MIKE DAVIS: Secure the White House and build the ballroom before someone gets killed

We all watched in horror as President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, many Cabinet secretaries, dozens of members of Congress and others scrambled for their safety at the Washington Hilton Hotel for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, an annual D.C. tradition. Deranged leftist Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old California man who donated to Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign, tried to barge in armed with multiple guns and the alleged purpose of assassinating Trump administration officials. Allen came quite close to accomplishing his alleged mission, and we must never allow another Allen to strike. Such events should occur at a secure White House ballroom, not a hotel that is open to guests and the public.

Allen appeared to have had a simple plan. He checked into the Hilton and allegedly brought along a shotgun, handguns and knives. He went to his room and waited. Then, he took a stairwell down to the floor where the dinner was underway. Authorities say he charged at a Secret Service checkpoint near the ballroom where 3,000 people were jammed in like sardines. The checkpoint was the location of magnetometers designed to screen for guns and other weapons. Allen allegedly began firing, apparently intending to shoot his way through the checkpoint so that he could enter the ballroom and cause mass casualties. The courageous Secret Service agents stopped him, and one heroic agent was shot in his vest. That agent will recover and deserves the eternal gratitude of the American people for his sacrifice.

It is a miracle that other injuries did not occur. Aside from the gunfire, people could have been injured in the rush to flee the room. Law enforcement whisked dignitaries away when the shots began, and many people ducked under tables. With 3,000 people, however, it is easy to imagine how many could have run for safety, trampling each other in the process. Continuing these events at hotels is untenable, and Trump-deranged individuals must grasp this simple point before fatalities occur.

President Trump plainly understands the point. That is why he has begun construction on a ballroom at the White House, the most secure building in the world. Many events have occurred in White House tents, making attendees susceptible to sniper fire like that which occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, during a Trump rally in July 2024. The proposed ballroom would have an underground bunker and bulletproof glass to add to the elaborate security measures that already are in place at the White House. There would be no risk of another murderous hotel guest’s barreling toward a checkpoint and shooting at Secret Service agents. If Allen had begun his alleged rampage earlier, he could have committed a mass murder by shooting attendees as they waited to go through the magnetometer. None of this lunacy would have occurred at a ballroom in the White House.

DAVID MARCUS: TO BURNISH TRUMP'S LEGACY, WE NEED TO STOP NAMING THINGS AFTER HIM

Alison Hoagland is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and a Trump-deranged individual who thinks that she can dictate White House construction procedures. The proposed ballroom is privately funded. Construction crews have already torn down the area where the ballroom will sit. Hoagland, however, has decided to attempt to stop the construction in court. She claims that she occasionally walks by the White House and that viewing the area harms her personally and professionally. This lawsuit should have been dismissed, but Judge Richard Leon, one of President George W. Bush’s worst appointees, shockingly let it proceed and issued an injunction against further construction.

Article III of the Constitution requires that a plaintiff have standing to bring a lawsuit. A plaintiff must show that she either has been injured or that she will be in a concrete way, that the defendant has caused or will cause the injury, and that a court can redress the injury. Hoagland’s only supposed injury is her displeasure at having to look at a construction site whenever she occasionally walks past the White House. Leon incredibly accepted this farcical claim as sufficient for standing. If Hoagland’s risible assertion suffices, we may as well get rid of standing because anyone can be offended over anything. Courts would be deluged with lawsuits from gadflies who want to whine over any perceived slight, no matter how petty, if Hoagland’s theory becomes the law of the land.

The Trump Justice Department appealed Leon’s laughable injunction to the D.C. Circuit. Two leftist judges asked Leon to clarify the scope of it. Judge Neomi Rao, a potential Supreme Court justice, correctly dissented, brilliantly articulating why the case should fail on standing grounds. After Leon’s clarification, the appellate court unanimously put his asinine injunction on hold pending a decision on the merits. The panel will hear oral argument in June, but Hoagland’s silly suit should stop now. To that end, the Justice Department has written to request that the National Trust for Historic Preservation drop the case. If it does not, the government will seek dismissal.

Especially after the horrific events of Saturday night, the Trump-deranged leftists should drop the suit. If they do not, Leon should dismiss it. Given how shameless these people are, however, the odds of either event occurring are slim. The D.C. Circuit should rule rapidly after oral argument that Hoagland’s claim falls far short of what is necessary to establish Article III standing. Judge Rao correctly opined that existing law authorizes the construction of the ballroom. Congress should leave no doubt. As Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman—seemingly the only Democrat left in Congress who possesses some common sense and decency—urged, it is time to build the ballroom.

Congress could authorize the construction explicitly in short order. Congress had no trouble acting swiftly to order the release of the Epstein files. Disgracefully, many Trump-deranged congressional Democrats likely will obstruct any effort to authorize the ballroom because they have no regard for the safety of President Trump and anyone in his orbit.

In not even two years, Trump has faced three assassination attempts: the Butler event; the attempted assassination at his Palm Beach golf club by Ryan Routh, who is now serving a life sentence thanks to brilliant Judge Aileen Cannon; and the near-massacre on Saturday night. Leftists have tried to imprison, bankrupt, de-bank, de-platform and murder Trump. Insane rhetoric, such as baseless and malicious allegations that Trump is a pedophile anda grave threat to democracy, has caused people to lose their minds. These radicals have caused a culture of assassination; no other president has been targeted in this way. It is time to stop the lunacy, and a good start would be to facilitate the building of the White House ballroom. Given their past disgraceful behavior, however, Democrats likely will continue their dangerous resistance. The task thus falls to constitutionalist judges like Judge Rao to stop this insanity. Failure to do so eventually will lead to fatalities perpetrated by future Democrat assassins in the mold of Allen, Routh, and Matthew Crooks, the Butler shooter.

