STEVE FORBES: Regulators risk destroying local TV by blocking key media merger

Washington should not cling to yesterday’s rulebook while today’s local newsrooms vanish

The Nexstar-Tegna transaction is exactly the kind of pro-growth, common-sense deal Washington should applaud, not bury under a mountain of legal briefs, bureaucratic nostrums and political posturing.

These two companies are major owners of local television stations.

For years, America’s local broadcasters have been battered by forces far larger than any single station group: Big Tech, streaming behemoths, social-media platforms, cord-cutting, cable fragmentation and the steady siphoning of advertising dollars away from local outlets. The old world of three networks, a handful of hometown stations and a captive evening-news audience has long gone the way of the dinosaurs.

STEVE FORBES: 4 WAYS TO FIX WHAT'S WRONG WITH NEW YORK CITY AND STOP THE EXODUS

Local television today is not operating in a sheltered village. It is competing in a global, fiercely competitive marketplace.

That is why the Nexstar-Tegna deal matters.

This is not just another media merger. It is a test of whether policymakers understand the real economy — or whether they remain trapped in a regulatory museum, polishing rules written for a media world that no longer exists.

Nexstar has made the case that acquiring Tegna would strengthen local journalism by giving stations more resources, better technology, stronger programming capabilities and the scale needed to compete. CEO Perry Sook has said the combined company would be positioned to deliver strong local journalism and local programming with enhanced assets, capabilities and talent.

Translated from corporate language into plain English: newsrooms need money, people, cameras, technology and staying power. Scale supplies those things. Starvation does not.

Yet several state attorneys general, joined by DirecTV, have tried to block the transaction, warning darkly that Nexstar would gain too much influence in local television markets. This argument has the musty smell of 1985, or even 1955. It collapses the moment one looks at how Americans actually consume information today.

Local broadcasters are not merely competing with the station across town. They are competing with Google, Meta, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, TikTok, Apple, podcasts, cable channels, newsletters, satellite providers and a tsunami of digital content that never stops.

That is the marketplace. Not theory. Not nostalgia. Reality.

The 39% national television ownership cap is a relic. It belongs in the same storage closet as rotary phones, rabbit-ear antennas and three-martini lunches. It was designed for a broadcast era that has vanished. Applying it rigidly today is like regulating automobiles with horse-and-buggy rules.

The Federal Communications Commission was right to recognize that broadcasters need room to maneuver. In today’s marketplace, scale is not the enemy of competition. Scale is the oxygen that keeps local journalism alive.

The Trump administration has rightly made growth, deregulation and the clearing away of bureaucratic barnacles central to its economic philosophy. This deal fits squarely within that agenda. It lets an American media company adapt, invest and compete instead of punishing it for trying to survive.

Blocking this transaction would not preserve competition. It would weaken local broadcasters precisely when they need muscle. It would make it harder for stations to fund reporters and provide investigative stories, weather coverage, emergency alerts and community programming that national outlets rarely provide, and Big Tech certainly does not produce.

Local news is not a luxury good. It is civic infrastructure.

It tells families when storms are coming, when schools are closed, when roads are dangerous, when crime is rising, when local officials are wasting tax dollars and when communities are in crisis. When local newsrooms shrink, corruption gets a holiday. Citizens get less information. Community needs become easier to ignore.

That is why this debate should be judged by the public interest, not by the self-interest of competitors or the political ambitions of state attorneys general eager for headlines.

DirecTV’s role in opposing the deal deserves special scrutiny. DirecTV is a major national distributor with its own commercial agenda. Its lawsuit should not be confused with some noble crusade for local journalism. More likely, it is about leverage, bargaining power and protecting its own margins. Businesses are free to fight for their interests. But regulators and courts should not mistake a competitor’s complaint for the national interest.

The irony is rich. Opponents claim they want to protect local news. Yet their position would make it harder for local broadcasters to compete against the far larger digital and streaming giants that are hollowing out the economics of local journalism.

The dodo bird rationales of the merger’s opponents are in spirit with the "thinking" that had Washington torpedo the merger in 2022 of JetBlue and Spirit Airlines. We all know Spirit is in bankruptcy today, reduced to begging for a government bailout.

That is not consumer protection. That is economic malpractice.

The Nexstar-Tegna transaction offers a path toward stronger local stations, more durable newsrooms and a fighting chance for community journalism to endure. It reflects the hard truth of modern media: companies need size, capital and technological heft to survive in a market dominated by global platforms and deep-pocketed streamers.

Washington should not cling to yesterday’s rule book while today’s local newsrooms vanish.

The administration understands that America prospers when industries are allowed to modernize, consolidate where necessary and compete with the real giants of the modern economy. This is one of those moments. Supporting the Nexstar-Tegna transaction would send a clear message: America will not let stale regulations and political lawsuits strangle necessary adaptation.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Local journalism is too important to be sacrificed on the altar of regulatory nostalgia.

The choice is stark. Let broadcasters build the scale they need to survive — or watch more local newsrooms fade to black.

CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM STEVE FORBES

White House meets AI firm Anthropic amid political tensions, Pentagon dispute

Anthropic's Mythos Preview model has uncovered thousands of previously unknown security flaws in critical systems

One month after President Donald Trump ordered a government-wide halt on artificial intelligence firm Anthropic’s technology following a clash with the Pentagon, the company’s CEO is back at the White House for high-level talks — as officials reconsider whether a system they sidelined over national security and political concerns may be too important to ignore.

A source familiar with the meeting told 91±¬ÁÏ White House chief of staff Susie Wiles met with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei Friday.Â

Anthropic’s new artificial intelligence model, Mythos Preview, is considered so advanced that the company has restricted its release, limiting access to a small group of partners over concerns about potential misuse.

The meeting signals a rapid reversal inside the Trump administration, as officials weigh whether a system previously flagged as a national security risk could also be critical to defending U.S. infrastructure — exposing a growing internal tension over how to handle powerful AI tools with both defensive and offensive potential.

"Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei today met with senior administration officials for a productive discussion on how Anthropic and the U.S. government can work together on key shared priorities such as cybersecurity, America’s lead in the AI race, and AI safety. The meeting reflected Anthropic's ongoing commitment to engaging with the U.S. government on the development of responsible AI. We are grateful for their time and are looking forward to continuing these discussions," an Anthropic spokesperson told 91±¬ÁÏ Digital.Â

MADURO RAID QUESTIONS TRIGGER PENTAGON REVIEW OF TOP AI FIRM AS POTENTIAL ‘SUPPLY CHAIN RISK’

The talks come despite a recent clash inside the Trump administration, as officials reconsider a company the Pentagon flagged as a supply chain risk. Its ties to former Biden officials and past criticism of Trump by its CEO have added a political dimension to the debate over whether its technology should return to government use.

That potential and the risks that come with it already have triggered tensions inside the U.S. government.

Pentagon clash, legal fight and reversal put Anthropic back in play

The meeting comes after a sharp break between Anthropic and the Pentagon earlier in 2026. Â

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designated the company a national security "supply chain risk," effectively cutting it out of military systems and barring contractors from using its technology.

Anthropic is now challenging the designation in court, after filing multiple lawsuits against the Pentagon and other federal agencies arguing the "supply chain risk" label is unlawful and retaliatory.Â

The designation, which effectively bars contractors from using Anthropic’s technology and has been compared to measures typically reserved for foreign adversaries, already has faced conflicting rulings in federal court, with one judge temporarily blocking parts of the policy while an appeals court declined to halt its enforcement. The legal fight is ongoing, leaving contractors and agencies navigating uncertainty over whether and how Anthropic’s systems can be used.

The move followed a dispute over how the Pentagon could use Anthropic’s AI.Â

The company declined to grant open-ended authorization for "all lawful purposes," instead insisting its systems not be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. While Pentagon officials said they do not rely on AI for either purpose, they rejected being constrained by a private company’s restrictions.

Trump then directed federal agencies to stop using Anthropic’s models altogether, escalating the standoff beyond the Defense Department into a government-wide halt.

Now, just weeks later, the company is back in high-level talks with the White House as officials weigh whether its new Mythos system — despite the earlier ban — could shift the balance of cyber defense and attack.

Political ties and past criticism may complicate White House talks

The dispute also has taken on a political dimension.

Amodei previously has drawn attention for his criticism of Trump, at one point likening him to a "feudal warlord" in a pre-2024-election Facebook post, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

In an internal message posted on Anthropic’s Slack platform and later leaked to The Information, Amodei suggested the Trump administration’s dispute with the company was driven in part by its refusal to offer what he described as "dictator-style praise."Â

The message, written during a rapid escalation of tensions in early March, later was cited by the Wall Street Journal and other outlets. Amodei subsequently apologized for the tone, saying the post did not reflect his considered views.

FEDERAL APPEALS COURT REJECTS ANTHROPIC BID TO BLOCK PENTAGON BLACKLIST IN AI DISPUTE

When asked about Anthropic’s governance, hiring and broader political ties, a White House official said the administration "continues to proactively engage across government and industry to protect the United States and Americans," including "working with frontier AI labs to ensure their models help secure critical software vulnerabilities."

The official added that "any new technology that would potentially be used or deployed by the federal government requires a technical period of evaluation for fidelity and security," and said "the collective effort of all involved will ultimately benefit industry, and our country, as a whole."

Beyond the immediate dispute, the company’s broader ties to Washington also have drawn attention.

Anthropic’s governance structure has also drawn attention as the administration weighs closer engagement. The company is overseen in part by an independent "Long-Term Benefit Trust," an unusual mechanism designed to give nonfinancial stakeholders influence over corporate decisions.Â

The trust holds special voting shares that allow it to appoint and eventually control a majority of the company’s board, with members drawn from national security, public policy and global development backgrounds.

Current trustees include Clinton Health Access Initiative CEO Neil Buddy Shah, Carnegie Endowment president Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, a Democrat who was appointed to the California Supreme Court by former Gov. Jerry Brown in 2014, and Center for a New American Security CEO Richard Fontaine — who advised John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. The group is a mix of policy and national security leaders that underscores the company’s deep ties to Washington and global policy circles.

Anthropic’s backers also have placed it at the center of overlapping tech, policy and political networks.Â

Early funding for the company included investments from figures such as Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, both longtime Democratic donors, and a major early investment from Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX.

At the same time, the company has since attracted a broad range of major institutional investors — including Amazon, Google and Microsoft — reflecting its growing role in the global AI race and complicating efforts to characterize it along purely political lines.

The company also has brought on several officials from the Biden administration into key policy roles, further embedding Anthropic in Washington’s AI policy ecosystem. Among them is Tarun Chhabra, a former National Security Council official who now leads the company’s national security policy work, as well as other advisers and staff with experience shaping federal AI and technology strategy.

Anthropic also has sought to build ties across party lines as it expands its presence in Washington.Â

The company employs policy staff with Republican backgrounds, including legislative analyst Benjamin Merkel and lobbyist Mary Croghan, and in February added Chris Liddell — a former deputy White House chief of staff under Trump — to its board. It has contributed $20 million to Public First Action, a bipartisan group that backs candidates from both parties who support AI regulation.

The company has also faced criticism from within the Trump administration.Â

White House AI adviser David Sacks has accused Anthropic of pursuing a "regulatory capture" strategy, arguing the firm is using concerns about AI safety to push rules that could benefit its own position while slowing competitors.Â

Anthropic has pushed back on those claims, saying its approach reflects genuine concerns about the risks posed by advanced AI systems.

JUDGE FREEZES TRUMP ADMIN MOVE AGAINST AI FIRM, FUELING BATTLE OVER SECURITY AUTHORITY

New AI system could reshape cyber warfare, raising alarms inside US government

The new technology could help developers identify and fix long-standing security flaws, but it could also give hackers a powerful new tool to target U.S. businesses and government systems.

