagar in tow, they were certainly able to at least replicate their success from the '70s and early '80s.

Fleetwood Mac: Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham for Peter Green

Most of you reading this know Fleetwood Mac thanks to their monster pop efforts from the mid to late '70s like "Rumours" as well as their 1975 self-titled album.

What you may not know is the band started as a blues rock outfit in the late 60s with a man named Peter Green taking lead vocal duties.

FLEETWOOD MAC CO-FOUNDER HOLDS ONTO ‘FANTASY’ THAT STEVIE NICKS AND LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM WILL END FEUD

Green exited in 1970 and the band entered a transitional period before settling on the singer/songwriter duo of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

Nicks and Buckingham's penchant for brilliant and catchy melodies coupled with their creative and romantic tensions made Fleetwood Mac a musical tour de force, and the band became one of the most successful acts of the 1970s.

You couldn't go five minutes without hearing songs like "Go Your Own Way," "Dreams" or "Don't Stop" while flipping through your radio dial, and the addition of the on-again, off-again lovers is a big reason for that.

The Eagles: Joe Walsh for Bernie Leadon

The Eagles were already one of the most popular bands in America by 1975, so much so that they had a greatest hits album from that year that would go on to be one of the best-selling records of all time.

How do you improve upon that success?

Well, you go out and get Joe Walsh to replace one of your guitarists and then lay down what is, perhaps, the most iconic rock song in music history.

When tensions started to arise between guitarist and founding member Bernie Leadon and the rest of the group, The Eagles put out a "help wanted" sign and ended up with solo act Joe Walsh.

With Walsh on board, the quintet would release two of their most critically and commercially successful albums in their discography, "Hotel California" and "Long Run."

The title track for the former also contains one of the most recognizable guitar solos of the 20th century, courtesy of Walsh and Don Felder.

Just for that contribution alone, Walsh would have found his way onto this list.

Pink Floyd: David Gilmour for Syd Barrett

If there was one band who got mentioned more than any other in the comments section of our previous article, it was Pink Floyd.

I caught a lot of flak for not including them (though if you took the time to watch our video, we included them in our honorable mentions, but I digress), so here I am to make amends.

It was a crying shame not including the great David Gilmour in our article of band replacements, because he might be the most notable of them all.

Never has there been a more drastic change in trajectory for a band than when Gilmour stepped in for the mercurial Syd Barrett.

Under Barrett's lead, the band was a psychedelic outfit that had potential but was a little too eclectic to ever make it to the universal heights they would achieve in their later years.

Gilmour's iconic guitar sound and smooth vocals paired perfectly with the songwriting chops of bassist Roger Waters, and although the two can't stand each other, they made some of the most iconic music in history.

Pink Floyd is arguably one of the most popular and influential rock bands of all time, and they wouldn't hold that distinction if it weren't for the addition of David Gilmour.

I will take my lumps like a man for not including this one on our list. Gilmour is a legend and deserves his place among the pantheon of great rock replacements.

If we're going to have looksmaxxing, we might as well have ballmaxxing too, am I right? To be clear, I'm not advocating that either should be a thing, but since nobody is putting a stop to the one, why not have the other?

Looksmaxxing is a bizarre "online self-improvement practice," according to Wikipedia. It's focused on the process of maximizing one's physical attractiveness. Now ballmaxxing is slightly different from that.

Ballmaxxing is all about going for the biggest balls possible. Why? Who really knows, but it's here and, according to Men's Health, there are some who have been wrapped up in the pursuit of bigger balls for many years.

A 57-year-old man by the name of Marcus told the men's lifestyle magazine that he's been obsessed with making his balls bigger for decades. It's a "passion he thinks grew out of the comic books he’d read as a child."

By his own measurements, his scrotum is "bigger than a mango" at 14.5 inches. He has managed to grow it to that size by injecting a surgical lubricant called Surgilube.

Why? He's not sure. But he's learned a few things along the way. He said, "I'm astonished at how flexible the testicles are. They just expand."

Fascinating. Not only that there's someone out there doing that, but that he's not alone. Men's Health reports there's a subreddit for "saline inflation" that has more than 8,700 members.