Stop the insanity once and for all. Enough is enough. Build the damn ballroom.

SPLC saw revenue surge after Charlottesville rally as DOJ alleges informant ties

The Southern Poverty Law Center more than doubled its revenue in the months following the deadly 2017 Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally — a surge now drawing renewed scrutiny after a Department of Justice indictment alleged the group paid an informant tied to the event’s organizers.

The 2017 rally, which left one woman dead, became a cultural flashpoint over White nationalism and political violence, driving widespread condemnation and a surge in donations to civil rights groups, including the SPLC. The fallout also shaped the 2020 presidential election, as President Donald Trump’s response — including his remarks about "very fine people" on both sides — was hammered by the left, with former President Joe Biden later citing Charlottesville as a reason he entered the race.

"For years, the Left used the 'Jews will not replace us' 2017 Unite the Right rally as proof of rampant antisemitism on the Right. Turns out, it was underwritten by the Leftist SPLC, which allegedly funded organizers, supervised racist posts, and coordinated transportation. Wild," journalist Batya Ungar-Sargon wrote on X, one of many conservatives who argue the allegations raise questions about whether the SPLC’s use of paid informants may have played a role in amplifying or facilitating extremist activity.

According to the indictment from the Department of Justice, the SPLC paid an informant network dating back to the 1980s, including a "covert network" that was associated with or infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan and other groups at the organization’s direction.

One source, identified as "F-37," was part of an "online leadership chat group that planned the 2017 ‘Unite the Right’ event."

"[F-37] attended the event at the direction of the SPLC. F-37 made racist postings under the supervision of the SPLC and helped coordinate transportation to the event for several attendees. Between 2015 and 2023, the SPLC secretly paid F-37 more than $270,000.00."

A spokesperson for the Southern Poverty Law Center told 91�� Digital the organization is reviewing the charges and called the allegations "false," defending its work monitoring extremist groups and saying its use of informants "saved lives." The group said it plans to vigorously defend itself and continue its mission of combating hate.

While the indictment alleges the SPLC paid informants tied to individuals involved in White supremacist groups, including organizers of the Unite the Right rally, 91�� found the organization’s revenue surged in the immediate aftermath of the Charlottesville violence.

VIRGINIA SLAMMED FOR ‘TRULY DEMONIC’ ELECTION THAT EXCUSED POLITICAL VIOLENCE TO SPITE TRUMP, CRITICS SAY

In 2016, total public support and net assets topped $51 million, while by October 2017, that figure had grown to $133 million, a surge that followed the Unite the Right rally and was driven in part by donations from prominent public figures, including George Clooney and Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Clooney said at the time that he and wife Amal "wanted to add our voice and financial assistance to the ongoing fight for equality… there are no two sides to bigotry and hate."

Cook, who also donated to the Anti-Defamation League after the rally, said that what "occurred in Charlottesville has no place in our country. Hate is a cancer, and left unchecked it destroys everything in its path; its scars last generations."

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Resorts also donated $4,484.50 at the time, according to records uncovered by 91��.

Following the 2017 rally, national Democrats latched on to anti-hate messaging proliferated by the SPLC and others.

Many critics lambasted Trump’s initial reaction, in which he observed that some people present before the rally turned violent were opposing the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue.

"I was talking about people that went because they felt very strongly about the monument to Robert E. Lee, a great general. Whether you like it or not, he was one of the great generals," Trump said.

Biden said at the 2024 Democratic National Convention that he "ran for president in 2020 because of what I saw in Charlottesville."

"Extremists coming out of the woods carrying torches, their veins bulging from their necks, carrying Nazi swastikas and chanting the same exact antisemitic bile that was heard in Germany in the early ’30s," Biden said, before characterizing Trump’s comments as an endorsement of White supremacy and violence.

Trump has since referred to criticism of his remarks as the "‘very fine people’ hoax."

The 11-count indictment charges the SPLC with wire fraud, bank fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering, offenses that could carry significant financial penalties, restitution and forfeiture if proven in court.

‘Martyrs’: Michigan Dems nominate Hezbollah-praising candidate after ousting Jewish regent

A University of Michigan Board of Regents member was ousted after Michigan Democrats selected a candidate who shared social media posts praising Hezbollah as the party's nominee.

Amir Makled, a trial lawyer, bested incumbent Regent Jordan Acker, who is Jewish, for the Democratic Party's nomination at the state party's convention over the weekend, sparking criticism from a former leader of the state's Democratic Party.

More than a week before Michigan's Democratic Convention, the Detroit News reported that Makled had shared and later deleted posts on X praising Hezbollah leaders Hassan Nasrallah and Abu Ali Khalil, who were both killed in Israeli airstrikes. In both posts Makled shared, Nasrallah and Khalil are dubbed "martyrs."

The Democratic nominee also shared a now-deleted post from Candace Owens in which she called Israelis "demons" who "lie, steal, cheat, murder and blackmail."

Brandon Dillon, the former head of Michigan's Democratic Party, penned an opinion piece in the Detroit News criticizing Makled's candidacy that was published just days before Makled won the party's nomination. Dillon said Makled is not a Democrat and that his social media behavior reflects "a pattern of extremism and bigotry."