"Given the rate of AI progress, it will not be long before such capabilities proliferate, potentially beyond actors who are committed to deploying them safely," Anthropic said in its announcement. "The fallout — for economies, public safety, and national security — could be severe."

Anthropic has not released Mythos publicly, instead limiting access through a program called Project Glasswing, where a select group of companies use the model to scan critical systems for vulnerabilities.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

The company says the system has already uncovered thousands of previously unknown flaws — some decades old — underscoring both its defensive value and the risk it could be used to accelerate cyberattacks if the technology spreads.

Fox Business' Edward Lawrence contributed to this report.

Hawley urges DOJ probe into abortion pill maker over safety concerns

Mifepristone now accounts for over 70% of abortions in the US, according to Hawley's letter to DOJ

FIRST ON FOX— Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is calling on the Department of Justice to investigate Danco Laboratories, which produces and distributes the abortion drug mifepristone.

"Women are being harmed by this chemical abortion drug at far higher rates than advertised on the drug label," Hawley said in a letter sent to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche Tuesday that was obtained by 91±¬ÁÏ Digital. "As you may know, this drug is now responsible for over 70 percent of abortions in the United States—a number which has risen in just the last four years. Large, secretive pharmaceutical corporations like Danco must be held accountable for these serious safety risks to women and the Department should take immediate action."Â

Mifepristone, an abortion pill originally made by Danco Laboratories, blocks progesterone, a hormone needed to sustain pregnancy, and is followed by misoprostol to complete the abortion.Â

HAWLEY BLASTS FDA APPROVAL OF NEW ABORTION DRUG, CITES SAFETY AND TRUST CONCERNS

"Very little information is publicly available about Danco Laboratories," Hawley wrote in his letter. "The company first introduced mifepristone in the United States in 2000 and, in doing so, appears to have taken unusual and extreme measures to protect itself from liability. It was incorporated in the Cayman Islands. Its board of directors and investors remain secret."

In a 2023 article headlined "Why you’ve never heard of the company behind the abortion pill," the Los Angeles Times reported, "As far as drug companies go, abortion pill maker Danco Laboratories is all but anonymous. It has fewer than 20 employees, uses a P.O. Box to avoid sharing its headquarters address and isn’t listed on any public exchanges."

Hawley wrote that Danco Laboratories' corporate structure "remains largely shielded from public view. Early backers appear to have included George Soros and other far-left activists who favor population control. We do know, however, that chemical abortion is a lucrative enterprise for Danco—so lucrative, in fact, that mifepristone is the only drug the company makes, with investors’ returns reportedly topping 450%."Â

In his letter, Hawley referenced a study from the Ethics and Public Policy Center, authored by Ryan T. Anderson, the organization’s president, and Jamie Bryan Hall, its director of data analysis, which reviewed a claims database that included 865,727 prescribed mifepristone abortions from 2017 to 2023.

MISSOURI ATTORNEY GENERAL TAKES NEW LEGAL AIM AT MAIL-ORDER ABORTION PILLS OVER SAFETY CONCERNS

It found that 10.93% of women "experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion."Â

On its website, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) calls mifepristone safe but adds, "The FDA has received reports of serious adverse events in patients who took mifepristone. As of December 31, 2024, there were 36 reports of deaths in patients associated with mifepristone since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy located outside the womb, such as in the fallopian tubes) resulting in death, and several fatal cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis)."Â

"You and the Department of Justice are tasked with upholding the rule of law and protecting every American—including women that companies like Danco prey on and lie to," Hawley wrote to Blanche.

PRO-LIFE GROUP FINDS BIDEN-ERA FDA POLICY IS DRIVING 500 ABORTIONS PER DAY, SAYS TRUMP HAS POWER TO END ITÂ

"This mandate includes ensuring Danco’s prompt, fulsome, and transparent compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ongoing regulatory obligations," he added. "My Subcommittee has opened an investigation into Danco and its business practices. I request that you also open an investigation into Danco, including but not limited to its original FDA approval, ongoing regulatory compliance, manufacture and distribution pipeline, potentially deceptive marketing practices, and disclosure of safety risks pertaining to the drug."Â

A DOJ spokesperson told 91±¬ÁÏ Digital in a statement that, "President Trump’s record on protecting unborn life and defending women’s health is unmatched. The Department of Justice will continue to advance those priorities by asking courts to allow the FDA to complete its review of mifepristone safety data and by investigating any person or entity that engaged in illegal conduct putting women or unborn children at risk."

91±¬ÁÏ Digital reached out to Danco Laboratories for comment.Â

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Remove your personal info from the web; stop it from coming back

Why your data keeps coming back online and how to stop it

The first time I tried to remove my personal information from people search sites, it was back online after a few weeks. If the same thing happened to you, you might have decided it's just not worth the effort. This is likely by design.Â

Data brokers profit from your information, so they're incentivized to make the process as difficult as possible. Sen. Maggie Hassan even called out a few data brokers recently for hiding their opt-out pages altogether. But you don't have to let them keep your data as long as you know what to do.Â

Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy Report

Get my best tech tips, urgent security alerts and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox.

For simple, real-world ways to spot scams early and stay protected, visit CyberGuy.com trusted by millions who watch CyberGuy on TV daily.

Plus, you'll get instant access to my Ultimate Scam Survival Guide free when you join.

SPRING CLEAN YOUR DIGITAL FOOTPRINT: WHY RETIREES ARE SCAM TARGETS

How to remove your personal info

The way I see it, there are two ways you can do this:

Manually removing your information

Using an automated data removal service

I recommend the second option. It saves a lot of time and does a more thorough job than most people will manage on their own. But if you still prefer to go about it yourself, I'll share a step-by-step guide to help you do it as painlessly and thoroughly as possible.

Step 1: Map your exposures

This step is important for when your information inevitably reappears after some time. Before you start removing anything, compile a list of places where your personal information appears or is likely to be held. Or you can compile the list yourself. The sites will likely include:

People search sites

These are the easiest to find because they're designed to be public.

Search: "your full name" + city, "your phone number", "your email"

Check beyond page 1, as many listings appear deeper in the results

Repeat searches with: Maiden names or name variations and old locations

Private data broker databases (harder to see, but widely used)

These don't usually show up in search results because they sell data to businesses, not individuals. You can try to infer their presence based on how your data is used, but it's no easy feat.

This is one of the reasons I recommend using a data removal service. They narrow down which brokers are most likely to have your information based on things like your location and other markers.

But if you want to try for yourself, look for signals like:

Getting calls or emails from companies you've never interacted with

Highly specific outreach (e.g., your job title, income range, or recent move)

Pre-filled forms with your personal details

Where your data likely came from:

Warranty registrations

Loyalty programs and retail purchases

Financial, insurance or real estate inquiries

App usage and location data

If you've shared your data with a company, there's a strong chance it's been resold or shared with brokers behind the scenes.

Marketing and lead generation lists

These are often built for targeted advertising and outreach, and your data can circulate across many of them at once.

How to spot them:

Sudden spikes in spam after:

Signing up for a service

Entering a giveaway or quiz

Downloading a resource (e.g., ebook, discount code)

Signing up for a service

Entering a giveaway or quiz

Downloading a resource (e.g., ebook, discount code)

Emails that feel "personalized" but come from unfamiliar brands

Messages referencing a specific interest, purchase, or life event

Where to check:

Your email inbox (search for patterns in senders)

SMS history for unknown marketing messages

Unsubscribe pages (they often reveal the company or list owner)

Important: Unsubscribing usually stops messages. It doesn't remove your data from the underlying list.

Public profile aggregators (not quite the same as people search sites)

These sites compile information from across the web but aren't always designed specifically for "people lookup."

Examples include:

Old forum profiles or community pages

Professional directories and membership listings

Scraped social media profiles

Event attendee lists or speaker bios

How to find them:

Search your name in quotes + keywords like:

"profile", "bio", "member", "directory"

Search usernames you've used in the past

Use image search to find reused profile photos

These are often overlooked but can still expose valuable details like your location, employer or social links.

5 MYTHS ABOUT IDENTITY THEFT THAT PUT YOUR DATA AT RISK

Step 2: Remove your data

Now that you've mapped where your data is exposed (or likely to be), it's time to start removing it. Instead of jumping randomly between sites, work through your list in order of visibility and risk:

People search sites (highest visibility)

Public profile aggregators

Marketing and lead-gen lists

Private data brokers (least visible, but still important)

Remove your data from people search sites

These should be your first priority because they make your personal information easy for anyone to find.

Typical process:

Find your listing using the link you saved earlier

Locate the "opt-out" or "remove my info" page (usually in the footer)

Submit your profile URL

Verify your request (via email or CAPTCHA)

What to expect:

Time per site: ~5-20 minutes

Removal timeframe: a few days to a couple of weeks

Tip: Save confirmation emails or screenshots. You may need them if your data reappears.

Remove your data from public profile aggregators

These can be less standardized since they're often scraped or republished pages.

Typical process:

Look for a "Contact," "Support" or "Privacy" page

Request removal directly (or delete your account, if possible)

If no response, identify the site owner via WHOIS or hosting info

Alternative option:

If the page won't be removed, you can request de-indexing through Google, but this only hides it from search results, not the site itself

These take more effort, but they're worth addressing because they often contain contextual details (job, interests, affiliations.)Â

Remove your data from marketing and lead-generation lists

This is less about a single listing and more about stopping ongoing data use.

Typical process:

Use the "unsubscribe" link in emails or reply STOP to SMS messages

Look for a "delete my data" or privacy request option

Submit a formal request if available (often under GDPR/CCPA rights)

Important:

Unsubscribing stops messages

It does not always delete your data

If the company has a privacy page, look specifically for:

"Right to deletion"

"Do not sell my information"

Remove your data from private data broker databases

These are the least visible and often the most frustrating to deal with manually.

Typical process:

Find the company's privacy or legal page

Submit a data access or deletion request

Verify your identity (this may require ID documents)

What makes this harder:

You often don't know which brokers have your data

Some require detailed verification

Responses can take weeks

This is where most people hit a wall and where ongoing monitoring or automation becomes useful.

Keep track as you go

As you work through your list, track:

Sites you've submitted requests to

Dates of submission

Confirmation emails or case IDs

This makes it much easier to:

Follow up if needed

Re-check later when your data reappears

1 BILLION IDENTITY RECORDS EXPOSED IN ID VERIFICATION DATA LEAK

The best way to deal with resurfacing data

My recommendation is to use a personal data removal service. These services handle the entire removal process for you, so there's no need to search for your own data online or return to data broker sites to repeat opt-out requests. Everything is managed in the background.Â

They also tend to do a more thorough job than most people can manage on their own.

Many data removal services can request deletions from a wide range of websites, including some that are not easy to find on your own. They also scan for new exposures, alert you if your information shows up again and allow you to submit additional removal requests when needed. In some cases, these requests are handled by privacy specialists.

Most services also include a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it risk-free and see how much of your information is exposed online.

YOU COULD BE SHARING YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER WHEN YOU DON'T NEED TO

Check out my top picks for data removal services and get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web by visiting Cyberguy.com.

Get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web: Cyberguy.com.

Kurt's key takeaways

Removing your personal information from the internet is not a one-and-done task. It takes persistence, a bit of strategy and the right tools. The frustrating part is that your data can come back even after you remove it, but that does not mean the effort is wasted.Â

Every step you take reduces your exposure and makes it harder for your information to spread. If you want the most control, doing it manually gives you a clear view of where your data lives. However, if you want consistency without the ongoing time commitment, a data removal service can take that burden off your plate and keep working in the background. Either way, the key is to stay proactive. Your data has value, and once you start treating it that way, you will approach your privacy very differently.