They are, of course, sharing their own ballmaxxing journeys with one another. A journey described by Jack, 31, who told Men's Health, "Nothing really matches experiencing it yourself."

The blue-collar worker added, "You have to talk yourself into doing it, find the time, get everything prepped, and then sit there for anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half while it takes effect."

There's a "burning sensation" that is apparently part of the whole experience. An experience that has been described as "electrifying, addictive, euphoric and transcendental."

Perez Hilton heaps praise on Ivanka Trump, takes swipe at Kardashians during appearance on Tomi Lahren's show

Internet celebrity gossip hound Perez Hilton is about to take heat from the LIBS over this one.

During an appearance on the "Tomi Lahren Is Fearless" podcast, the 48-year-old single father of three — who has said some nasty things about Donald Trump throughout his career – heaped praise on Ivanka Trump and even Donald on a matter close to Hilton's heart.

"I have two daughters and a son, and I wish and I pray that my daughters grow up to be like Ivanka Trump," Hilton told Lahren.

After years of offhand comments about the Trump family, it seems that fatherhood has softened Hilton. Based on what he told Lahren this week, his perspective on Ivanka has evolved.

Possibly to prove that he hasn't lost his fastball ripping on celebrities, Hilton then took a swipe at the Kardashians. The gossip hound told Lahren that it was now his mission to live like an "old school conservative father" who helps his kids with homework and disciplines his kids when they need correction.

"It's that Cuban Catholic in me," he noted. "Like even when we're at home, I won't let my daughters wear bikinis. One pieces. My daughter's turning 11 next week. Bikinis? No. No way. No. Like like I said, I want to raise like an Ivanka Trump, not a Kardashian Jenner."

Weeks after bullfighter suffered perforated rectum, another was gored in groin and required emergency surgery

It's not a great time to be a bullfighter. Getting gored is part of what you sign up for, but the occupational hazard is one that those who are crazy enough to step into the ring hope are few and far between.

They're also hoping that the occasional goring isn't one that does too much damage. That hasn't been the case over the last few weeks. The bulls' horns are finding some sensitive areas and causing some damage.

In April, Jose Antonio Morante de la Puebla aka the "King of Bullfighters," ended up in the hospital after suffering a perforated rectum. The warning shot delivered to a legend by one of the bulls wasn’t enough to avoid another disaster just a couple of weeks later.

If it was me, I'd be extra cautious before stepping into the ring and going one-on-one with these bulls. A horn up the ass isn’t something I'm all that interested in experiencing. Neither is one to the groin.

I'm not saying that Alberto Duran didn’t receive the memo, nor am I claiming he wasn't being cautious. I'm just reporting the facts. Those facts, according to the Daily Mail, are that he ended up needing emergency surgery on his testicles after being gored in the groin.

The 36-year-old was in the qualifying round of the Copa Chenel bullfighting tournament on Sunday in Valdemoro, Spain, when disaster struck. He was lifted in the air by the horn to the groin after the bull he was facing off with turned toward him unexpectedly.

The reaction from the crowd tells you all you need to know about what took place.

Duran managed to run away from the bull and was rushed to the hospital where he reportedly underwent emergency surgery for a serious injury to his testicles.

He later required a second surgery after doctors found a blood clot in one of his legs. He's in stable and improving condition in the ICU. Talk about a tough way to earn a living.

A horn to the rectum or the testicles makes that ergonomic chair and optional standing desk requirement look silly. That's not to say that back pain is anything to play around with. Trust me, I know it's not.

Happy Tuesday, you fine people. I have just returned from a girls' trip to Savannah, Georgia.

A real girls' trip — not the kind Dianna Russini takes, where there are no girls but there is a married NFL head coach. It was a great time celebrating one of my high school best friends, who never got to have a bachelorette party because her original one was canceled (thanks, COVID rules) in 2020.

Except now we're all old and married so instead of a bachelorette, we called it a "wives party."

On Saturday, we signed up for a walking history tour. Unfortunately, it poured down rain the entire time. But like the U.S. Postal Service, we persisted. And I'm glad we did.