"These are not isolated missteps or comments taken out of context," Dillon wrote in the Detroit News. "They reflect a broader pattern of poor judgment that should raise serious concern."

In his acceptance speech for the party's nomination, Makled gave a nod to students involved in anti-Israel protests that formed on the University of Michigan's campus in the wake of the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel.

"To these students, the students who spoke up, the students who organized, the students who refused to let anyone tell them that their education wasn't worth fighting for, you all reminded us what a public university is supposed to be," Makled said.

Makled, who legally represented University of Michigan students involved in anti-Israel campus protests, had previously called for the university system to divest from Israel.

The anti-Israel protests which formed at the University of Michigan led to reports of antisemitic attacks against Jewish students. The University of Michigan was one of 60 universities notified by the Department of Education that it was being investigated for violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for failing to properly address antisemitic harassment and discrimination.

In December 2024 — just months before the Education Department shared its notice with the University of Michigan — the car belonging to outgoing Regent Acker was vandalized. The words "Divest... Free Palestine" and an inverted triangle, a reference to Hamas, were spray-painted in red across Acker's vehicle.

At the time of the attack, Acker said it was the third time that year he'd been victimized by anti-Israel vandals.

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., delivered a high-energy, revival sermon-style speech at the Michigan Democratic Convention, shouting and gesturing as he urged Democrats to become "foot soldiers for democracy" and warned that "darkness and wind" are sweeping the nation.

Booker was one of several out-of-state leaders, including former Vice President Kamala Harris and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, to participate in the Michigan Democratic Convention. All three have been floated as possible contenders for the 2028 presidential election.

Booker spoke for roughly 25 minutes and at several points bellowed at the crowd, adopting a poetic cadence and word choice.

"Ladies and gentlemen, there is a storm in our nation," Booker exclaimed, finishing his speech. "There is darkness and wind. People are getting hurt. What we need is not from on high. We need foot soldiers of our democracy who in times of trial, are willing to stand up."

Booker then announced that it was time for Democrats to "redeem the dream of America."

Booker, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2020, used the speech as an opportunity to introduce himself to Michigan voters, sharing his career in politics and his family ties to the Great Lakes State.

At one point, he expressed his dismay with voters who opted out of voting for presidential candidates Hillary Clinton or Vice President Kamala Harris because they disagreed "on ten percent of her views."

"Well, you may disagree with her on 10% of her views, but you let someone get in office who you disagree with on everything," Booker railed. "You let somebody get in office who is locking up our children. You let somebody in office who's taking away our health care. You let somebody in office who's taken away workers rights. You let somebody in office who got rid of the Department of Education."

He then suggested that Democratic voters in Michigan turn the Michigan hand — a reference to the state's shape — into the "Michigan fist."

"I don't want the Michigan hand after your August primary, I want the Michigan fist," Booker shouted. "I want you all to unite. I want you to punch a hole in the wall of resistance. I want that Michigan fist. I want some unity."

However, former MSNBC commentator Medhi Hasan took issue with Booker's assertion about Democratic voters who didn't vote for Harris in 2024. Hasan said that Booker's characterization places the blame on voters for a Democratic loss rather than the party platform.

"I tried to tell people who didn’t vote Dem in 2024 ‘to teach Democrats a lesson’ that sadly Democrats will never learn that lesson," Hasan said on X, sharing a video of Booker speaking. "Here’s Booker simply attacking and mocking people who didn’t show up to vote Dem. It’s always the voters’ fault, never the Dems or their candidates."

Other critics poked fun at Booker's emphatic deliverance.

"Calm down, Spartacus," wrote America First Works, a non-profit group and the advocacy arm of the America First Policy Institute.

Democrat Michigan Senate candidate Mallory McMorrow is getting dragged on social media after dancing into the state Democratic Party Convention on Sunday alongside a marching band — a flashy entrance that drew parallels to viral moments from former Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2019 presidential campaign.

"Mallory McMorrow walked into the second half of today’s convention flanked by DrumKINGZ and a whole lot of supporters. Many are calling it McMentum," her campaign wrote in a post to X, accompanied by the video.

The entrance comes as McMorrow competes in a crowded Democratic primary to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, with critics quickly portraying the moment as political theater and comparing it to Harris’ 2019 campaign optics.

"Following right in the footsteps of the queen [of] losing primaries," one account wrote alongside an image of Harris.

MICHIGAN SENATE CANDIDATE RESPONDS TO BACKLASH OVER KHAMENEI COMMENTS, CALLS IRAN CONFLICT ‘WAR WE DON’T NEED’

Harris had a viral moment in 2019 when she joined a string of students who were energetically dancing to a marching band in Iowa as she looked to lock down the Democratic nomination that year. She was also spotted dancing with a marching band at another campaign event in South Carolina that same year.

"This is Mallory McMorrow. She’s running for U.S. Senate in Michigan. This is how she entered the Democratic Party Convention The theater kids are at it again…" popular conservative X account Libs of TikTok said in a post highlighting the video.

"That's what you get when you don't have a message," Abdul El-Sayed, one of McMorrow's primary challengers, reportedly told local media of the scene.

Neither McMorrow's office nor Kamala Harris responded immediately to requests for comment from 91�� Digital.

DEM SENATE CANDIDATE'S JOB LISTING INVITES APPLICANTS OF ANY 'CITIZENSHIP STATUS' TO APPLY FOR TOP ROLE

McMorrow is fending off challengers such as El-Sayed, a former physician, and Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., a four-term member of the House of Representatives.