Have you ever removed your personal info online only to see it show up again later, and what did you do next?

A Pennsylvania-linked manufacturer has been stripped of control over its Russian operations under a Kremlin order, raising fresh risks for Western companies as Moscow courts renewed economic ties with the United States.

CANPACK, a global aluminum beverage can manufacturer owned by a Pennsylvania-based holding company, operates in multiple countries across Europe and North America and said its Russian business — valued at roughly $700 million — was placed under state "external administration" by a Dec. 31, 2025, decree signed by President Vladimir Putin, effectively transferring control of 100% of its shares to state-appointed managers.

CEO Peter Giorgi said the company lost all operational authority after administrators arrived in mid-January.

"I'm only a nominal shareholder," Giorgi said in an interview with 91±¬ÁÏ Digital. "I lose all control of the company."

BIPARTISAN SENATORS PROBE KREMLIN-LINKED DELEGATION'S MEETINGS WITH US OFFICIALS

The case underscores the risks facing Western companies that remained in Russia during the war, even as Moscow signals interest in rebuilding economic ties with Washington as part of potential peace negotiations.

Putin’s envoy for foreign investment, Kirill Dmitriev, is in the United States meeting with officials in President Donald Trump’s administration to discuss a potential Ukraine peace deal and future economic cooperation, according to Reuters.

Analysts say the move is part of a broader shift in Russia’s handling of foreign-owned assets since the Ukraine War. Â

"Let’s not be U.S.-centric about that," said Alexander Kolyandr, a fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis. "CANPACK is not alone."

CANPACK has operated in Russia for nearly 30 years and held an estimated 35%–40% share of the country’s aluminum beverage can market, according to the company, underscoring the scale of the takeover.

The company has had no direct access to, or communication with, its Russian operations since the move, according to a person familiar with the matter, and several senior executives — including the general manager and chief financial officer — were removed following the takeover.

Company officials say executives in Russia have faced pressure from state-appointed administrators, including demands to approve financial decisions under threat of dismissal or other consequences.

The situation has not changed in recent months, according to the officials. The company’s Russian operations remain under external administration, with no restoration of control or ownership as of April.

The move falls under a legal framework introduced in 2023 allowing the Russian government to place certain foreign-owned assets under temporary state control.

The decree identified a company called Stalelement as the entity overseeing the assets, which company representatives describe as a shell entity with ties to the Russian government.

The company has raised the issue with U.S. officials, but no formal action has been taken.

Russian business daily Vedomosti reported in February that CANPACK’s Russian division donated approximately 500 million rubles to a pro-Kremlin fund supporting Russia’s war effort in Ukraine.

The company believes roughly $18 million was directed to state-linked funds supporting Russian operations, with an additional approximately $6 million sent to a Russian Orthodox church, based on Russian media reports and information relayed by former executives. 91±¬ÁÏ has not independently verified those claims.

The estimated transfers represent a small portion of the company’s overall value, but underscore how quickly financial control can shift under external administration.

The company continued operating in Russia after Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, even as many Western firms exited the market.

Giorgi said the company considered leaving but faced challenges unwinding decades of investment and could not find a buyer at a fair price.

"We decided to stay the course," he said, adding that the company hoped conditions would eventually stabilize.

The same December 2025 decree also targeted the Russian subsidiary of Danish insulation manufacturer Rockwool. Other Western companies, including France’s Danone and brewer Carlsberg, have faced similar actions by Russian authorities in recent years.

"We are talking about dozens of companies," Kolyandr said.

Kolyandr said U.S.-linked companies have in some cases been treated more cautiously than their European counterparts.

"American companies fared much better than the European ones," he said, pointing to Moscow’s interest in preserving the possibility of improved ties with Washington.

He said the trend accelerated after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, when Western companies began suspending operations or exiting the market.

"It all started in earnest with the beginning of the war," he said, adding that it became easier for authorities to take control of assets.

Kolyandr said the policy reflects a wider redistribution of property aimed at bringing profitable or strategic assets under closer state influence.

"It sends a signal across the system that if you do not toe the line, your property may be taken away," he said.

He added that while the process may generate some revenue for the state, funding the war is unlikely to be the primary driver.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"On the one hand, it helps to generate a bit of cash for the budget," he said. "But I don’t think it’s the main reason."

The Russian Embassy in Washington and the Russian foreign ministry did not respond to requests for comment.
Federal appeals court rejects Anthropic bid to block Pentagon blacklist in AI dispute

The order conflicts with a separate federal court's order last month that blocked the government's moves against Anthropic

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Wednesday rejected Anthropic's request to block the Department of War from blacklisting use of the AI company's technology, a move that conflicts with an order a different federal court issued last month in a separate lawsuit regarding the same issues.

"In our view, the equitable balance here cuts in favor of the government. On one side is a relatively contained risk of financial harm to a single private company. On the other side is judicial management of how, and through whom, the Department of War secures vital AI technology during an active military conflict. For that reason, we deny Anthropic’s motion for a stay pending review on the merits," the April 8 order states. "Nonetheless, because Anthropic raises substantial challenges to the determination and will likely suffer some irreparable harm during the pendency of this litigation, we agree with Anthropic that substantial expedition is warranted."

In a statement provided to 91±¬ÁÏ Digital on Thursday, an Anthropic spokesperson noted, "We're grateful the court recognized these issues need to be resolved quickly and remain confident the courts will ultimately agree that these supply chain designations were unlawful. While this case was necessary to protect Anthropic, our customers, and our partners, our focus remains on working productively with the government to ensure all Americans benefit from safe, reliable AI."

ANTHROPIC'S DEMOCRATIC TIES UNDER FIRE AS TRUMP ADMIN SEVERS PENTAGON CONTRACTS

The War Department referred 91±¬ÁÏ Digital to a Wednesday social media post from Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche.

"Today’s D.C. Circuit stay allowing the government to designate Anthropic as a supply chain risk is a resounding victory for military readiness. Our position has been clear from the start — our military needs full access to Anthropic’s models if its technology is integrated into our sensitive systems. Military authority and operational control belong to the Commander-in-Chief and Department of War, not a tech company," Blanche noted in the post on X.

The War Department in January requested "unrestricted use" of Anthropic for "all lawful purposes," but the AI company drew two red lines, saying it would not be used for domestic surveillance or lethal autonomous weapons.

The administration framed the refusal as corporate insubordination, and Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in February that the War Department "has no interest in using AI to conduct mass surveillance of Americans (which is illegal) nor do we want to use AI to develop autonomous weapons that operate without human involvement."

President Donald Trump said in February that the U.S. would never allow "the radical left, woke company to dictate how our great military fights and wins wars."

In a February 27 Truth Social post, Trump said he was "directing EVERY Federal Agency in the United States Government to IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic’s technology."

"There will be a Six Month phase out period for Agencies like the Department of War who are using Anthropic’s products, at various levels," Trump indicated in the post.

DC COURT RULINGS STALL TRUMP AGENDA ACROSS IMMIGRATION, POLICING, FED — RAISING STAKES ON EXECUTIVE POWER

War Secretary Pete Hegseth slammed Anthropic in a post on X the same day, declaring that he was "directing the Department of War to designate Anthropic a Supply-Chain Risk to National Security."

A letter in March notified Anthropic that the War Department had determined that use of the company's products posed a "supply chain risk," according to a copy of the letter attached to a court filing.

But then in a case in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, a judge issued a preliminary injunction order last month blocking the government from implementing those moves against Anthropic.

TECH COMPANY REFUSES PENTAGON DEMANDS ON UNRESTRICTED USE OF ITS AI

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"This Order restores the status quo. It does not bar any Defendant from taking any lawful action that would have been available to it on February 27, 2026, prior to the issuances of the Presidential Directive and the Hegseth Directive and entry of the Supply Chain Designation. For example, this Order does not require the Department of War to use Anthropic’s products or services and does not prevent the Department of War from transitioning to other artificial intelligence providers, so long as those actions are consistent with applicable regulations, statutes, and constitutional provisions," the March order from U.S. District Judge Rita Lin stated.

Wisconsin town becomes first in the nation to pass referendum restricting AI data center development

The measure requires voter approval before granting tax incentives over $10 million, following Vantage Data Centers' billion-dollar proposal

A Wisconsin town became the first city in the nation to pass a referendum restricting artificial intelligence (AI) data center development after a vote Tuesday.

Port Washington residents voted overwhelmingly in favor (66%) of a ballot measure that would require city leaders to obtain voter approval before granting tax incentives exceeding $10 million to developers.Â

The ballot measure came after Vantage Data Centers announced intentions to develop a $15 billion artificial intelligence campus in collaboration with tech giants OpenAI and Oracle in October.

The measure was developed by Great Lakes Neighbors United, a local grassroots organization that formed after the original Vantage Data Centers announcement. The organization released a statement celebrating the voting results.

KENTUCKY FAMILY SAYS IT TURNED DOWN $26M FROM AI GIANT TO KEEP FARMLAND THAT 'FED A NATION'

"Tonight, democracy worked the way it’s supposed to," Great Lakes Neighbors United member Christiane Le Jeune said. "Over 1,000 residents signed the petition that put this measure on the ballot, and tonight Port Washington voters spoke with one clear voice. The people deserve a seat at the table when their tax dollars are on the line."

While the measure will not affect the current deal with Vantage Data Centers, it places additional obstacles in the way of other developers, especially AI data organizations seeking tax incentives in the city.

AI EXECUTIVES PRAISE TRUMP'S STARGATE PROJECT: 'THIS IS A VERY LARGE INVESTMENT THAT AFFECTS ALL OF HUMANITY'

"We are not against development," co-founder Carri Prom said. "We are for development that the community understands, supports and has chosen together. Tonight proves that when citizens organize and engage, their voices can be heard."

91±¬ÁÏ Digital reached out to Vantage Data Centers, OpenAI and Oracle for comment.

The Vantage Data Centers project in Wisconsin was part of President Donald Trump's multibillion-dollar artificial intelligence infrastructure "Stargate" project that was announced shortly after his term began in January 2025.

MASSIVE AI STARGATE PROJECT UNDER TRUMP ADMIN REVEALS NEXT STEPS

The initial investment for the project was $100 billion, with plans to expand to $500 billion over the next four years. The first data center built under the initiative was in Texas with plans to expand into other states.

Amid concerns about rising energy costs for maintaining data centers, Trump met with several tech leaders who pledged they will generate their own electricity to save taxpayers money.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Three men linked to Supermicro are accused of diverting billions in AI servers to China using dummy servers, fake labels and shell companies

Federal prosecutors charged three men linked to Super Micro Computer Inc. in a sweeping scheme to smuggle billions of dollars in U.S. artificial intelligence technology to China using fake documents, shell companies and staged equipment, officials said.

The defendants allegedly diverted $2.5 billion worth of AI servers — including $510 million in just a few weeks in 2025 — to China.

Yih-Shyan Liaw, 71, a U.S. citizen, and Ting-Wei Sun, 44, of Taiwan, were arrested Thursday, while a third individual, Ruei-Tsang Chang, 53, also of Taiwan, remains at large.

"The indictment unsealed today details alleged efforts to evade U.S. export laws through false documents, staged dummy servers to mislead inspectors, and convoluted transshipment schemes, in order to obfuscate the true destination of restricted AI technology — China," Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. "These chips are the product of American ingenuity, and NSD will continue to enforce our export-control laws to protect that advantage."

TOP AI FIRM ALLEGES CHINESE LABS USED 24K FAKE ACCOUNTS TO SIPHON US TECH

Supermicro said Thursday it was informed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York that three individuals associated with the company had been indicted in connection with an alleged export-control scheme. The company said it is not named as a defendant.