In all seriousness, if you like to nerd out a little bit, you need to check out Genteel & Bard's Savannah History Walking Tour and ask for David. We learned so much about the city, the houses, murder most foul, all sorts of stuff I never knew before. I cannot recommend it enough.

I cannot say the same about the rooftop slide at Electric Moon.

The Met Gala never disappoints

Last night was the Met Gala. You know, the annual douche parade where celebrities deck themselves out in the most ridiculous costumes imaginable and circle jerk over how rich they are.

I love it.

The theme of the 2026 Met Gala was "Costume Art" with a dress code of "Fashion Is Art." Which feels pretty open-ended, if we're being honest.

Now, I don't pretend to know anything about high fashion. But it seems pretty clear to me that no matter what the theme of the night is, the celebrities are just going to wear whatever the heck they want anyway with absolutely no discernible cohesion. Or maybe I'm too much of a simple-minded peasant to understand.

Anyway, let's take a look at some of this year's show-stoppers, complete with my expert commentary.

Listen, this might be an unpopular opinion in OutKick-land, but I actually really like Angel Reese. I think she's beautiful, very savvy at marketing and branding, and when I interviewed her at All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, she could not have been more kind.

That said, this dress looks like she just pulled the duvet off her hotel bed and tied it around her waist. Hair and makeup are on point, though.

Madonna rolled up with a whole model ship on her head.

I will give her credit, though, for actually taking the theme seriously. This look was supposed to emulate a 1945 painting by Leonora Carrington called "The Temptation of St. Anthony. Fragment II." And she pretty much nailed it.

However, Met Gala tickets reportedly cost $100,000 each this year. And I need to know whether Madonna was required to purchase one for each of the seven women she brought to hold her veil.

Rachel Zegler, what are you doing with your face?

No matter the theme, no matter the occasion. The Kardashian-Jenners do not miss an opportunity to wear a corset that squeezes their internal organs to their absolute limits.

I do love that Kylie probably told her team "Fashion is art? Find me an artwork that's naked!" RIP to her eyebrows, though.

A 6-year-old version of me would have lost her mind over a dress that blows bubbles.

Someone on Instagram said Cardi B's dress looked like hemorrhoids, and I can't unsee it.

OK this one was actually really cool! And I love that Sabrina didn't go full-on clown makeup like she usually does. (Yes, this is still a lot of makeup, but it's nowhere close to what she wears for shows.)

Anyway, here's some more.

Haley Cavinder puts Jake Ferguson through Pilates hell

The Cavinder twins are athletes and Sports Illustrated swimsuit models. They have to keep their bodies in tip-top shape. And according to their social media, they do so through a combination of strength training, cardio and Pilates.

Speaking of Pilates, Haley Cavinder decided she was sick of her NFL fiancé, Jake Ferguson, not taking her workouts seriously. So she made him try Reformer Pilates. And he... struggled.

I've done plenty of Pilates in my life. And I can tell you that a Pilates studio would never allow someone to stand on the Reformer in their very first class. Major liability.

Still, 244-pound, 6-foot-5 Jake Ferguson might be able to run a 4.81-second 40-yard dash and jump 31.5 inches. But he clearly needs to work on his balance and flexibility.

And now maybe he'll stop giving Haley a hard time.

Skydiver suffers wardrobe malfunction

Before I went hang gliding for the first time last weekend, I asked my husband, "What do you think I'm supposed to wear for something like this?" He had no advice except that I should probably wear something with long sleeves because a) I'm always cold and b) it's probably a little chilly soaring through the air at 1,500 feet.

Turns out, this was great advice. I was shivering the whole time.

All of that to say there really is no specific hang gliding attire. There is, however, a suggested dress code for skydiving. And if you're a well-endowed woman, that includes one very important garment: a sports bra.

A 26-year-old woman named Chanell 't Zand learned that lesson the hard way.

Channell deployed the parachute AND the air bags.

I'll see myself out.

Do you share a bed with your dog?

I came across an interesting discussion on the Post Moves podcast (hosted by WNBA legend Candace Parker and Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston) about whether dogs should be allowed to sleep with you in the bed. Candace and Aliyah both have dachshunds (although Candace mentioned she has two more dogs as well), and they answered with a resounding YES.