Stevens leads the trio in fundraising, reporting $8.8 million in contributions at the close of March. But she’s followed narrowly by McMorrow’s $8.6 million and El-Sayed’s $7.6 million, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

As a former small business owner and Michigan state senator, McMorrow has tried to stake out a lane between Stevens, who is often seen as the more establishment-oriented candidate, and El-Sayed, the progressive candidate who has emphasized policies like Medicare for All.

In her time at the state level, McMorrow worked to strengthen unions and raise wages, eliminated the retirement tax for seniors and repealed Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban, according to her biography page.

"Mallory will bring that same determination to deliver for Michigan families in the U.S. Senate," the website reads.

Left-wing activists heckle pro-Israel Democrat Haley Stevens at Michigan convention

Pro-Palestinian activists shouted down Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., as the U.S. Senate hopeful spoke at Michigan Democrats’ spring convention on Sunday.

When Stevens, a pro-Israel Democrat, walked on stage with a group of union employees, the crowd erupted with party activists heckling her over her support for Israel.

"Democrats, I love you, even when we disagree," the congresswoman said, but audience members continued to drown her out with boos and jeers.

DEMOCRATS TEAM UP WITH FAR-LEFT STREAMER WHO ONCE SAID ‘AMERICA DESERVED 9/11’

As Stevens departed the stage following her remarks, several attendees stood up, put their fists in the air and started to chant: "Shame on you."

The tense moment underscores the Democratic Party's race to the left, and how support for Israel has become a central flashpoint in Michigan's competitive three-way Democratic primary in a state with sizable Jewish and Arab constituencies.

Stevens has come under scathing criticism from progressive Democrats over her long-held pro-Israel stances and support from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Her primary competitors, by contrast, have leaned further left on the issue.

Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow have accused Israel of genocide and sworn off AIPAC and the pro-Israel lobby.

Stevens recently upset Michigan progressives by unequivocally rejecting the far-left online streamer Hasan Piker, who has a history of making antisemitic and pro-Hamas statements.

Piker has described some Orthodox Jews as "inbred," claimed the United States "deserved 9/11" and downplayed sexual violence that occurred during the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel. He has denied accusations of antisemitism, but continues to maintain that Hamas is better than Israel.

Stevens has warned about the political fallout for Democrats if the party embraces Piker, telling Jewish Insider, "Someone who’s campaigning with someone like that is not going to win in Michigan."

McMorrow, despite disavowing the pro-Israel stance, has also hammered El-Sayed for embracing Piker and has taken a tougher line against antisemitism than her left-wing foe.

Some attendees shouted "Abdul" when McMorrow exited the stage at the convention over the weekend, signaling support for the most radical Democrat candidate.

The swing state contest is viewed as a top pick-up opportunity for Republicans with former Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., who is endorsed by President Donald Trump, expected to cruise to the GOP nomination. Democrats are playing defense to keep the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., in the blue column.

The battleground race is one of three Senate contests rated as a "toss-up" by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Stevens, the only Democratic candidate in the race who has served in Congress, has been promoted by allies of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. TIME reported that Schumer has also opened the door to supporting McMorrow, though has continued to hold El-Sayed at arm's length.

Major city hikes hotel tax to nearly 20% as tourism bosses eye future events

The Chicago City Council has agreed to raise its tourist tax in an effort to grow traveler marketing programs.

The vote on Ordinance 2026-0022544 will raise the tax on hotel rooms within that district to 19% from the rate of 17.5% — which includes a combined city, county and state tax, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

The increase will be applied to hotel stays at properties in the downtown and surrounding areas that contain over 100 rooms.

The increase will apply to room rates at hotels with 100 or more rooms that agree to opt in.

The city council also passed the formation of the Tourism Improvement District (TID) — which will fund Choose Chicago, the city’s official destination marketing organization.

Revenue will be used for city marketing campaigns and to cover bid fees for conventions and major events.

Chicago is already targeting the Democratic National Convention, which requires a $1 million bid.

The Windy City previously hosted the DNC in August 2024.

Earlier this month, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) advanced bids from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver and Philadelphia.

Its advisory board is considering several factors, the DNC said — including a "commitment to selecting a city that shares Democratic values."

Mayor Brandon Johnson issued a press release after the City Council’s vote, praising the decision.

"Chicago is a premier city for tourism, business travelers, conventions and large-scale events," said Johnson.

"My administration will continue our collaboration with Choose Chicago, as we continue to build up Chicago’s tourism and hospitality industry while leveraging economic growth and development to continue building safe and affordable communities across our city," he added.

Choose Chicago president and CEO Kristen Reynolds said in a press release that this marks a "transformative moment" for the city.

She added, "This investment will allow us to amplify our marketing efforts, attract more conventions and events and ultimately deliver significant benefits to Chicago’s economy and communities."

Guy Chipparoni, chair of the Choose Chicago board of directors, said in a statement, "It sends a message to our competing cities that when it comes to attracting visitors, Chicago means business."

Reacting on social media to the news about the tax hike, one person wrote, "19% tax on a hotel room, making it the highest in the nation. Vacations can get pricey, especially for a family. How would this help tourism?"

Another X user wrote, "Democrats in Chicago will even dream up a breath tax. It's not far away."

Former Vice President Kamala Harris thanked her supporters for "standing up for our democracy" and the "rule of law" on Friday at the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) annual winter meeting in Los Angeles.