Supermicro said Liaw was a co-founder, senior vice president of business development and board member, Chang was a sales manager in Taiwan, and Sun was a contractor.

Supermicro said it placed the two employees on administrative leave and terminated its relationship with the contractor.

FCC, STATE AGS TO JOIN FORCES IN CRACKDOWN ON CHINA-LINKED COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

"The conduct alleged in the indictment violates the company’s policies and efforts to comply with export control laws," Supermicro said.

According to the indictment, Liaw and Chang — who worked with brokers and customers in China — allegedly directed executives of a Southeast Asia-based company to place purchase orders with a U.S. manufacturer for servers equipped with certain GPUs, purportedly for that company.

The servers were often assembled in the U.S. before being delivered to the Southeast Asia-based company, which then repackaged them in unmarked boxes to conceal their contents before shipping them to China.

CHINESE NATIONALS ARRESTED AT TOP SCHOOL SHOWS HOW CCP VIEWS US UNIVERSITIES AS 'WEAK LINK,' EXPERTS WARN

The defendants and company executives allegedly prepared false documents and communications to show that the company was the end user of the servers.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton for the Southern District of New York accused the defendants of participating in a "systematic scheme" to divert servers with U.S. artificial intelligence technology to customers in China.

"They did so through a tangled web of lies, obfuscation, and concealment — all to drive sales and generate revenues in violation of U.S. law," he said. "Diversion schemes like those disrupted today generate billions of dollars in ill-gotten gains and pose a direct threat to U.S. national security."

DEMOCRATS WARN TRUMP GREEN-LIGHTING NVIDIA AI CHIP SALES COULD BOOST CHINA’S MILITARY EDGE

Roman Rozhavsky, assistant director of the FBI’s Counterintelligence and Espionage Division, added that "controlling the export of sensitive U.S. artificial intelligence technology is essential to safeguarding our national security and defending the homeland."

Prosecutors said the defendants took "extensive measures" to conceal the scheme.

According to the indictment, the defendants staged thousands of "dummy" servers — nonworking physical replicas of the U.S. manufacturer’s servers — to deceive its compliance team.

Officials said surveillance video captured the defendants preparing the dummy servers in a warehouse. Ahead of an inspection by the U.S. Department of Commerce, they allegedly used a hair dryer to remove and reapply labels and serial number stickers to server boxes and the dummy servers.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

They then repackaged the dummy servers in the U.S. manufacturer’s boxes, according to the indictment.

The defendants were charged with conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, as well as conspiracy to smuggle goods and conspiracy to defraud the United States, each carrying up to five years.

Fast-food restaurants using new technology to reshape how customers place orders

McDonald's, Papa Johns using new tools, including AI-powered accuracy scales to weigh food bags

Fast-food giants are racing to bring artificial intelligence to the ordering process, hoping it will reduce errors, speed up service and lighten the load on workers, according to multiple reports.

McDonald's is one of the companies continuing its efforts to overhaul drive-thru operations this year, introducing AI-powered tools aimed at improving accuracy and efficiency.

"Our restaurants, frankly, can be very stressful," Brian Rice, McDonald's chief information officer, previously told The Wall Street Journal. "We have customers at the counter. We have customers at our drive-thru. Couriers coming in for delivery. Delivery at curbside. That's a lot to deal with for our crew.

MCDONALD'S BETS ON GIANT BURGERS, SECRET MENUS AND NOSTALGIA, WITH U.S. ROLLOUT STILL UNCERTAIN

"Technology solutions will alleviate the stress," he added.

Among McDonald's most notable changes are AI-driven "accuracy scales" designed to prevent incorrect orders.

The chain plans to weigh each bag of food before handing it over to customers, according to Mashed. And if the weight does not align with the expected total for the items ordered, employees will be alerted to double-check the contents.

The burger chain is also planning to expand its "Ready on Arrival" program, which uses mobile app geofencing — where a person's phone alerts the restaurant that he or she is in the vicinity — so kitchen staff can begin prepping orders in advance, the outlet also reported.Â

The technology is already in use in the U.S., the company told 91±¬ÁÏ Digital.Â

CLICK HERE FOR MORE LIFESTYLE STORIES

During an August earnings call, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski said the program was deploying across five of the top six markets, with the sixth expected later in the year.

"In the U.S., restaurants with 'Ready on Arrival' can reduce wait times for food pickup by more than 50% and, in many cases, eliminate them all together," Kempczinski said.

McDonald's is also reportedly reviving efforts to employ AI-powered voice ordering, working with Google Cloud on chatbots that will allow customers to place orders, according to a past statement. The effort aims to reduce wait times and lighten employee workloads amid industry-wide staffing shortages.Â

Fast-food chains have faced ongoing staffing shortages in recent years. Industry reports indicate that many restaurants are struggling with hiring and retention amid competition and rising costs.

Pizza chain Papa Johns is making a similar push, announcing this month the launch of a voice and text AI ordering agent powered by Google's Gemini platform.Â

The Atlanta-based company is the first restaurant brand to deploy Google Cloud's new omnichannel food ordering solution, which will operate across apps, websites, phone orders, kiosks and in-car systems, according to a news release.

TEST YOURSELF WITH OUR LATEST LIFESTYLE QUIZ

The AI agent will guide customers through complex group orders, suggest appropriate quantities and account for preferences and food allergies, Papa Johns Chief Digital and Technology Officer Kevin Vasconi told Nation's Restaurant News. The system can also apply deals, recognize loyalty accounts and prompt reordering of past favorites.

Vasconi said the effort should "take the stress out of ordering."

"Let’s say you have to order pizza for your kid's soccer team, and you need to figure out how much to get, preferences, food allergies … the AI agent is built to walk you through all of that," Vasconi said. "It might ask, 'How many people are on the soccer team?' and then come back with suggestions."

If one of the kids doesn't like mushrooms, customers can simply tell the bot that, and it won't include any in the order, Vasconi said.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Initial testing of the new ordering agent showed positive results, including in order size and customer satisfaction, Vasconi told 91±¬ÁÏ Digital.

"Using AI and personalization, the food ordering agent is bringing back the feeling of being known — just like how you feel with your favorite bartender or barista," Vasconi added. "We're working to personalize every interaction with customers, simplify every decision for them and remove friction within every touchpoint."

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER

Papa Johns expects the system to be rolled out nationwide by the end of 2026.

Neighbors outraged as LA airport becomes ground zero for AI-driven flying taxis

A historic LA airport is being rebooted as the center of a new electric air taxi network and a major AI testing ground

Archer Aviation, a leading developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, just made one of its boldest moves yet. The company agreed to acquire Hawthorne Airport for $126 million in cash.Â

According to Archer's latest shareholder letter, the deal includes the remaining 30 years on the airport's master lease and an exclusive option to take a controlling stake in the on-site fixed-base operator, subject to city approval.Â

This historic 80-acre site includes about 190,000 square feet of terminals, office space and hangars. Its location near LAX and major Los Angeles destinations makes it a prime spot for an air taxi network that aims to change how people move in crowded cities.

Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy Report
Get my best tech tips, urgent security alerts and exclusive deals delivered straight to your inbox. The company also plans to prepare the site to support transportation during the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This includes managing everything from takeoff scheduling to ground operations. In its shareholder letter, Archer frames Hawthorne as a "plug-and-play" anchor hub for its LA28 Olympic plans, saying it expects to ramp up aircraft testing, storage, maintenance and charging on-site as it prepares for commercial service.

The airport will also become a test bed for next-generation AI-powered aviation systems. These tools will help Archer develop smarter air traffic management, faster turnaround times and safer operations in crowded airspace.

Archer outlines a two-phase plan in the letter. Phase 1 focuses on redeveloping up to 200,000 square feet of hangars and locking in control of the FBO, while Phase 2 layers in AI air traffic and ground management, smart sensor-embedded runways and a more digital, streamlined passenger experience.

United Airlines CFO Michael Leskinen praised the move and said, "Archer's trajectory validates our conviction that eVTOLs are part of the next generation of air traffic technology that will fundamentally reshape aviation. Their vision for an AI-enabled operations platform isn't just about eVTOLs, it's also about leveraging cutting-edge technology to better enable moving people safely and efficiently in our most congested airspaces. Through United's investment arm, United Airlines Ventures, we're investing in companies like Archer that pioneer technologies that will define and support aviation infrastructure for decades to come."

Meanwhile, Hawthorne Mayor Alex Vargas celebrated the deal on social media, writing "WELCOME ARCHER TO THE CITY OF HAWTHORNE!"

Neighbors outraged over ‘AI air taxi’ takeover

Not everyone is cheering Archer's plan to turn Hawthorne into a flagship hub for AI-guided flying taxis. A local group called Hawthorne Quiet Skies, made up of residents living around the airport, says it was blindsided by the $126 million takeover and that no one from the company or city bothered to engage it before announcing a "test bed for AI-powered aviation technologies" over homes.

Neighbors who live just across the street and within a couple of blocks of the runway describe Hawthorne as one of the most tightly packed airports in the country, with homes on three sides and years of complaints about deafening jet and helicopter noise. The city's own 2021 noise study identified more than 160 homes and roughly 480 people already exposed to unhealthy noise levels, yet residents say there has been "zero progress" on mitigation even as the airport shifted from small private planes to commercial traffic and now an around-the-clock eVTOL hub.

The group is also raising alarms about Archer's AI ambitions, pointing to academic research that current machine-learning systems in aviation still struggle to handle unusual conditions and lack formal safety guarantees.Â

They argue that whatever the promises of cleaner, futuristic air taxis, Hawthorne is being used as a live test site without clear safeguards, updated federal noise rules or any serious plan to compensate families if nonstop eVTOL traffic makes their homes too loud to live in.

CHINA’S FIRST MASS-PRODUCED FLYING CAR DEBUTS

How Archer Aviation is funding growth and expanding its air taxi program

Alongside the airport news, Archer reported major financial momentum. The company raised an additional $650 million in equity, which boosted its total liquidity to more than $2 billion. The company's Midnight aircraft also hit new flight milestones, including a 55-mile flight at over 126 mph and a climb to 10,000 feet.

Archer also expanded its global technology footprint. It completed the acquisition of Lilium's patent portfolio, which pushes Archer's total intellectual property to more than 1,000 global assets. Those patents cover ducted fans, high voltage systems, flight controls and other key technologies.

International expansion is underway, too. Archer began test and demo flights in the UAE and secured new partnerships with Korean Air and with Japan Airlines and Sumitomo's JV in Osaka and Tokyo.

What this means for you

Archer's airport deal suggests that air taxis are moving closer to everyday use. This shift could mean shorter trips across major cities at a fraction of today's travel time. It could also bring quieter aircraft over neighborhoods compared to helicopters.

For Los Angeles residents, Hawthorne Airport may become a central point for fast point-to-point travel once certification moves forward. Visitors flying in for major events like the LA28 Olympics could see air taxis as a smooth alternative to gridlocked freeways.

Businesses may gain new options for rapid transport across the region. The move also signals more investment and jobs in advanced aviation, automation and clean electric travel.

Take my quiz: How safe is your online security?

Think your devices and data are truly protected? Its focus on AI-driven operations shows how automated aviation may soon play a much bigger role in daily life, even as regulators are still working out how to safely integrate these aircraft into crowded cities. At the same time, the move is already sparking backlash from neighbors who worry about more noise and safety risks and being turned into a test site for AI-guided aircraft without a real say. If Archer can win over regulators, investors and the communities living just beyond the fence line, this step could make the future of urban flight feel much closer, for better or worse.