Now, I am a dog person through and through. If you've been reading my work for longer than five minutes, you know this about me. You probably also know I'm obsessed with my 2-year-old German shepherd, Rocky. So it might surprise you to find out that... no, my husband and I do not allow him on the bed.

My previous dog, a 45-pound mutt, was allowed on the bed. But an 80-pound heavy-shedding, can-barely-sit-still fur missile is a different story. Even with a king-size bed, that's a tight squeeze. We would get no sleep.

He is allowed on all other furniture, though, and he pretty much owns our sectional. So there's no need to cue up the sad Sarah McLachlan music for the poor guy.

CL in CT Writes: I know you are a huge dog person and wanted to share a few pics of my 5-year-old Golden Retriever Gus. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma back in October. The prognosis for that cancer is pretty bleak. So we did what the doctors recommended and had the leg amputated and rounds of chemo. He had to have a second surgery as another cancer spot was found after the rear leg amputation.

He was also accepted into a trial program with Yale University for cancer therapy. He has had 2 rounds and has not missed a beat! Thought you might like to see a few pics of my cancer fighter!

I certainly understand how tough it is to watch your pup battle cancer. They are such perfect souls — they don't deserve that awful disease. Especially at just 5-years-old.

Gus is lucky to have you, CL, and we are all rooting for him to come out of this like a champ!

A Sevierville vacation was the a favorite for our family. We rented a cabin on the lake nearby. Yes, the zip lines were the highlight. Convincing myself to flip upside down for a long zip line run was a fun thrill at 56 years old.

As to witches, listen to the famous Catholic Priest and exorcist, Fr. Chad Ripperger: Levels of Spiritual Warfare & Our Lady - January 25th 2024. He explains three levels of people involved in the occult and mentions those in the public versus the really serious ones. Start with the section from the 55 to 57 minute mark. If you want to have your mind blown, listen to the entire 1 hour 20 minutes someday.

Healthy huskies lay off the bad cholesterol

Elliott C. Writes: I'm thinking about bacon. I once forgot to pull bacon out of the freezer and only had 3 pieces or bacon for breakfast 1 Saturday. Flipping bacon often and cooking on a medium heat helps keep the bacon flat. I hate when you buy a 4 lb pack of bacon at Costco and 1 pack is a really bad cut.

Rescue beagle is living the good life

Rob R. Writes: I love your column on OutKick! I attached two photos of our Beagle, Mason. He was a rescue, but not just any rescue. He was from Envigo -a medical testing lab, which only used Beagles. I attached a story so you can hopefully pass on in one of columns about how these dogs were treated and how so many wonderful people did everything they could to rescue and find wonderful homes for them. Our Mason is doing well and although he's still not a big fan of people, it was one of the best decisions to get him!

We used to have a proper society. That's unfortunately a thing of the past. Will we ever regain what we've lost? It's hard to say, but the odds of that happening anytime soon aren’t looking great.

Look no further than a break-in over the weekend in Boston. The intruder entered the home and, instead of what we used to call a standard breaking and entering, this guy made himself at home.

He didn’t appear to be there to steal anything of value. He wasn’t there to pull off an armed robbery or any other crimes we've become accustomed to when someone enters a home uninvited.

The man police have identified as Jainel Roman, 28, of Boston was in the Beacon Hill residence apparently to make himself at home. The resident told police that he woke up around 8 a.m. Saturday and went downstairs.

Pretty typical stuff for a Saturday morning except for the fact that there was a naked man on the couch in the living room "smoking what appeared to be a crack pipe," a report from the Boston Police Department stated.

He turned around, went back upstairs and left the naked intruder on his couch. He secured his kids, then called 911. When the officers arrived, they found Roman, still naked, sitting on the toilet in a second-floor bathroom.

See what I mean. The utter disrespect shown here is insane. If you're going to break in, you can't then make yourself at home. That's beyond any sort of proper criminal etiquette.

The kids were home. They don’t need their Saturday morning ruined by a naked stranger on the couch smoking what appears to be a crack pipe and they certainly don't need that guy clogging up their second-floor toilet either.