Harris, who became the party's 2024 presidential nominee without a primary election after former President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, said Democrats express gratitude toward her because she is the "public face of a lot of the work that we do."

"People then come up to me in various places, and when they thank me, they are thanking you for standing up for our democracy, for the rule of law, for values and principles, for community, for the breadth and depth of who we are with all of our beautiful differences as a nation," she said during her remarks.

Harris recently passed on launching a 2026 gubernatorial campaign in her home state of California, but is keeping the door wide open to a 2028 presidential run.

"Obviously, we must focus on the midterms," she said on Friday. "But Democrats, we must also have a clear vision for what comes after the midterms. And then after Trump. We need to answer the question. We need to answer the question: what comes next for our party and our democracy?"

Harris also took jabs at President Donald Trump, as well as his policies and his "Make America Great Again" movement.

President Donald Trump is considering holding a Republican National Convention ahead of the midterm elections, he announced Thursday.

Trump did not offer any details about where the convention would take place, or what would happen there, but he touted various statistics that have been beneficial for the Republican Party this year. The GOP is fighting to maintain control of both the House and Senate in 2026.

"The Republican Party is doing really well. Millions of people have joined us in our quest to MAKE AMERICA, GREAT AGAIN. We won every aspect of the Presidential Election and, based on the great success we are having, are poised to WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper. The results are incredible, a record pace!!! In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. It has never been done before. STAY TUNED!" he added.

4 KEY SENATE SEATS REPUBLICANS AIM TO FLIP IN 2026 MIDTERMS TO EXPAND THEIR MAJORITY

Historically, midterms have been tough elections for the party controlling the White House, typically losing roughly 25 seats in the House. Trump and the Republicans lost 41 House seats in the 2018 midterms.

Republican National Committee (RNC) chair Kiersten Pels, following Trump's announcement, told 91�� Digital that the president "is leading with bold, innovative ideas to energize our Party and keep us on the path to victory."

The president made his news the day after word that leaders at the rival Democratic National Committee (DNC) were also mulling the idea of holding a rare convention ahead of the midterms. The news was first reported by Axios.

"To showcase our tremendous candidates running up and down the ballot and harness the amazing grassroots energy we’re already seeing, several options are on the table for next year, including hosting a large-scale gathering before the midterms," DNC spokesperson Abhi Rahman told 91��.

Trump's talk of a national convention comes amid a war over redistricting across the country.

Texas passed a new congressional map eliminating five Democratic seats earlier this month. Blue states exploded in response, however, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom is working to adopt a map that eliminates five Republican seats in his state.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and other Democratic state leaders have also vowed to pick up the redistricting war, further confusing predictions for where 2026 could land.

Trump has also argued that crime will be a major focus in the midterm cycle, a theme he has hit heavily in recent days to drum up support for his controversial "federalization" push in Washington, D.C.

"The Republicans are the party that wants to stop crime," Trump said. "We're against crime."

"The Democrats like crime," he continued.

The president touted the success of his efforts in the nation's capital on Tuesday, telling reporters, "If I were a Democrat — governor or mayor or anybody — I'd call up President Trump and say, 'President Trump, we need your help. We saw what you've done in D.C. in a period of 12 days.'"

"This is 12 days. We haven't even started. This is going to be so safe. It'll be the safest place on Earth," he added.

The Democratic National Committee kicked off its annual summer meeting in Minneapolis with a "land acknowledgment" that included an assertion that the U.S. perpetuates a system of suppression.

"Let's talk about the land for a second," said Lindy Sowmick, treasurer of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) and self-described "Indigenous queer woman," after DNC Chairman Ken Martin introduced her to recite the acknowledgment.

"The DNC acknowledges and honors the Dakota Oyate – the Dakota people – who are the original stewards of the lands and waters of Minneapolis," Sowmick continued. "The Dakota cared for the lands, lakes and the Wakpa Tanka – the ‘Great River,’ the Mississippi River – for thousands of years before colonization. This land was not claimed, or traded – it's a part of a history of broken treaties and promises. And, in many ways, we still live in a system built to suppress Indigenous peoples' cultural and spiritual history."

Sowmick encouraged members of the Democratic Party to see the "land acknowledgment" as more than just "the checking of a box."

"As Democrats, I ask of every one of you to not allow land acknowledgments like these to simply be the checking of a box – be curious, ask questions, ensure our native neighbors are heard and work in partnership with your Indigenous communities," Sowmick urged the crowd Monday. "Honor the legacy of this land and its people by engaging today with each other with honesty, humility, respect and compassion."

Monday's comments came in front of more than 400 party officials from all 50 states who gathered at a downtown Minneapolis hotel for the annual summer meeting.

Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan abandons GOP to join Democratic Party

Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan announced he is leaving the GOP and joining the Democratic Party, a move he says has been a long time coming as he has butted heads with the Republican Party.

Duncan, who served as lieutenant governor as a Republican from 2019 until 2023, wrote in an op-ed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday that his path to becoming a Democrat began before President Donald Trump attempted to overturn his loss to former President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, which Duncan criticized at the time.

"My journey to becoming a Democrat started well before Donald Trump tried to steal the 2020 election in Georgia," Duncan wrote in the newspaper.

"There’s no date on a calendar or line in the sand that points to the exact moment in time my political heart changed, but it has," he continued. "My decision was centered around my daily struggle to love my neighbor, as a Republican."