If air taxis become a real option in Los Angeles by 2028, would you try one for your daily commute or stick to the ground?
Democratic lawmakers pen letter accusing Meta, OpenAI, Google and more of trying to 'buy favor' with Trump

'Funny, they never sent me one of these for contributing to Democrats,' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tweeted in response to the letter

Democratic lawmakers have penned a letter accusing Big Tech companies and leaders of engaging in an "effort to influence and sway" the incoming administration following substantial donations to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund.

The letter, obtained by 91±¬ÁÏ Digital, was distributed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Michael Bennet to Amazon, Apple, Google, OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft and Uber.

"Big Tech companies have come under increased scrutiny from federal regulators for antitrust violations, violations of privacy, and harms to workers, consumers, and competition. At the same time, lawmakers in both parties have voiced support for regulating tech platforms, in recognition that there is currently no comprehensive set of rules for the tech sector," the letter states.

BIDEN WARNS OF 'ULTRA-WEALTHY' 'OLIGARCHY' DESPITE ACCEPTING DONATIONS FROM DEM MEGA-DONORS

"We are concerned that your company and other Big Tech donors are using your massive contributions to the inaugural fund to cozy up to the incoming Trump administration in an effort to avoid scrutiny, limit regulation, and buy favor," the document continues.

Warren and Bennet claim these donations "raise questions about corruption and the influence of corporate money on the Trump administration, and Congress and the public deserve answers."

The letter asks the mentioned companies to answer questions by January 31 about these contributions, including the rationale behind them and what kinds of communications were made to the Trump team.

JASON ALDEAN, KID ROCK JOIN CARRIE UNDERWOOD AT TRUMP INAUGURATION EVENTS

"Funny, they never sent me one of these for contributing to Democrats," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tweeted in response to the letter.

Altman noted that his $1 million donation to the inaugural fund was a personal contribution, and he was confused about the document's details, considering his company had no part in the decision.

In a statement to 91±¬ÁÏ Digital, an OpenAI spokesperson said, "Sam believes that President Trump will lead our country during a pivotal moment for AI and American innovation and looks forward to working with him and his administration."

TRUMP INAUGURATION GUEST LIST INCLUDES TECH TITANS MARK ZUCKERBERG, JEFF BEZOS, ELON MUSK

Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft and Uber donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund.

Apple CEO Tim Cook personally donated $1 million to the fund.

Many of these tech company leaders are expected to attend Trump's inauguration.

91±¬ÁÏ Digital has reached out to Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Uber for comments.Â

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Popular accounts on the social media platform criticized the U.S. government for taking away people's 'livelihood'

TikTok influencers are mourning the impending shutdown of the popular Chinese-owned social media platform after the Supreme Court upheld a law to ban the application if it is not sold in the United States.

A popular voice on the app, Emily Senn, broke down in tears after hearing the news and said she would "never forgive" the U.S. government for its actions against TikTok.

"I'm never going to trust you ever again because you just, like that, took away millions of people's income and livelihood and who does that?" she asked Friday morning.

BIDEN MAINTAINS HE WILL NOT ENFORCE TIKTOK BAN, PLANS TO PUNT TO TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

Senn, who lost her job as a cruise ship singer during the pandemic, said TikTok has helped support her financially and gave her a sense of community over the last three years.

Madilynn Cameron, who has amassed over 1 million followers on TikTok and signed a petition to save the platform, asked her followers to remain "calm and hopeful" that President Biden or President-elect Donald Trump would intervene.

"We are a laughingstock to other countries," she said. "Do you understand that? Everyone mocks us."

Many other popular accounts were devastated and angry about the news.

Popular social media star and content creator Kelsey Pumel released a video on Friday titled "Goodbye freedom of speech," in which she questioned the government's priorities.

READ THE SUPREME COURT RULING ON TIKTOK LAW – APP USERS, CLICK HERE

"I just still can't get over the fact that the government literally cares more about an app that hasn't proven to pose any of the threats that our country claims it does over kids literally being unalived [sic] at school, the healthcare epidemic, not being able to afford housing, the homeless population. You know, whatever. F--- this country," she said.

Podcast host and influencer Alex Pearlman appeared flustered by the Supreme Court's unanimous decision.

"Y'all can't agree that kids shouldn't be shot in school. Y'all can't agree on f---ing cops not being allowed to just f---ing kill people with impunity. But a TikTok ban? Y'all lined up and said, what's this about? The Chinese? Yo f--- them mother---ers."

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld a federal law that would ban TikTok if it is not sold just two days before the bipartisan divestiture law is slated to take effect.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

"There is no doubt that, for more than 170 million Americans, TikTok offers a distinctive and expansive outlet for expression, means of engagement, and source of community," the court wrote in the unsigned ruling. "But Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok's data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary."

"For the foregoing reasons, we conclude that the challenged provisions do not violate petitioners' First Amendment rights.
Companies prepare next generation of space stations for orbit

NASA is partnering with the commercial sector for its next orbital laboratories

NASA is working with at least three companies that are designing space stations to replace the International Space Station before it de-orbits in 2031.

"NASA can utilize those resources in our exploration of the heavens, back to the moon and on to Mars. Then we can rent space on a commercial space station to do our research, to prepare our astronauts for longer flights out into the cosmos," NASA administrator Bill Nelson said. "We've given them seed money so that they can jump start developing space stations."

The cost to the U.S. government is a factor, but Nelson believes the investment will pay off.

NASA ADMINISTRATOR SAYS 'AT LEAST A TRILLION' OTHER PLANETS LIKE EARTH COULD EXIST IN UNIVERSE

"If you don't do research, and you don't do development, R and D, then you are consuming or eating your seed corn, and you don't have what you need to plant a crop to supply whatever you want for the future. It's the R and D that has brought us to the level of the degree of sophistication that we enjoy," Nelson said.

Axiom Space is one company that is building a next generation space station. It is creating pods that would first attach to the current International Space Station. The company is sending private astronauts to the International Space Station to prepare for adding the first module, which is expected to be launched in 2026.

"Those private astronauts stay on the space station a week or two weeks and do scientific things. NASA gets involved in that when they come to the station, and they have to meet rigorous standards. They have to follow the rules with NASA, and they have to have, as their commander of their private astronaut mission, a former NASA astronaut that we approve," said Nelson.

When the International Space Station is decommissioned, Axiom Station will detach and become a self-sustaining orbital platform.

NASA PREPARES FOR INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION RETIREMENT

Blue Origin is also building a space station. Its Orbital Reef will be a mixed-use destination for researchers, entrepreneurs and tourists. Nelson expects space tourism to expand as the footprint in space grows larger.

"There have been private SpaceX Dragon spacecraft taking private individuals unrelated to NASA into space. Now, naturally, it's somebody that's very wealthy that can afford to pay for that. There have been those, and there will be many of those in the future," Nelson said.

Voyager’s Starlab will be sent into orbit as one unit.

"It will be the largest, we believe, piece of hardware launched by humanity into space," said President of International and Space Stations at Voyager Space Jeffrey Manber.

Voyager plans to launch in 2028. It will have a ready-to-go laboratory onboard that will be capable of housing more than 400 experiments each year.

"That area known as Low Earth Orbit has become commercial. There's dozens and dozens of companies, there's going to be privately owned space stations, every week there’s privately launched rockets. It's a very exciting time," Manber said.

NASA is also using private companies to help build the first lunar space station. Maxar and Northrop Grumman are designing the two modules. SpaceX will launch the Lunar Gateway Station into orbit no sooner than 2025. Operations could begin as soon as 2028.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

"As the future unfolds, as we venture out, we will send our astronauts, star sailors that will sail on a cosmic sea to far off cosmic shores," Nelson said. "That's bound to excite anybody. And I get to do it on a daily basis."

Luxury jewelry maker Cartier doesn't give stuff away, but they pretty much did for one man in Mexico

Villarreal said he gave one set of gold-and-diamond earrings to his mother

Luxury jewelry maker Cartier isn’t known for giving stuff away, but in the case of one Mexican man, they pretty much did.

Rogelio Villarreal was paging through Cartier’s web page in a moment of idleness when he came upon on offer that seemed too good to be true. "I broke out in a cold sweat," he wrote on his account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION SEIZES $90M IN COUNTERFEIT JEWELRY, CARTIER BRACELETS

Cartier apparently had made a mistake and listed gold-and-diamond earrings for 237 pesos ($14), instead of the correct price, 237,000 pesos ($14,000). Villarreal ordered two sets.

What followed was months of back and forth during which he says Cartier offered him a consolation prize instead of the jewelry, and during which Mexican officials backed his position that the company should honor the advertised price.

Villarreal finally got the earrings last week, at his price, and he posted a video online of himself unboxing the merchandise. But he soon grew tired of the public attention — finding not all that glitters is gold — and on Monday posted, "Alright already, talk about something else, I’m tired of the earrings being the only thing anyone knows about my personality."

Villarreal’s case had become a lightening rod online during an especially polarized time in Mexico ahead of its June 2 presidential elections.

Some observers criticized Villarreal for taking advantage of what they saw as an honest mistake by the top-end jewelry company. Some claimed he should give the earrings back, or pay taxes on them. Some called him a thief.

Villarreal, a doctor doing his medical residency, said he had to fight for months to get the company to actually deliver and claimed that it offered to send him a bottle of champagne instead.

The company did not respond to requests for comment.

"I have the worst luck in the world and I’ve never made any money, and what I have is because I bought it," Villarreal wrote in his social media accounts. But now, he was been able to buy two $14,000 sets of earrings for only about $28.

He says he gave one of them to his mother.

"It feels great and it’s cool not to be the underdog for once in my life," Villarreal wrote.

Jesús Montaño, the spokesman for Mexico’s consumer protection agency, known as Profeco, confirmed Villarreal’s account of his struggle.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

"He filed a complaint in December," Montaño said. "There is a conciliation hearing scheduled for May 3, but the consumer already received his purchase."

Asked about the ethics of it all, Montaño said companies "have to respect the published price." If there's a mistake, "it’s not the consumer’s fault."

Firms face financial woes, conduct layoffs due to litigation targeting DEI-based grants: Report

'I'm definitely equipped for it, but I didn't prepare for the mental and emotional toll this has taken on me and my team,' Arian Simone said.

A venture firm boss on Thursday described having to scale back her company's operations and grant programs after being pummeled by lawsuits from conservative groups.

Atlanta-based Fearless Fund CEO Arian Simone told Inc. in an interview that conservatives’ efforts to debilitate grant programs geared toward women of color are making inroads, causing her organization to fall apart.

Since the inception of the Fearless Strivers Grant Contest, Simone, with the aid of partner corporations, has been able to fund business owners $3.7 million in grants.

Simone told Inc. that ever since litigation against the Strivers grant program, several corporations have backed out with only two partners staying.

"I didn't plan for this," Simone said.Â

"I'm definitely equipped for it, but I didn't prepare for the mental and emotional toll this has taken on me and my team."

BLACK TEXAS COLLEGE STUDENT DEFENDS BLACK GRADUATION 'GIVEN THE HISTORY' OF THE US IN LIGHT OF DEI BAN

Edward Blum, the conservative strategist behind the American Alliance for Equal Rights [AAFER] hit Simone's Fearless Fund Management, LLC with a lawsuit in August 2023. The lawsuit claimed that the firm’s Fearless Strivers Grant Contest was "racially discriminatory" and violated the Civil Rights Act of 1866 for making criteria solely for Black female entrepreneurs.

According to Inc., the firm started with a team of 19 when it launched in 2019. However, litigation caused it to scale down to six.

Simone told Inc. "It all fell apart due to litigation."Â

"You're talking millions of dollars we've lost, and it's truly impacting our operations," Simone said.

In June 2023, Fearless Fund touted a multi-million dollar investment into their grant program from major corporations like Bank of America, Costco, and Mastercard.

The companies invested in Fearless’ initiative to help "Women of Color" businesses receive Venture Capital funding, an effort that helps solve the issues "Women of Color businesses face while acquiring funding for their businesses."

"By receiving multi-million dollar follow-on investments from Bank of America, Costco, and Mastercard, Fearless Fund is doing the necessary work to advocate, financially support, and provide resources for Women of Color both in their portfolio and the emerging talent that is still to come," the Fund said in a statement from June of 2023.

AAFER filed the lawsuit two months after the Fund received the multi-million dollar investments, writing in a statement that AAFER members were "being excluded from participating in the program because they are the wrong race."

DEI TRAINING SUSPENDED AFTER TELLING FIREFIGHTERS THAT WHITE STAFF HAVE CAUSED 'RACIAL HARM': REPORT

"Under the terms of the grant program, official eligibility for the contest depends on an applicant’s race with only black females being eligible to participate in the process. The submission of an entry forms ‘a contract’ between Fearless Fund and the applicant," AEER said in a statement.

Simone on January 31st requested in a U.S. federal court of appeals to lift an injunction against its Fearless Strivers Grant Contest after they were blocked from awarding $10,000 to $20,000 and additional development services to startups led by Black-female-owned businesses.

Not only has the grant program struggled, but the litigation has taken a toll on the firm as well, losing eight figures of investments as a result.

A federal appeals court in Miami conducted a hearing in Miami on January 31st to decide whether her request for an injunction on the grant program would be lifted.

Simone said at a news conference after the hearing that the venture firm has not been able to raise money to continue its investments due to the litigation.

"When people hear lawsuits, sometimes the spirit of fear has gotten to them. So yes, we have been financially impacted due to this lawsuit. We were looking for upwards about eight figures of investments that fell through this past fall," Simone said at a news conference following the hearing in January.

Another venture capital firm described needing to scale back operations and even lay off employees after a lawsuit targeting its grant program for black-owned small trucking companies.

Elizabeth Gore, the co-founder of Hello Alice, an online platform for business owners, discussed facing hardships due to America First Legal's litigation aimed at its grant program.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPÂ

Gore said that the company was forced to lay off 69 percent of its workforce.Â

"It still breaks my heart, actually,"Â Gore told Inc.

She went on to say, "It happened right before the holidays in December, and we had to lay off people who have been with us for years."

On this day in history, February 19, 1912, Cracker Jack's 'prize in every box' debuts

Company would eventually distribute more than 17 billion prizes

Cracker Jack started its "prize in every box" promotion on this day in history, Feb. 19, 1912.

German immigrant F.W. Rueckheim first invented the now-ubiquitous ballpark treat in the late 19th century.Â

It was initially sold at his small candy and popcorn shop, F. W. Rueckheim & Bro., says the website SnackHistory.com.Â

The caramel-coated popcorn made its official debut at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, notes the website. Â

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, FEBRUARY 18, 1931, AMERICAN AUTHOR TONI MORRISON IS BORN IN OHIO

Three years after that, Rueckheim began to market the snack as "Cracker Jack," the Encyclopedia of Chicago pointed out.Â

It would take nearly a decade before another innovation would further boost the product's popularity.Â

By 1912, F. W. Rueckheim & Bro. employed some 700 people at its Chicago factory, notes the Encyclopedia of Chicago.Â

It was on Feb. 19 of that year that someone came up with the idea to put a small "prize" in each box as a promotion — and sales boomed.Â

Previously, prizes or coupons were only included in random boxes, said the Cracker Jack appreciation website known as The Art is Cracker Jack.Â

NATIONAL JUNK FOOD DAY 2022: SEE WHICH SNACK CAME OUT THE DECADE YOU WERE BORNÂ

The "prize in every box" strategy worked.

Cracker Jack has given away about 17 billion toys in over a century, said The Art is Cracker Jack site.Â

"Cracker Jack wasn't the first company to use free premiums to promote its product. As its longevity has proven, it just did it better," said the site.Â

Ten years after the debut of "prize in every box" promotion, the company's name was officially changed to "The Cracker Jack Co." Â

The first prizes in Cracker Jack boxes were largely made of paper, metal or wood — and were mixed in with the food product, The Art is Cracker Jack website says.Â

"It wasn't until decades later in 1948 that Cracker Jack began distributing prizes wrapped waxed paper," said the site.Â

In an appeal to collectors — and to boost sales — Cracker Jack "wisely started issuing certain prizes in a set or series," according to The Art is Cracker Jack.

"The Cracker Jack slogan may have been ‘The more you eat, the more you want,’ but for Cracker Jack prize hoarders the slogan may as well have been ‘The more you collect, the more you want to collect,'" said the website.Â

In 1946, Cracker Jack began distributing plastic prizes in its boxes, thanks in part to "Innovations in the injection molded plastic process," said The Art is Cracker Jack.Â

WHAT CAN I USE NUTELLA WITH? SOME RECIPES FOR THE CHOCATELY TREAT

These innovations "enabled the mass production of inexpensive items, opening a new era for the Cracker Jack prize."

The Cracker Jack Co. was sold to Borden Inc. in 1964.Â

Then, in 1997, Frito-Lay Inc. purchased Cracker Jack.Â

Nineteen years later, the "prize" inside a Cracker Jack box or bag was replaced by an app, "ending an era," says The Art is Cracker Jack.Â

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Today, purchasers of Cracker Jack will find a sticker granting them access to the online "Prize Inside Arcade" on the Cracker Jack website.Â

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER

The "arcade" features classic games, including a version of Connect Four.Â

For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle.

They included what appeared to be a veiled dig at Bud Light, which she accused in June of declining to support her when she received backlash for the marketing partnership that began last April.

Speaking to Seth Matlins, managing director of the Forbes CMO Network, Mulvaney cited her own experience of being the brunt of "hate and vitriol" after the Bud Light partnership to call companies to take their relationships with progressive activists and diverse employees more seriously.Â

"If you’re going to ask us to capitalize on our vulnerabilities and our traumas, at least have our backs when the going gets tough," Mulvaney declared at the summit.

Advising the marketing executives and business leaders at the event on how to foster that commitment, Mulvaney said that companies must build a "connection between the partner and the brand."Â

Forbes’ coverage of its event noted how Mulvaney argued that companies should not just hire diverse or progressive spokespeople for marketing campaigns, but "push for diversity in the boardroom and on their consulting staff."

The transgender TikTok star proclaimed, "If you’re not sitting on the table, you’re on the menu."

BUD LIGHT TO SPEND ‘HEAVILY’ ON MARKETING AFTER DYLAN MULVANEY CONTROVERSY: REPORT

She also urged companies who do hire trans people to not give in when backlash ensues: "Supporting and hiring trans people should not be political, and the people making it out to be— they’re bigots. And we should not let them win."

Also during the summit, Mulvaney gave her thoughts on what a more inclusive Bud Light campaign would look like. Forbes reported that she described "her own idea for a commercial set in a western saloon."Â

"She said she envisions a trans woman on the opposite side of the saloon as a famous cowboy walks in, and the camera zooms in as their respective high heels and cowboy boots walk toward one another. As the camera pans out, they crack a beer together with the line ‘There’s room for all of us beer drinkers in this town,’" the outlet wrote.

In June, Mulvaney accused Bud Light of refusing to support her while she received criticism and ridicule following boycott of the beer brand.Â

In a social media video shared that month, she said, "For a company to hire a trans person and then not publicly stand by them is worse in my opinion than not hiring a trans person at all, because it gives customers permission to be as transphobic and hateful as they want."

Mulvaney's team did not immediately respond to 91±¬ÁÏ Digital's request for comment.Â

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

For more Culture, Media, Education, Opinion, and channel coverage, visit foxnews.com/media.

Don't fall for this Instagram art scam

The Picasso of scams hits popular social media platform

Picture this: You're sipping your morning coffee, nestled in your favorite chair, scrolling through Instagram. It's the usual spread — cat videos, foodies showcasing their avocado toast, and your friend's 100th vacation pic. Â

Among these regulars is a picture you posted yesterday. It's nothing extravagant, just a candid shot of the city park during sunset or maybe a quirky selfie you took with that vintage hat you found. Â

Then – ding! A message. An account with an artistic name featuring ethereal murals and vibrant canvases has DM'd you. They praise your photo and claim it's perfect for their next project. Even better, they're willing to pay for it. Your eyebrows raise. Your mind races. Money for that random pic? In an era where influencers reign supreme, could this be your golden ticket? Â

CLICK TO GET KURT’S FREE CYBERGUY NEWSLETTER WITH SECURITY ALERTS, QUICK TIPS, TECH REVIEWS AND EASY HOW-TO’S TO MAKE YOU SMARTERÂ

The bait and sketchÂ

Here's the twist: After discussing payment methods, the "artist" explains some past issues with international transactions. They ask for a "few minor details" to ensure a smooth process - primarily, your full name, the primary email linked to your bank, and your bank's name.

This may sound benign. However, with these details, scammers can potentially initiate phishing attacks, spam emails, or even fraudulent requests that could put your finances at risk. While they might not directly access your funds, they could utilize this information to try and trick you further or deceive others.Â

5 WAYS TO REMOVE CREEPY CLICKBAIT ADS FROM YOUR INSTAGRAM FEEDÂ

Moreover, banks typically have security protocols, including 2FA, to protect account holders. But remember, many scams hinge on manipulating individuals to bypass these securities willingly.Â

A scammer might not drain your account with just your email and bank name, but they're making a start. And no, typically usernames and passwords aren't provided at this stage, but once trust is established, who knows what a victim might reveal?Â

The mirage of deceptionÂ

Some of these self-proclaimed art aficionados even send over checks that momentarily sparkle with legitimacy. They clear, and you might feel like you've just walked into a Monet sunrise. However, those checks bounce back quicker than a snap of Mona Lisa's elusive smile. Â

You're left stunned, perhaps thinking, "Was that check even real, or just another mirage in this desert of deception?" If you dare to pause or display a hint of skepticism, these scammers pivot, nudging you to wire funds via Venmo or CashApp - this should be a major red flag. Â

How to defend your digital canvas: steps to stay safeÂ

Trust, but verify: Before getting swept up in the excitement of the offer, quickly search for the person or entity reaching out. Real artists or organizations usually have a digital footprint beyond an Instagram account.Â

Keep it close: Never, and I mean never, give out personal banking or identity details through DMs. If an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is.Â

Consult the experts: If you're ever considering going into a transaction, consult with someone knowledgeable. A simple review from a trusted friend or family member can save you from a scam.Â

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CYBERCRIMINAL GETS ACCESS TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS? Â

Report and block: If you suspect a scam, report the account to Instagram and block them. It's a digital world equivalent of showing them the exit door.Â

How to block someone on InstagramÂ

Go to the Profile: Click on the suspicious user's name to view their profileÂ

Tap the Three Dots: Located on the top right corner of the profile pageÂ

Choose 'Block': You'll see a list of options pop up. Click on 'Block' and then confirm. This will prevent the user from viewing your profile or contacting youÂ

Oops, I fell for it! Now what?

Contact your bank: Inform them of the suspicious activity, and they can guide you on the following steps to protect your accountÂ

Change your passwords: Update passwords for accounts linked to the provided information. Make them complex and unique. Think about using a password manager to help you out. Check out my best expert-reviewed password managers of 2023 by heading to Cyberguy.com/PasswordsÂ

Activate two-factor authentication (2FA): It's an extra layer of security that will stop hackers from accessing your accounts, even if they crack your password.Â

Monitor your accounts: Keep an eye on your banking and online accounts for any unusual activityÂ

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS ON INSTAGRAMÂ

Report the scam: Contact local authorities and also inform Instagram. Your report might just save someone else from the scamÂ

Use identity theft protection: In light of the potential risks associated with the Instagram art scam, it is important to consider taking steps to protect yourself from identity theft. Theft protection companies can monitor personal information like your home title, Social Security Number (SSN), phone number, and email address and alert you if it is being sold on the dark web or being used to open an account.  They can also assist you in freezing your bank and credit card accounts to prevent further unauthorized use by criminals. See my tips and best picks on how to protect yourself from identity theft by heading to Cyberguy.com/IdentityTheft.