GEORGIA GOP EXPELS FORMER LT. GOV. GEOFF DUNCAN FROM PARTY, CITING ALLEGED DISLOYALTY

Duncan pointed to several policy issues that played a part in his decision to change parties, criticizing Republicans for their handling of issues such as health care, Medicaid, gun safety, immigration and how to help poor people.

He said his time in office taught him the best way to "love my neighbor" is through public policy. Before his time as lieutenant governor, he served in the Georgia House from 2013 until 2017. He opted not to run for re-election as lieutenant governor in 2022.

The former Republican said GOP lawmakers have argued for decades that the solution to not having health insurance is to have a job, but noted that most uninsured people in the Peach State live in working households yet do not have insurance because of affordability or eligibility.

"So, the reality is they have a job, just the wrong job," Duncan wrote. "One that doesn't offer health insurance or generate enough spare money each month to afford their own health insurance plan."

Duncan also said the Trump-backed spending bill that was signed into law last month will leave Medicaid funding "in shambles," as it cuts hundreds of billions of dollars from the government program. He also criticized the measure for its cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, more commonly known as food stamps, and its impact on ensuring children do not go hungry at school.

Duncan pointed to polls showing support for gun control measures such as universal background checks and red-flag laws.

He also criticized the Trump administration's mass deportation immigration policies that he said "have turned into a lesson on how not to love your neighbor." He said that immigration policy should focus on securing the border, deporting those in the country illegally who have committed felonies, but that a path to citizenship should be created for other migrants in the U.S.

Duncan’s party switch comes after the Georgia Republican Party expelled him from the party earlier this year over alleged disloyalty. The party's resolution cited his endorsement of Biden in the 2024 presidential election and, once he dropped out, his endorsement of former Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as alleged efforts to undermine and sabotage some Republican candidates, including current Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and failed 2022 Senate candidate Herschel Walker.

The former Republican also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August in support of Harris.

Duncan has been a fierce critic of Trump and the Republican Party in recent years, particularly since the president’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss and the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

A Democratic National Committee panel voted to void its election of David Hogg as vice chair of the Democratic Party on Monday.

The initial vote comes after mounting internal criticism of Hogg, though party officials say the vote was based on a procedural challenge made in February claiming Hogg and another official were improperly elected. The DNC will vote later this year on whether to remove Hogg.

"Today, the DNC took its first steps to remove me from my position as Vice Chair At-Large. While this vote was based on how the DNC conducted its officers’ elections, which I had nothing to do with, it is also impossible to ignore the broader context of my work to reform the party which loomed large over this vote," Hogg said in a statement reacting to the vote.

"I ran to be DNC Vice Chair to help make the Democratic Party better, not to defend an indefensible status quo that has caused voters in almost every demographic group to move away from us," he added.

Monday's vote also ousted Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta as DNC vice chair. Christine Pelosi, a member of the credentials committee and daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., argued the vote was not in reaction to their performance.

"First, I want to say clearly and explicitly that this decision has nothing to do with the service of any DNC officer, especially [Hogg] or [Kenyatta]. This is about a violation of parliamentary procedure that was raised in a challenge filed back in February by another candidate for Vice Chair."

"I think I speak for all of us on the Committee when I say I hope both of these talented individuals put their names on the ballot again," she said. "We’ll move fast to get this resolved. I have total faith in our DNC members to review this issue and vote their conscience."

Carville criticized it as "abominable" and "jacka--ery of the highest level" for prioritizing pushing out Democrats over beating Republicans. Hogg shot back that the party is capable of both. Carville demanded Hogg focus on winning elections against the GOP.

Hogg insisted that the point of his strategy is to "win elections."

"It’s not to win an election in Queens which you don’t ever run against a Republican. It’s to help Democrats win elections."

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to mark her return to politics by co-hosting a Democratic Party fundraiser alongside DNC chair Ken Martin next month.

The New York Times reported on an invitation for the May 6 event in New York, noting it would be centered on a discussion between the former Democratic Party presidential candidate and Martin, who was elected to his position earlier this year.

The lowest priced tickets for the event – designated as the "building the opposition" tier – reportedly start at $25,000. The higher tier, dubbed "fighting for the future," cost $44,300.

The event will be another rare public appearance for Harris since she lost the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump in November.

The former candidate has stayed out of the limelight following the defeat, except for a few outings, like her attendance at the NAACP Image Awards in February. During that event, she made a speech decrying the Trump administration after accepting the event’s "Chairman’s Award."

A source close to her told 91�� Digital last week that she was contemplating launching a gubernatorial campaign in the state of California. The source said Harris would decide whether to take that path by the end of the summer.

There has also been speculation that Harris might mount another presidential run in 2028. Early Democratic presidential polls indicate that the former vice president holds a significant lead over other potential White House contenders.

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville blasted Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg's plans to spend $20 million on launching primary challenges against "ineffective" Democratic lawmakers during an interview on Wednesday.

Leaders We Deserve, a political organization led by Hogg, announced on Wednesday that it will spend $20 million to help elect younger Democrats. The effort includes supporting primary challengers to House Democrats in safe seats that Hogg argues "are asleep at the wheel."

Carville told CNN those plans "the most insane thing" he'd ever heard, and questioned why the newly elected DNC Vice Chair isn't using these funds to "take on a Republican."

The longtime Democratic strategist questioned whether Hogg was breaching his "fiduciary duty" to the Democratic Party by raising money to primary members of his own party.

He also lashed out at Hogg for going after Democrats rather than focusing on lawmakers from across the aisle.