How to report the scam

Head to their profile: Click on the username of the suspicious account.Â

Tap the Three Dots: These are in the top right corner.Â

Choose 'Report': A menu will appear. Select the 'Report' option.Â

Follow the prompts: Instagram will guide you through a few questions to understand the reason. For scams, you'd typically select 'It's spam' or the option that best describes the suspicious activity you've encountered.Â

DON’T FALL FOR THIS SNEAKY NOTIFICATION THAT’S FOOLING PEOPLE ON FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAMÂ

Kurt's key takeaways

In the grand art gallery of Instagram, where every Joe, Jane, and their parakeet become overnight Monets, there's a new kind of "artist" on the prowl. No, they're not wielding paintbrushes, but rather, a palette of scams that could make even the Mona Lisa frown. Â

So, we've laid out a fancy tapestry of tips to keep those artful dodgers at bay. From the "trust but verify" waltz to the "block and report" tango, it's a dance of digital self-defense. Â

But here's the kicker: In a world where a cat playing the piano can be art, how do you keep your digital masterpiece (and your wallet) safe from these artful bamboozlers? Â

What's your brushstroke of genius when navigating these murky waters?
200 LGBTQ groups demand Target restock Pride merch, release statement now: 'No such thing as neutrality'

Target market cap down over $13 billion amid Pride backlash

More than 200 LGBTQ groups angered by Target's decision to pull Pride merchandise from shelves are demanding the company "denounce extremists" and restock all the Pride merchandise in stores and online.

The Human Rights Campaign, along with GLAAD, GLSEN and other groups, released a statement asking Target and other businesses like Anheuser-Busch to "reject and speak out against anti-LGBTQ+ extremism going into Pride Month." More than 200 other progressive and LGBTQ organizations signed on to the statement, which argued that showing support for their community was good for business.

The organizations laid out a three-part demand that calls on Target to restock all the Pride merchandise both in stores and online, ensure the safety of Target employees and release a statement "reaffirming their commitment to the LGBTQ+ community" within 24 hours.

"When it comes to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, there is no such thing as neutrality," the LGTBQ coalition said.

‘SATANIST’ DESIGNER SAYS TARGET SET ‘DANGEROUS PRECEDENT’ BY PULLING PRODUCTS

The coalition suggested they would continue to support Target and other businesses who rejected criticism from consumers.

"Target, and all businesses, can leverage the support of LGBTQ+ organizations to navigate this hate, so that together, we can let extremists know unequivocally that, just as with every other failed anti-LGBTQ+ campaign of the past, fear will not win," the statement reads.

Target displays LGBTQ-themed apparel annually leading into June. However, the retail giant came under increased scrutiny after consumers noticed stores selling "tuck-friendly" women's bathing suits for transgender people and Pride apparel for children and infants.

The company responded to widespread backlash over the Pride merchandise by moving some Pride products to less prominent sections of the store and removing other merchandise altogether. Target said it moved the products to ensure employees' safety.

FORMER TARGET EXEC REVEALS THE ‘ONE ITEM’ THAT SPARKED CONSUMER FIRESTORM

The move angered progressives and LGBTQ groups who said Target had "caved to violent political extremists" and "betrayed" LGTBQ customers.

Several of the designers who partnered with the company spoke to the media about their disappointment in the company not standing by their products when faced with backlash.

"It's a very dangerous precedent to set, that if people just get riled up enough about the products that you're selling, you can completely distance yourself from the LGBT community, when and if it's convenient," Abprallen designer Erik Carnell told Reuters.Â

Another designer for the Pride collection said Target had removed most of their collection from stores "due to threats from domestic terrorists."

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Target has only released one public statement on the controversy so far.

"For more than a decade, Target has offered an assortment of products aimed at celebrating Pride Month. Since introducing this year's collection, we've experienced threats impacting our team members'Â sense of safety and well-being while at work. Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior. Our focus now is on moving forward with our continuing commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community and standing with them as we celebrate Pride Month and throughout the year," the company said in a release on May 24.

That same day, Target CEO Brian Cornell defended the company's decision in a letter to employees while expressing support for the LGBTQ community.

Target did not respond to 91±¬ÁÏ Digital's request for comment.

91±¬ÁÏ' Brian Flood contributed to this report.

Semaglutides like Ozempic and Wegovy could increase risk of miscarriage, birth defects among pregnant women — company weighs in

Ozempic and Wegovy share the common side effects of nausea and appetite loss, but there is one lesser-known risk factor that isn’t mentioned nearly as often.

The two semaglutide-containing medications — Ozempic for type 2 diabetes control and Wegovy for weight loss — could also pose a serious risk to unborn babies.

Animal studies have shown that when pregnant rabbits, rats and monkeys were given semaglutide, they experienced higher rates of miscarriage, birth defects and small fetal size — information that’s included in the drug labels for both medications, which are made by Novo Nordisk in New Jersey.

WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATIONS OZEMPIC AND WEGOVY: WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU STOP TAKING THEM

Ozempic is still wildly popular, with more than four million active prescriptions, per the manufacturer’s website. While it’s marketed as a diabetes-controlling medication, it’s also well-known for its frequent off-label use as a weight loss aid.

There has also been increasing demand for its weight loss counterpart, Wegovy — so much that Novo Nordisk announced earlier this month it will be limiting the availability of some starter doses.

Semaglutides are in a group of medications called glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs).Â

They work by imitating the behavior of the GLP-1 hormone, which is released in the gut after eating and triggers the body to produce insulin.

Doctors issue caution during pregnancy

Dr. Rekha Kumar, chief medical officer at the medically supported weight care program Found and a practicing endocrinologist in New York City, advises her patients to stop taking semaglutide-containing medications in the months leading up to pregnancy.

"Given the fact that these medicines have not been studied in pregnancy, I would recommend stopping the long-acting ones like Ozempic and Wegovy two to three months before," she told 91±¬ÁÏ Digital in an interview.

OZEMPIC, WEGOVY AND ALL THOSE CRAZY, VIVID DREAMS: IS THERE A CONNECTION?

Whenever she prescribes FDA-approved medicine for weight loss, Kumar said she always has a conversation with patients about whether they’re trying to get pregnant or if they’re on contraception.

"And if we're prescribing any medicine that could be contraindicated, we let them know," she said.

In cases where diabetes or weight management is critical to the health of patients, Kumar sometimes switches them to a shorter-acting daily medication, such as phentermine for weight loss or metformin for diabetes, which can be taken up until a month before pregnancy.Â

There’s a marked difference between patients who are using Ozempic for diabetes versus those using Wegovy for weight loss, the doctor pointed out.

That’s because weight loss is not advised while someone is pregnant.

"If you look at the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s weight gain guidelines, nobody is recommended to lose weight during pregnancy," Kumar told 91±¬ÁÏ Digital. "The amount of weight you're recommended to gain is based on your pre-pregnancy BMI."

MATERNAL DEATH RATE IS ON THE RISE IN THE US, THE CDC REPORTS

Even for women who are overweight or have obesity, the most strict recommendation would be to not gain any weight, the doctor said.

It’s a different story for patients who have diabetes.

"The assumption is that they're on a medicine that's critical for managing a disease," Kumar explained. "In that case, I’ll switch them to insulin during pregnancy."

Dr. Sue Decotiis, a weight loss physician in New York City who specializes in Ozempic, Mounjaro and other weight loss medications, also said she recommends that her patients stop taking these drugs if they become pregnant.

"We really don't know what the risks are because they haven’t done any real studies, and I don't believe that we're going to see hideous long-term side effects — but then again, who wants to take the chance?" she said in a conversation with 91±¬ÁÏ Digital.

In another twist, semaglutide medications can actually help women get to a point where they are able to conceive when they originally didn’t think they’d be able to, said Decotiis.

"We know that insulin resistance is a leading cause of infertility," she said.

"A lot of people have reported that they were insulin-resistant and overweight, and that their periods were very irregular."

"Thus, when we correct the insulin resistance with these medications, people start getting regular periods and start getting pregnant," she went on. "So that's one added benefit of the drug."

Many of Kumar’s patients have a long-term plan to take the medicine, lose a desired amount of weight and then try to get pregnant.

GETTING PREGNANT SOON AFTER ABORTION OR MISCARRIAGE MIGHT HAVE LOWER RISKS THAN PREVIOUSLY SUSPECTED: STUDY

If a woman on a semaglutide medication finds out she's pregnant, Kumar said she can stop taking it right away — but in a best-case scenario, she recommends tapering off.

"This would allow the woman to monitor the compensatory hunger that comes back after stopping and implement other interventions and lifestyle changes, such as increasing dietary protein," she said.

FDA calls for investigation

Based on reports from women who have experienced miscarriage or other pregnancy issues while taking these medications, the FDA is now requiring Novo Nordisk to conduct an investigation.Â

The company will have to keep a registry of any reported issues after exposure during pregnancy, including "major and minor congenital malformations, spontaneous abortions, stillbirths, elective terminations, small for gestational age, preterm birth and any other adverse pregnancy outcomes," according to the FDA’s letter.

On Reddit, one user shared that about 10 months ago she became pregnant while on Ozempic.

"This was quite a shock to me because we tried for three years to conceive naturally and had to go the gauntlet of IVF to have a baby," she wrote.Â

"I delivered my son last September, quit breastfeeding in December and started Ozempic, conceived on March 22 (without knowing) and miscarried on April 26. What a shock this was to my entire family."

RSV VACCINE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN INCHES CLOSER TO APPROVAL WITH FDA COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION

Five months ago, another user shared that she got pregnant while taking the medication. The baby stopped growing at 5 weeks — the woman miscarried at 8 weeks.

Not all experiences ended badly, however.Â

Other women shared that they experienced healthy pregnancies even after being on a semaglutide medication before finding out they had conceived.

Drugmaker echoes warning

When conducting its trials of semaglutide medications, Novo Nordisk excluded women who were pregnant or intended to become pregnant, the company said in a statement to 91±¬ÁÏ Digital.

"There are therefore limited clinical trial data with semaglutide use in pregnant women," the statement continued.Â

"However, information related to pregnancy appears in Section 8.1 and 8.3 of the prescribing information for both Ozempic and Wegovy."

That information includes the following warning: "Based on animal reproduction studies, there may be potential risks to the fetus from exposure to semaglutide during pregnancy, [Ozempic and Wegovy] should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus."

Said the company, "Pregnant women exposed to [Ozempic and Wegovy] and health care providers are encouraged to contact Novo Nordisk at 1-800-727-6500."

Novo Nordisk also pointed out that while Wegovy and Ozempic both contain semaglutide, they are different products with different indications, dosages, prescribing information, titration schedules and delivery devices.Â

"The products are not interchangeable and should not be used outside of their approved indications," the statement said.

Ozempic is FDA-approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, to improve blood sugar, along with diet and exercise, and reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke or death in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease, according to the company.

'PREGNANCY NOSE’ HAS EXPECTANT MOMS GOING VIRAL ON TIKTOK AS MEDICAL EXPERTS EXPLAIN THE BAFFLING CONDITION

Wegovy is FDA-approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI > 30) or overweight (BMI > 27) who also have weight-related medical problems, used with a reduced-calorie meal plan and increased physical activity, Novo Nordisk said.

End goal: A healthier pregnancy

While semaglutides carry potential risks during pregnancy, Kumar emphasized that when prescribed properly to a woman who is struggling with her metabolic health, these medications could help enable a healthier pregnancy.Â

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER

"If somebody is using contraception and they're under the care of an OB-GYN and an endocrinologist and they’re at risk of gestational diabetes, taking this medicine for a period of time might actually allow them to get pregnant more easily and lower their risk of gestational diabetes," she explained.Â

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

"So when used appropriately in women that desire fertility, there is an appropriate way to do it."

'Special Report' Spotlight: Private companies increasing footprint in space

Defense Intelligence Agency officials welcome assistance from private companies in helping defend space assets

Adversaries like Russia and China are increasing their assets in space. As the U.S. looks to counter these threats, it’s turning to the private sector for assistance.

"Right now, we have a lot of private investment, private equity going into the space industry," Astroscale's Ron Lopez said. "Small companies with a lot of innovative technologies that are growing quickly, innovating and delivering capability to the market very differently than the slow, methodical process led by government contracting regulations."

An increasing amount of federal funding is helping develop the projects but many start-ups are using private resources as well.

"In the end, the U.S. taxpayer wins because we have better capability being brought to the market by entrepreneurs," Lopez said.

TOP REPUBLICAN INVESTIGATES ‘POLITICALLY MOTIVATED’ DELAY IN PICKING SPACE COMMAND HQ

With every new rocket launch, space is becoming more crowded. Astroscale is working on a device that would clean up space junk. It is designed to latch onto defunct satellites and drag them toward earth’s atmosphere for disposal.

"Our focus is on the larger pieces of debris and taking care of them responsibly before they break up or collide with something else and become smaller pieces of debris that it's much harder to remediate," Lopez said.

According to a report on security in space by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the probability of a collision between objects in space, is on the rise.

"A lot of it are active spacecraft, a lot of it hard dead, long defunct spacecraft. A lot of it is debris, which is not maneuverable," said Defense Intelligence Agency Office of Space and Counterspace Chief John Huth. "A lot of it is what we call lethal, non-trackable pieces of junk, things between 2 to 4 inches in size that we simply cannot track yet. They're going 17,500 miles an hour. And there are many other dead objects, the size of automobiles or larger, also going 17,500 miles an hour."

Astroscale’s latest project is cleaning up the area around the Hubble Telescope. The developers are partnering with Momentus, a company that focuses on in-space infrastructure services including space transportation. They plan to relocate the Hubble and remove any debris within the telescope’s orbit.

"It's really aimed at boosting the orbit of Hubble, the underlying technology that allows us to go up and remediate the debris problem, bringing down those large satellites and rocket bodies, is the same core technology that allows us to dock with an object and take it to a different orbit," Lopez said.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, APRIL 25, 1990, HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE PLACED IN ORBIT BY SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY

Experts and private companies agree that leaving U.S. space assets unprotected, poses a national security issue. Space debris is also making it harder to send new satellites into orbit and is creating fewer launch windows.

"It's all about freedom of access and freedom of action. We have to understand what's going on in the space domain," Lopez said. "Debris also poses a threat to our ability to understand what's going on in the space domain. The more things you have to track, the harder it becomes. We want to make sure that decision makers have the best, most accurate picture possible so that they can make informed decisions and defuse any tensions."

Intelligence officials are also concerned about protecting crucial U.S. satellites. China and Russia have conducted anti-satellite tests. The Defense Intelligence Agency says those tests were practice targets to help them one day attack working satellites.

"Those were tests that show their intent as they're developing these anti-satellite missiles to disrupt or destroy U.S. capabilities, especially during a time of conflict," Defense Intelligence Officer for Space and Counterspace Kevin Ryder said.

True Anomaly is a private company working on technology to defend against anti-satellite attacks. Its Jackal Autonomous Orbital Vehicle can maneuver in space and track down aggressors.

OLD NASA SATELLITE TUMBLES TO EARTH OVER SAHARA DESERT, AGENCY SAYS

"The spacecraft is really designed to deal with the threats that are on orbit," True Anomaly CEO Even Rogers said. "One of the things that the Russian and Ukrainian conflict has made has made very clear is that state actors are incentivized to target commercial satellites on orbit. It begs the question, should commercial operators think about defending themselves if the United States Space Force and others and their allies can't come to their rescue."

Rogers hopes the Jackal will help defend peaceful space operations. True Anomaly is working with the Defense Department to launch the device into orbit later this year.

"The Jackal spacecraft fills some really important gaps in space domain awareness and surveillance," Rogers said. "As adversaries have become more and more cognizant of U.S. capabilities and intentions in the space domain, they've designed systems that are hard to track and hard to take pictures of. The Jackal Autonomous Vehicle is designed to shore up some of those surveillance capabilities."

The Jackal can also conduct surveillance and take images of bad actors. It is designed to better hold adversaries accountable for efforts to disrupt peaceful space.

WUHAN UNIVERSITY RULE-BREAKING WITH AI-CONTROLLED SATELLITE EXPERIMENTS: EXPERTS

"Before we can make investments in really defending ourselves in the domain, we want to avoid mistakes of miscalculation and so to do that, we have to collect information on what adversaries are doing, what they intend to do and their future plans," Rogers said.

Intelligence officials welcome assistance from private companies in helping defend space assets. But as the U.S. expands its footprint in orbit, adversaries are doing the same.

"I think there has been a resurgence. Those things that we do to explore space, to understand space better, to leverage the environment in a positive way are all for the good. It's the part that we get to focus on day to day that's the not so good that that concern us," Huth said. "China has a policy called a civil military fusion, where they tried to leverage a lot of what they do on the civil side for military purposes. So we and the rest of our partners in the intelligence community just need to be conscious and keep our eyes on the fact that they may at some point decide to take some of those activities from a scientific realm to another realm where we'd be more concerned about."

Both Rogers and Lopez served in the military before launching their startups.Â

"It's a completely different dynamic than it was 30 years ago when I was in uniform," Lopez said. "It’s a very exciting time to be in the space industry, to be on the front end of what I think is going to be some pretty incredible growth."

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Rogers agrees that it’s an exciting time for the space industry. He also says the U.S. still faces significant challenges and increasing resources is critical.

"The Space Force faces this unprecedented moment in the history of many military services, which is they have to be perfect on their first test. They have to ace their first test, but they've only just started studying," Rogers said. "They have to move quickly to address the threats to shore up vulnerabilities. The threat that they'll be called to defeat is a serious and significant threat that will require really advanced training, advanced capabilities and surveillance capabilities."

Adidas swimsuit ad draws backlash for 'erasing women': 'This seems coordinated'

'Outnumbered' reacts after Adidas sparks controversy with swimsuit ad

"Outnumbered" co-host Kayleigh McEnany expressed concern Thursday over "the speed at which" companies are going "woke." She reacted to a new Adidas ad that used a male model to showcase a women's swimsuit.

RILEY GAINES, NANCY MACE AND OTHERS RIP ADIDAS OVER WOMEN'S BATHING SUIT MODEL

KAYLEIGH MCENANY: Riley Gaines is saying you're erasing women and that is what is happening. Women are being erased from pop culture, from society, from commercials. But what's striking to me is the speed at which it's happening and the rate at which it is happening. … Bud Light, Adidas, every day we're talking about a new company. College sports, elementary school classrooms, our government. And I want to know why it's all of a sudden happening. I'm just going to pose a question: is there some central, nonprofit somewhere that's coordinating this? Like we saw with climate change? Washington Examiner, that explosive report of all these little organizations being funded by one big one? Because this seems coordinated. I'm sorry, I wish a reporter would do some digging on that.Â

Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swim star who has turned into an activist to keep women’s sports fair and equal, and Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., were among those Wednesday who took issue with the model advertising a woman’s Adidas swimsuit as part of the company’s pride collection.

Adidas collaborated with South African designer Rich Mnisi to release the "Let Love Be Your Legacy" collection and campaign. The company attempts to "encourage allyship and freedom of expression without bias, in all spaces of sport and culture" with its campaign with Mnisi.

"In creating this collection, I had a strong impulse to speak to my inner-child and express to the world how LGBTQ+ allyship can create a legacy of love," Mnisi said in an Adidas news release. "Unifying these themes together through my own visual language and Adidas’ iconic performance and lifestyle pieces is a powerful combination, making the collection a symbol for self-acceptance and LGBTQ+ advocacy. My hope is this range inspires LGBTQ+ allies to speak up more for the queer people they love and not let them fight for acceptance alone."

One of the models who is seen on the Adidas website in the woman’s bathing suit drew the attention of social media Wednesday.

Adidas said in its news release it partnered with Athlete Ally, "which focuses on ending homophobia and transphobia in sport."

"Together with Adidas our goal is to drive inclusivity in sport– supporting student athletes from the LGBTQI+ and their allies to push for fair access and safe participation in sport. Through our partnership, we’ve created more affirming athletic spaces to celebrate the community across sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions," Athlete Ally founder Hudson Taylor said.Â

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

91±¬ÁÏ Digital's Ryan Gaydos contributed to this report.Â

'Coal miner town situation': Elon Musk's reported plan to build 'utopia' worker town fires up locals

Locals react to Elon Musk's reported plan to construct a utopian Texas town for Boring, SpaceX staff

Central Texas residents who spoke with 91±¬ÁÏ criticized Elon Musk's reported plans to build a utopia-like town that would provide housing for his Austin-area employees, with two saying it reminded them of ill-fated mining communities.Â

"That sounds scary, like old mining towns," Roxanne, who moved to Bastrop County four years ago, told 91±¬ÁÏ.

VIDEO: TEXANS SOUND OFF ON ELON MUSK'S REPORTED PLAN FOR ‘UTOPIA’ WORKER TOWN

WATCH MORE FOX NEWS DIGITAL ORIGINALS HEREÂ

Tasha, also of Bastrop County, agreed.

"We're turning the clocks back and doing like coal miner town situation," the mother told 91±¬ÁÏ.

Musk reportedly plans to construct his own town in Bastrop County near two of his companies facilities, SpaceX and the Boring Company, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month, citing land records and people familiar with the plan. Musk has reportedly described his vision for the future town, called Snailbrook, as a type of Texas utopia in which his staff could live and work, according to the Journal.Â

Michelle, who moved to the Bastrop area last year, was skeptical.

"Utopia sounds very scary," she told 91±¬ÁÏ. "If you … read the books, the utopia is not usually at all what it's presented to be."Â

ELON MUSK BRINGING TWITTER TO TEXAS? WHAT'S NEXT AS BILLIONAIRE DISSOLVES BOARD

The town will reportedly include a residential site that's already been established next to an under-construction Boring Company facility. A flag spotted Tuesday at the site, which will include modular homes and recreational spaces, read "welcome, snailbrook, tx, est. 2021."Â

The community will reportedly also welcome Tesla workers, headquartered in nearby Austin, in the hopes of offering them newly constructed homes at below-market rents.

"I hope that the people who live in those houses and in that community do not get stuck in the trap of the things that you saw in those types of planned communities for business," Tasha told 91±¬ÁÏ. "Basically, they become your indentured servants because they have no way to have the mobility out of it."

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Erin, who runs a farm overlooking the SpaceX facility that's under construction, said she felt Musk was "destroying" the surrounding pristine countryside to build his ambitious new town.

"Here he is saying that there's gonna be a utopia down the street," she told 91±¬ÁÏ. "Well, there already is one."Â

None of Musk's companies returned a request for comment.

To hear more locals sound off on Musk's reported plan to build a Texas utopia, click here.