"Does he really think the problem that we‘re facing in the United States today is because we got 65-year-old Democrats in office? Why don’t you take on a Republican? That‘s your job," Carville asserted.

He continued his criticisms of Hogg's plans, saying, "The most insane thing I ever heard is the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee is spending $20 million running against other Democrats. Aren't we supposed to run against Republicans?"

Carville joked he may be too "old-fashioned" to understand the young DNC vice chair's strategy.

"I‘m not part of the hip generation. I’m not very au courant. But I actually thought our job was to beat Republicans? How quaint, how quaint of me," he quipped.

David Hogg says he received 'an enormous amount of vitriol' for asking about Dem outreach to young men

DNC candidate and gun control activist David Hogg claimed Tuesday he was attacked for telling Democrats that they needed to reach out more to young men before the election.

Hogg, who announced his candidacy for Democratic National Committee vice chairperson Monday, told MSNBC that he was primarily running out of frustration over Democrats ignoring and even blasting his insistence on reaching out to young men.

"The reason why I’m doing this is, frankly, because we need to build a party that tells people what it needs to hear and not what its consultants are paid just to say whatever people want to hear over and over again where we continue losing," Hogg said on "MSNBC Reports."

He continued, "Throughout the campaign, there were multiple times where I brought up publicly my concerns about young voters, and I was shut down by consultants and messaged by them saying, ‘You don’t know what you are talking about. This is not an issue. This is dumb of you to say,’ and a whole lot of other things that I can’t tell you on TV."

Hogg remarked that he heard the same criticism even while working for the Harris campaign.

Why would we focus on that? I think that one thing we need to change in the party is that empathy is not a zero-sum game. We can care about young men and care about young women."

He added, "We have to make sure that we’re building a party not just incorporates those that are critical but make sure that we listen to people who are bringing up things that we may not want to hear in the first place. My reason for doing this is if I’m not given a seat at the table, or if I’m not let in the room, I will break down the door."

Hogg acknowledged that he’s an "underdog" in the race for leadership in his party, but emphasized that he will not let up on criticizing Democrats if it will lead to change.

"I am not going to contort myself or try to change my opinions or my views in order to get other people’s votes. I’m here to make sure I’m promoting what I believe in, which is we need to build a party that is inclusive and representative of young people along with people of all ages," Hogg said.

Sanders referred to the Harris campaign as "disastrous" in his X post, asking "Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign?"

"Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing?" added Sanders. "Do they have any ideas as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful oligarchy which has so much economic and political power? Probably not."

Vice President Harris has gained only 226 Electoral College votes thus far, according to the 91�� Decision Desk. She has been projected to lose critical swing states Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Democrats didn't just suffer defeat at the top of the ticket, but across the board. According to projections from the 91�� Decision Desk, Republicans are set to take the majority of both the House and Senate.

Harrison is not expected to seek re-election as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, per Reuters. He was first chosen for the post in 2021 after President Biden took office.

Podcaster Joe Rogan accused TV personality Oprah Winfrey and former first lady Michelle Obama of brazen hypocrisy in their DNC speeches Thursday.

Oprah slammed former President Trump at the convention while saying the work of maintaining a democracy "requires standing up to life’s bullies" and describing how she has seen and sometimes been on the receiving end of "racism and sexism and income inequality and division."

Shortly after, the Trump campaign posted a thank-you letter Winfrey wrote in 2000 suggesting that he would be a good president. "Too bad we're not running for office," Winfrey wrote. "What a team!"

Likewise, the former first lady spoke about how her mother showed her "the meaning of hard work and humility and decency," and added, "She and my father didn't aspire to be wealthy. In fact, they were suspicious of folks who took more than they needed. They understood that it wasn't enough for their kids to thrive if everyone else around us was drowning."

But on Thursday, amid a conversation recalling how prominent public figures turned against Trump in recent years, Rogan mocked how both of these women have become fabulously wealthy in their own right.

"How about Oprah?" Rogan said. "Oprah was talking about her and Trump running together, and now she's speaking to the DNC that he's a threat to democracy and she's up there talking about income inequality, like, 'Hey lady… you're rich as f---.' I’m like, ‘How is that equal?’"

The podcaster then added, "And also when Michelle Obama was saying, you know, I think she was saying her mother or grandmother was always suspicious of people who took more than they needed, like, you are worth so much money. That's so crazy. You did it on a civil servant’s salary which is insane."

Rogan was not the only public figure to call out Oprah’s hypocrisy. The major media mogul’s denunciation of income inequality rang hollow to people who pointed out her current enormous net worth, which Forbes estimated is $3 billion.

Conservative radio host Dana Loesch wrote, "Kinda weird for Oprah, with her Hawaiian estate and multiple homes, expensive wardrobes, frequent luxury vacations, etc., to talk about income inequality."

Meanwhile, Trump War Room, the official account of former President Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, shared a clip of Michelle Obama's speech and commented, "Michelle Obama says her parents ‘were suspicious of folks who took more than they needed.’ She has a net worth of $70 million and lives in a mansion in Martha's Vineyard."

Human Rights Campaign president Kelley Robinson urged people to "reimagine" freedom and democracy beyond the Founders' "little piece of paper" at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) last week.

Robinson spoke on the third night of the DNC, but two days before, she was on a panel at the DNC’s LGBTQ+ Kickoff where she was asked how to "dramatically shift and build more power" for the LGBTQ community and other minorities.

"We can't just worry about protecting democracy. In this moment, we've got to reimagine it with people that look and love like us at the center," Robinson answered.

She continued, "And I think for us right now is about reimagining freedom and this American story in a way that is more revolutionary than what our Founders actually put down on that little piece of paper, but instead is the type of democracy that is by and for all of the people in this country. That's the opportunity that we have."

The self-described Black queer woman delivered remarks on the DNC national stage Wednesday where she said Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, were "fighting for joy."

She said, "The story of America is the story of progress towards freedom. In just a few generations, my family went from being enslaved in Mississippi to the first free Black family in Muscatine, Iowa, to preparing to elect President Kamala Harris. Progress is happening my friends!"

She added, "Donald Trump wants to erase us. He would ban our healthcare. Belittle our marriages. Bury our stories. But we’re not going anywhere. We are not going back. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, they’re our champions for LGBTQ+ freedom, y’all."

Robinson previously hosted the HRC's "Out for Kamala Harris LGBTQ+ Unity" virtual rally to support Harris in July.

Robinson also went viral last year for her testimony at the Senate’s hearing on "Protecting Pride: Defending the Civil Rights of LGBTQ+ Americans." During her testimony, she denied biological males have a physical advantage over women in sports by claiming tennis star Serena Williams could beat a man.

"There's been this news article about men that think they can beat Serena Williams in tennis," Robinson said. "And it's just not the case. She is stronger than them."

Once considered one of the most progressive members of Congress, Vice President Kamala Harris was widely depicted as a moderate in the media following her Democratic nomination acceptance speech, according to media pundits and news hosts who compared the Democratic presidential nominee to Ronald Reagan and argued the party "captured the center."

"They talk about her, the Republicans, the Trump Republicans, as a San Francisco liberal, as a radical. They call her comrade Kamala," ABC's Jonathan Karl said Friday. "If you take out the section on abortion rights, much of this speech could have been delivered at a Republican convention, a Republican convention before Trump."

Harris delivered her speech on Thursday and accepted the Democratic nomination, speaking about key issues such as the border, the economy and more. She also spoke about charting a "new way forward" and vowed to be a president for "all Americans."

"Quite a contrast from the way she ran for president the first time when she tried to get the nomination four years ago. This is a Kamala Harris that sounded a little bit more like Maggie Thatcher or Ronald Reagan, especially on national security, than like Bernie Sanders," Karl continued.

ABC's George Stephanopoulos, who worked for Bill Clinton, said Harris' speech made him think of "moderates, middle class, middle America."

Paul Begala, also a former adviser to Bill Clinton, claimed the Democratic Party "captured the center."

"Elections in this country are won in the middle, the moderate mainstream. And [Jeff] Zeleny talked about Hillary's convention in 2016. I was there. John Allen, a retired four-star general, stood up to credential her on national security, and far-left extremists on the floor of the Democratic Party convention booed him. That didn't happen here," Begala said on CNN on Friday. "This is a party that has moved to the middle."

Begala was also asked if Harris was trying to position herself between Donald Trump and President Biden.

"It’s moderation. She’s being her authentic self. This is a woman who was a prosecutor. This is a woman who is an attorney general. She has a record. This is not positioning by Kamala Harris, this is who she is," he said.

"The party had, at times, been drawn to the extreme left … This is her authentic self as a moderate mainstream American."

CNN's Van Jones suggested before her speech on Thursday that Harris had essentially play-acted as a progressive during her far-left 2020 presidential campaign, which included calling for the elimination of private health insurance.

"When she was saying all that stuff and doing all that stuff, did you notice she didn‘t seem comfortable in herself during that primary?" Jones asked. "Because that‘s not Kamala Harris. And we know that. What you‘re seeing now, confident, I‘m the prosecutor, I‘m going to deal with these problems, that's actually [her.]"

CNN host John Berman said Friday that Harris' message on national security was "the kind of statement you would have heard at a Republican convention 20 years ago."

Harris said during her speech that she would "will never waver in defense of America’s security and ideals, because in the enduring struggle between democracy and tyranny, I know where I stand and I know where the United States belongs."

During ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, Politico's Jonathan Martin said it was incredible that the Democratic Party had "given her a pass effectively to reinvent herself wholecloth from her 2019 ill-fated bid for the presidency."

"She knows she has to run to the political center, and she is doing that, and she's running from how she ran in 2019, and the party just wants to beat Trump. So, of course, they're fine with that, they're not going to say a peep about it, but that's clearly what she's doing," he added.

Harris has taken criticism for avoiding the media since emerging as the nominee and thus being truly challenged on some of her apparent pivots, or whether she would hold to them if she were elected.

"Kamala Harris is trying to deceive voters into believing she is a moderate to get elected, but her record proves she is the most dangerously liberal nominee in history. Kamala supports wide-open borders, soft on crime policies that put criminals back onto the streets, communist price controls and a government takeover of healthcare -- and our campaign will make sure every voter knows it," Trump Campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told 91�� Digital in a statement.

CNN's Jones declared on Thursday that the Left "just died" after Harris' speech, despite Harris previously holding several left-wing positions.

"These guys want to fight not just Biden in the past," Jones said. "They want to fight this sort of anti-woke war against a left that just died in here and something new just got born."

He told the GOP that, "Kamala Harris Democrats are a different thing for you guys to fight."

ABC's Mary Bruce touted Harris' remarks on Saturday and said the vice president attempted to appeal to Independents and Republicans.

"You had superstars like Oprah Winfrey coming out there and reminding folks she too is an independent," Bruce said.
